Dokuz: President Gul, despite currently still being constitutionally required to do so, has refused to appoint a Prime Minister, instead appointing all ministers in the Council and leaving the Prime Minister's office vacant. The move by the president seems to directly contradict the constitution, which is still organized in a semi-presidential manner. While a proposition to turn Jakania into a full presidential system is currently being debated by the Assembly it has yet to pass, making the act by the President unconstitutional. Oppossition members have strictly condemned the move, suggesting it is a way for President Gul "to force through his reforms by leaving the executive without a proper head of government."

President Gul has stated that he isnt refusing to appoint a Prime Minister, but instead has decided to postpone such appointment to allow "a pressure free debate on constitutional reform in the Assembly." The Supreme Court has rejected a official request by oppossition figures to open a case against the President's move, saying in their response that "there is no time indication in which a president should appoint a Prime Minister. Unless the President assumes the powers of the Premiership unconstitutionally, there is no basis for a case."

The Council of Ministers has now formally been seated, officially without a head to direct them, but unofficially communications appear to run through the Jakanian Democracy party channels, with all ministers coming from the new ruling party. This indirectly hands the president control over the council of ministers, despite his repeated denial of this being the case.

ISD Wins Majority in the Parliament
17 May 5475

The early results of the unexpected snap elections are in: Progressive Socialist Changes (ISD) is poised to win a majority in the Assembly of the Republic, followed by New Perseverance Party (YSP) and by a bigger margin, People's Platform. ISD's presidential candidate, Ahmet Şahin, also enjoys a comfortable margin against YSP's Zeynel Doruk and is projected to win the presidency.

Unlike its predecessor, centre-right YSP seems to underperform the expections; while another successor to a former major party, leftist ISD, is dominating the current politics. Time will tell if the shift from political right to left will sustain among the populace, which traditionally favours the conservatives. Kutay Ilias Bayram, chairman of the YSP, will need to take lessons from the results. On the other hand, ISD's Melisa Yüksel, to-be Prime Minister, is but certain to try to preserve and possibly improve the initial success.

Socialists secure a victory to transform Jakania
18 May 5475

After the ruling Justice Party was dissolved, President Kenan Demirel called a snap election two years earlier, to elect a new Assembly of the Republic. For the first time in over a century, Jakanians went to the polls with more than one choice to vote for. Socialist Progressive Socialist Changes (İSD), a self-proclaimed successor to the historic left-wing forces of Jakania, such as the Labour and Equality Society and the United Left, liberal-conservative New Perseverance Party (YSP), a successor to the former ruling Perseverance Party, and the green-liberal People's Platform - Green and Moderate as a third force between the two major families.

In a surprise result, the socialists prevailed, winning over 50% of the popular vote and 317 seats in the 600-seat Assembly of the Republic, opening the doors for the first left-wing government in over a century. Prime Minister-elect Melisa Yüksel has pointed out the need for peace in Terra and Majatra, and a rethinking of the global forces' power to prevent another major wars that affect all Terrans. "We shouldn't be prisoners of some foreign countries' failed foreign policy and simple miscommunication, and there should never be countries that all others depend on, this is what's wrong with the system established, and we need to change it". Additionally, Yüksel has called for constitutional amendments to return Jakania to a former parliamentary republic system and more direct democracy mechanism, such as national and local referendums on "various questions affecting the daily lives of Jakanian citizens".

Parallel to the legislative elections, Jakanians elected a new president. İSD former co-founder and party-backed candidate Ahmet Şahin was elected in the first round with 58% of the vote. In his victory speech, Şahin confirmed his support for the parliamentary constitutional amendments, which would restrict presidential powers majorly and implement indirect elections. When asked about the contradiction of İSD's party ideology of expanding citizens' democracy and participation in making decisions, Şahin said that the indirect elections of the president don't affect or disengage citizens from making an impact on the choice, but rather "pressure parties to follow the popular choice and choose the impartial independent candidates, who will execute the little, yet important powers, given by the constitution".

Bayram Pledges Support for Constitutional Amendments
27 May 5475

Speaking at the first weekly parliamentary group meeting of New Perseverance Party (YSP), Chairman Kutay Ilias Bayram unveiled the legislative agenda of his party and commented on current political landscape.

"I will not mince my words, there are utterly idiotic legislations that are still to this date in effect. To name a few, banning contraceptives for religious reasons, prohibiting smoking and drinking, deeming charging interest illegal and so on. Many are not applied at all and ignored, which in turn diminishes the legitimacy of our parliament and the laws it legislates. Our first priority will be to get rid of this absurdity, hopefully with the support of our colleagues from other parties."

Continuing with his speech, Mr Bayram welcomed Prime Minister Melisa Yüksel's commitment to return to the parliamentary system and indirect election of the presidency.

"YSP fully supports Progressive Socialist Changes on this matter and will supply the required votes for the constitutional amendments. One of the legacies of the Perseverance Party that was appreciated by all Jakanians, I think, was the parliamentary system that it reinforced and tried to preserve. I'm especially grateful for Mr President's commitment, which will undoubtedly lead to curtailing the powers of his own office."
