Government nationalizes infrastructure around the country, begins various public works projects

Manapo, Toshu - In the beginning of this month, the ruling Workers' Party initiated several major as well as minor public works projects over various parts of the country, this was done after the government finalized their nationalization of the country's infrastructure. The public works projects have seen a dramatic fall of unemployment, as thousands of homeless, poor and other unemployed men and women have signed up for these projects. With a triumphant look on his face, the Premier Thi Quang Anh visited one of these public projects in the capital city of Manapo. Here he could inspect hundreds of people working on the construction of a new major highway meant to provide easier travel access between the capital and the city of Zougha, which is expected to be completed in about one year. Other major public works, is the planned expansion of commercial ports around the nation, as well as repairing old roads and highways around the country, providing a more efficient nationwide travel, for privateers as well as for transports in trade and more.

The Workers' Party also presented to the National Assembly this morning a motion to nationalize the majority of industrial complexes around the nation. The rest of the industrial corporations which remains private, has to undergo tight regulation and government oversight, thus limiting their ability to fully operate independently. With this nationalization, the government hopes to organize even more public works to construct brand new, modern and environmental friendly industrial complexes. Another law which is due to pass in a week or so, is the full guarantee of workers' rights, and enforcement of thousands of new health standards within the workforce in almost every sector of the country. The Workers' Party is also currently negotiating with the Agrarian Centre Party concerning land reforms for farmers, and how to expand agricultural production. No new talks yet have been reported concerning the rumored nationalization of banks, but continuing speculations around it claims that it might occur at the beginning of the next year.

National Assembly declares neutrality, Premier Thi sees no issue in recent developments

Manapo, Toshu - Midway has for a very long time been seen as a country of neutrality, a view the the government wishes to advance upon. Therefore the motion that was proposed last month was approved unanimously among the parties of the National Assembly. Many deputies in the assembly has wanted to make Midway a beacon of peace and democracy in Dovani, a goal shared by the government as well. One way to launch Midway forward internationally is by establishing trade and investment alliances, looking towards nations such as Telamon and Yingdala. With the latter already beginning their investments in fields such as infrastructure. With quite the many projects being conducted, economic analysts has been able to detect a continuing growth, not a large one, but a growth which in a decade or so could create a better economic standing in the nearby region.

Despite the popular declaration of neutrality, there has been a wind of criticism towards both the government and the National Assembly calling them "hypocrites" due to the permission given to Yingdala to build a naval base in Midway. Political experts and analysts have described this as a political misstep by the ruling Workers' Party. The idea of neutrality has been and continues to be one of the most important points for Midway nationalism. In recent polls one could see that the popularity of the Workers' Party has dropped with as much as more than 10%. The opposition has also called the government "incompetent" and demands its resignation. However, during an interview to address the criticism, Premier Thi made it very clear that first of, he can't really see the issue in a Yingdalan military base, or as he likes to call it a "peacekeeping base". He continued to describe in detail the importance to maintain regional peace and stability and that the peacekeeping base is simply there to "...ensure the peace and protect the neutrality of Midway...", stating that the newly founded Midway Republic has for the recent years been economically unstable, which could prompt to neighbors wishing to take advantage of the situation.
Even though giving a clear explanation for this recent development and a very small increase in trust to the government, the polls still show a dangerous number for a cabinet and its parties which compose it.

Manapo, Toshu - As anti-corruption laws labelled by some rights groups as "draconian" are implemented in Kurageri,
Manapo will closely monitor the situation and advise Midwayan citizens on appropriate action to ensure their
safety, the government announced today.

Kurageri's newly elected president, Charlie Nibogora, who famously promised the death penalty for anyone taking bribes of more than 10 LOD,
has been tempered some by reality (the 10 LOD minimum was raised to 10,000 LOD when actually legislated),
but still remains an unpredictable figure. Manapo has alerted Midwayan citizens and businesses in Kurageri to
ensure their accounts are in order and to contact the Midwayan embassy or consulate nearest them if troubles
occur.

Normalizing relations with neighbors of "supreme importance" to gov't

Manapo, Toshu - Following the surprise announcement by Bianjeian Khan Fanggon Hala-i Nikan on state TV of
the outcome of his visit with government officials, Manapo has confirmed that a significant step toward the
normalization of relations with Midway's southwestern neighbor has been made. The erstwhile closed border
will be open effective immediately, and the Bianjeian government has given rare approval for corporations
run by its citizens to operate outside that state's borders in Midway.

Spokespersons from both the Foreign Ministry and the Ministry of Trade met with press to confirm the Khan's
announcement, stating that the governments of both nations had made "strides toward understanding"
following years of strained relations after Yingdala was permitted to open a military base in the heart of
Dovani.

Government officials would not state if the agreement came at any cost to Midway, and did not comment on
the future of the controversial Yingdalan base. SERIZAWA Arata, head of the opposition party Chūritsu-sei
To Heiwa (Neutrality and Peace) stated that while the government's steps to open borders were indicators of
movement in the direction of respect for regional sovereignty, it stopped short of the necessary closure of
the Yindalan base.

5189 election results - Centre claims to get rid of gridlock

The results of the elections:
Communist Party of Midway (CPM) - 6 seats
Greens (G) - 17 seats
Left Union (LU) - 13 seats
Centre (C) - 16 seats
Midwayan Conservative Party (MCP) - 17 seats
Midway Party (MP) - 20 seats
Radical Party(RP) - 11 seats

The 5189 Midwayan elections ended in a slight victory for the right wing, with 48 seats as opposed to the left's 36 of the 100 total. But seeing how neither of the two party groups have gained a majority, it fall to Centre to form a government with either, or neither side. Centre president Mosi Alamieyeseigha has stated that members of Centre have issues with the more extreme parties of both sides of the spectrum. Although some citizens have called this yet another gridlock within Midwayan politics, and the nation is doomed for eternal stagnation, Alamieyeseigha has reassured that this time a government will be formed, and measures taken to bring Midway back to the global scale.

Mosi Alamieyeseigha during a public speech:
"We (C) are not for radical changes, like some of the parties elected. Our goal is to promote restoring relations with our Dovanian friends and trade. We would prefer a centrist government instead of going towards either of the sides of the spectrum. This might prove difficult as the LU, C and MCP combined do not have the seats necessary to form a government, but we will be continuing our negotiations for a stable government.

Hoku Maru (CPM) gave a response in a press conference:
"This election is no different than any before. The centrists are just boasting with their so called victory and are claiming they can do something, when in reality they are just riding the gridlock, and cannot even form a government. How laughable."

Centre manages to form government

In a stunning move, Centre, managed to form a government for the first time in ages
Midway, which has been the victim of unstable governments and failed negotiations between parties, has finally got it's first government in ages. It consists of Centre, the centrist party; MCP, the moderate conservative party and Left Union, the big tent left-wing party. While this only results in 46 seats total, the Greens, which are known for their very radical environmentalist policies have promised to support this government provided it also passes some laws for the environment.

Mosi Alamieyeseigha in a press conference:
"We have finally formed a government, after long negotiations the greens have promised to support a centrist LU-C-MCP government. Our government program will be to improve our relations with other Dovanian neighbors, as well as to start taking part in global and Dovanian politics. The other part of our program is to make some light changes to environmental policies, acquiring more modern military equipment and taking action against unemployment. For this reason alone, making something happen in our homeland for the first time in ages, I think you should vote for my presidency, I will be running for the office."

Several other candidates have announced their candidacy, but only 3 have put substantial time and effort into campaigning, Mosi Alamieyeseigha, Yajima Dayu and Boluwatife.

A president elected - Says Midway must begin restoring relations as soon as possible
For the first time in years, 3 different candidates reached the minimum threshold, but there is much improvement in the election turnout, which was a mere 37%. However, a new president was elected, Mosi Alamieyeseigha (C), who just recently formed the first government just prior to the election date. The vote count has finished today, and President Alamieyeseigha gained a total of 4 188 525 votes out of the 9 234 678 legitimate votes cast.

President Alamieyeseigha will lead the cabined of Midway, and has told the press that he will personally be visiting helping the government restoring and forming new relations with foreign nations together with the minister of Foreign Affairs Madu Orji.

"We should strive for international cooperations, instead of just blind isolationism. There is no good in that, the only way the people can thrive is with cooperation and unity, and we will promote this gladly along our policy of neutrality." said Minister Madu Orji.
President Alamieyeseigha continued: "Minister Orji is correct. Our geographical position shows us that Midway is the perfect example of a nation built on trade and cooperation. If we just keep to ourselves, instead of trading and cooperating, it has a massive effect on global and especially Dovanian trade. We (Midwayans) must begin restoring our relations as soon as possible to make every nation's, and everyone's lifes easier."
