Jakanian government expels Kalopian and Kazulian diplomatic staff
7 April 4768
DOKUZ, JAKANIA: Jakanian Premier Zehra Apak has announced that her government will be expelling fifteen Kalopian and Kazulian officials after the countries conducted joint military exercises in the Majatran Sea. Speaking at a conference with press from across the world, she told reporters that the officials had been identified as "undeclared intelligence officers" and would be designated persona non grata in Jakania from next week. Later in her announcement, she said "Jakania and our international allies will not be deterred by Kazulian attempts to threaten our sovereign territory".
Last week, President Tosun Bayramoglu offered to work alongside his Kalopian counterpart to resolve the ongoing dispute over Kazulia's deployment of naval forces to the region but the Kalopian President Antonis Sipras refused to work with the Jakanian government. According to sources in the President's offices, Sipras told his Jakanian opposite number that "Kazulian financial aid made it clear" that the action should proceed.
In addition to the expulsion, Apak announced that the Republic would be taking various other action "to send a clear message that imperialist aggression will not be tolerated". Among the expected measures to be confirmed in the coming weeks are tighter controls on the Kalopian-Jakanian border and the withdrawal of an invitation to Dokuz for President Sipras. The developments mark a deterioration in the typically harmonious relations between Jakania and its eastern neighbour however Apak noted that they could be easily repaired if Kalopia reversed their decision to collaborate with the regime in Skalm.
