OOC Source: BloombergKalibaka: Former president Fandika is former no more. In a tv speech, watched by millions of Istapalians, Fandika announced that he would reassume the office of President with permission from a new to be formed military government. Fandika cited the, "unlawfull removal of a duly elected president", as the reason for the coup, which has plunged Istapali in chaos rarely seen in its recent history. The constitutional and political crisis culminated in the removal and later reinstatement of Fandika and is now seeing Istapali fall prey to economic hardship, general instability and terrorist advances. The states of Palinata, Balikoro, Imores and Jamiku have completely fallen to UFHF fighters, with their local governments fleeing to neighbouring states and the governor of Imores being beheaded and shown on display in its capital. Other groups have also taken the opportunity to take up arms. One of these has taken over Ugwu and Arimoru, calling themselves the "Istapali League for Revolutionary Socialists" or ILRS. The group, identifying themselves as revolutionaries, took the chaos in their region to their advantage, swifltly taking over control in the two northern states of Istapali with help of anarchists and several citizen militia's. The tribes in the middle of the country have also taken up arms once more, booting out some of their army garissons and mobilizing their own militia's. In some cases the army has actively been fighting the tribes, breaking the almost centuries old unwritten agreement between the two sides not to involve themselves in eachothers matters.
For better or worse, the coup has resulted in a almost civil war like state in Istapali, with the military struggling to maintain control anywhere except for the main cities. As a result of the situation and the, "increasingly authoritarian and anti-human rights regime taking hold in Istapali", the Vanukean Prefect Sumrak, in discussion with the king, has announced the withdrawal of over half of all Vanukean forces in the country, including half of the unionfighters stationed in the Kalibaka military airsport. All remaining forces will be withdrawn to the logistical base in Imores, with the KVJ ordered to maintain a hold on the base and surrounding areas. The Istapalian Army has abandoned most positions in rural Istapali, instead focussing on defending major economic and urban centers as well as certain "cash crop" regions.
Fandika, who has now assumed the presidency once more, used the speech to announce a new military government. The constitution will be disbanded and nullified, with martial law being applied accross the country. A new organ, named the Military Council for Public Affairs or MCPA, will be formed and will act as the ultimate decisionmaking body, consisting of 150 high ranking military officials. They will pass decrees and edicts, which will serve as the basis of law in the country, "until martial law is suspended and calm returns in our streets." according to Fandika. Martial Law also allows the new regime to use the military for policing tasks and ban the right to gathering, right to freedom of press and assembly and more. The chaos has now consumed Istapali, with observers noting that the country has moved on the brink of civil war in a matter of weeks.
The Istapalian economy has crashed during all this, with exports nearly all halted and financial markets falling apart. The Central Bank reported a growthrate of -10% and unemployment skyrocketting to 32% as bussinesses close or go bancrupt and the inflation rate skyrockets. Currently it sits at 110%. The fighting going on in the country increases the problem, with more bussinesses closing and the domino's falling bit by bit. The country has furthermore been renamed the "State of Istapali", with the federal constitution and all local governments officially disbanded as of now, being taken over by the MCPA and local military councils. Will the international community respond? And what will this mean for the fight against terrorism in Istapali?
