Chinasa: Premier Mi Shin has, after months of continious political pressure and a nearly incapacitated government, has announced her resignation as Premier of the country after 6 years in the job. The reason for her departure is the scandal lingering around her which accused the Premier of using publicly available funds for private dinners and handing out presents to political allies. Her minister of justice had resigned and several of the DSD deputies in congress had openly called for her resignation. Now the time has come after her formal statement read out on national television in which she said:
As your premier i had promised to lead by example, to better our country and to do whats best for its people. I have failed you. The past few months have shown to me that support for my role as your premier and as leader of my party has dwindled significantly. It is therefor that, with deep pain, i must hand in my resignation to the Governor-General and resign as DSD party leader. I thank all of you for your trust in these past 6 years and am truly sorry for how our journey together must now come to an end.
The DSD committee on party elections, led by 10 DSD deputies, has announced that leadership elections will take place next week which will determine the new DSD leader and, by extension, the new Premier as the Governor-General will be constitutionally obligated to nominate the new party leader to the position. Former Justice minister Mazzi Obey has already announced he will not seek the leadership of the party, instead endorsing Defense minister Yusuf Nasir for the position with no other candidates yet announcing.
