BREAKING: Terror attack in Bakinteku kills 25
August 18th, 5370

Bakinteku: In the metropolitan city of Bakinteku a terror attack has killed 25 early this morning after two bombs exploded in a busy suburb of the city. The attack took place in Fari, a poor suburb, just as large crowds had gathered there for the weekly market. The attack saw another 282 wounded as the shrapnel and initial explosion caused mayhem on the street. Bakinteku mayor Halimnye Jelan denounced the attack, calling it "cowardly" and a "easy way to prey on innocent civilians in our city." The Ministry of Domestic Affairs immediately put up threat response measures, sending several units of the Territorial Guard to the scene to provide both security and first aid as healthcare providors and regular police units rushed to the scene to aid the victims. Chairman Kyung has announced a day of national morning to be held next week commemorating the victims of this henous attack. He has also stated that the Federal Security Service has launched a federal investigation into the attack to find out who is responsible. Early leads have indicated that far-right Keobi nationalists are behind the attack, which would be the first attack of a ethnically based combat group in decades and could potentially flare up ethnic tensions in the country. Worryingly the Fari suburb is a area with a primarily Huhoa population, raising concerns that it was targetted on purpose.

The area surrounding the bombing sites has been made a crime scene as both Territorial Guard and FSS officers are gathering evidence for their investigations.

Kaechon Governor Chuwon sentenced to 18 years in prison
August 30th, 5370

Cheobaek: The Federal Western Court has sentenced Kaechon Governor Ryu Chuwon to 18 years in prison following a 2 year long investigation and trial that accused him of corruption and nepotism. The Federal Security Service had concluded its investigation into the governor 9 months ago, with a trial being announced shortly after. Upon pressure from his Liberal Party and senior party officials Governor Chuwon resigned his post as the regional executive once the trial commenced. After months of back and forth between defense and prosecution the federal judge in charge of the trial announced sentencing this morning, which read as follows:

Taking into consideration the evidence presented in this court and the witnesses that were heard over the course of this trial i am ready to announce my sentencing. On the count of corruption, the Federal Western Court finds the defendant GUILTY. On the count of nepotism and bribery the Federal Western Court finds the defendant GUILTY. On the count of Treachery, the Federal Western Court finds the defendant GUILTY. For these three counts combined i sentence the defendant to 18 years in Federal prison. The defendant will not be allowed to run for public office for his remaining life and will be forced to pay 8 million in damages to the Regional Treasury.

The sentencing of Governor Chuwon is seen as a milestone in the country, as it is the first time that a high profile public official is sentenced for a crime like corruption. It is believed that corruption is rampant in the country, with both federal and local politicans involved in it. Human rights and pro-democracy activist groups now hope that the sentencing of Chuwon will be an eye opener and the start of a new chapter in North Dovanian history, a concerted effort to punish corruption in the country.

Bakinteku attack linked to Keobi extremist group
February 8th, 5371

Chinasa: After months of investigation by the FSS the latest report into the Bakinteku attack has revealed that Keobi nationalist extremists are behind the attack. While a specific group has not been named, the report describes the "circle of keobi extreme nationalists seeking to instill fear in local minority populations." Besides the evidence already gathered in the investigation social media has been on fire in recent weeks with far-right and far-left Keobi nationalists praising the attack for the fear it has brought into the Huhoa community. Governor of Sassali Udegbulam Ikenna, a Keobi himself, has denounced the spur of violence in his capital city and underlined the fact that a fast majority of Keobi citizens do not hate or otherwise resent the Huhoa and Kyo populations living in the majority Keobi regions. While a motive is still relatively unclear, it is believed that the resurgence of ethnic nationalism in the majority Keobi regions comes from a unfounded believe that the money and resources of the Keobi population is funneled to the west, were the Huhoa and Kyo primarily live. The primary goal of these nationalists is a sovereign Keobi state. But Chairman Kyung reiterated that the decades of peace that North Dovani has experienced will not "come to an end" and that a "small minority of agitators and terrorists will not force their will of intolerance and hate onto the majority of North Dovanian people." He has announced that he has given the FSS and Federal Police permission to launch a widespread operation to track extremism and anticipate on it quicker, hopefully allowing authorities to prevent attacks such as in Bakinteku more often.

Ground Forces to gain new "Arctic" special forces regiment
February 20th, 5371

Chinasa: Colonel-General Yu Byung-Hoon of the North Dovanian Ground Forces has announced a project currently ongoing to train a new arctic special forces regiment capable of providing quick reaction in the northern region of the country or other arctic regions on Terra. The new unit will be recruited from the pool of career soldiers within the Ground Forces and will fall under a new to be established command, to be named "Strategic Arctic Northern Command" or SANCOM which will be tasked with monitoring the northern regions and deploying this new unit when needed, as well as directing other forces in the area when required. Soon to be SANCOM commander Uchechea Ekene stated that he has "full confidence in our ability to quickly and efficiently create a command theater and special forces unit capable of fast deployment and specialized operations all throughout the North of our country." While the unit will not get a specific name they will be falling under the current naming convention of the North Dovanian Special Forces and will thus be named "8th Special Operations Regiment" or 8th SOR. Training is already underway for this new regiment and the first 500 men of the 8th SOR are expected to be combat ready by the end of next year. New equipment is being both purchased and specifically produced for the unit, which will gain specific armor meant to provide both more head and camouflage in the white arctic regions. The army will provide several of its ground transports and Mi-8 transport helicopters for the 8th SOR to use, granting them general mobility during training or deployment.

Ethnic violence takes hold of North Dovani
February 1st, 5372

Chinasa: What many had hoped would be a isolated incident turned out to be the start of one of the worst episodes of ethnic violence in North Dovani in decades. The attack in Bakinteku has unleashed a fury of ethnic conflict throughout North Dovani as Kyo, Huhoa and Keobi extremists battle it out in the poor suburbs of many major cities and murders are a daily occurance in the country. Bomb attacks, stabbings, shootings and more have gripped the country with authorities scrambling to figure out what to do. Chairman Kyung has announced a nationwide state of emergency last week which only seemed to fire the flames as police, both local and federal, were attacked by extremist fighters. At least 291 people have died in the violence and entire communities are gripped by crime and despair. The federal government has deployed the Territorial Guard in full force, allowing for the major urban centers to remain outside of the fighting. But besides the extremists moderates from both sides are also demanding action and sometimes even an end to the federal union. Amidst the chaos the Army is on standby, seemingly remaining loyal to the federal government and hesitant to do anything besides following orders. The rampant corruption in North Dovani is however hampering the efforts to fight the ethnic violence, as state officials are unable to effectively mount a response, taking bribes from ethnic leaders instead in exchange for their inactivity. Chairman Kyung and the federal cabinet are now consulting on whether or not to deploy the regular army, seen as a last ditch effort to stop major riots and violence from continuing to keep the streets in an iron grip.

Descendant of Numair I vouches for monarchism
March 10th, 5372

Chinasa: The great grandson of shortlived Emperor Numair I, Naiser, has gained traction throughout the country with his message of Monarchism. The ethnic violence taking a grip over the country has let to people flocking to extremes. One of those extremes is Naiser his "neo-monarchism", convincing those that listen to him that despite the shortlived monarchist experience the country did face significant stability in the aftermath of the monarchy. Under his justification a monarchy could bring renewed stability to the country and unite the different ethnic groups under one royal banner. But some historians point out to the disastrous monarchist experiment under Numair I who fled the country with millions in state funds. His great grandson Naiser, 32 years old, has been succesfully shifting the image of his family's history however, now gathering large crowds on his monarchist ralies and bringing more people around to the idea that monarchy could bring stability. Meanwhile the communist oriented Keobi Nationalists have won several high profile elections across Keobi territories, with the mayoral election of Bakinteku also ending up a Keobi National victory. These wins by nationalist elements seem to have brought even moderates to Naiser his neo-monarchist ideals. But still Naiser and his followers are not taken serious by authorities as they still contemplate sending in the army to quell the unrest.

Chairman Kyung is reportedly hesitant to send in the regular army, fearing a escalation of violence. Meanwhile army officers are growing impatient, with the higher echelons of army leadership fearing mutiny as families of soldiers and officers are torn apart by the violence, with the ethnic tensions potentially spilling into the Armed Forces itself.

Rumblings in the military as bomb attack on army annex kills 2
July 18th, 5372

Jinppo: A bomb attack at a army administrative annex has killed 2 and wounded several others, with the continued ethnic unrest in North Dovani blamed for the attack. The attack was reportedly changed by Kyo extremists in a attempt to force a military response. While the military has not responded to the attack and has diverted requests to the Ministry of Defense several sources seem to suggest that officers and high ranking generals alike have become impatient as the federal government recently refused to deploy the regular army to end the unrest in the country. Especially lower ranking officers are "at the brink of defection" according to several sources familiar with the matter. The lack of government resolve is a important reason for the unrest, with many officers believing that without military intervention only more people will die. Meanwhile extremist groups, primarily neo-monarchists and far-left communists are increasing their influence across the country, taking advantage of the volatile situation for their own benefit. Chairman Kyung has not responded to the attack at the army annex, with behind the scenes reports that the chairman is unable to perform his duties after a recent stroke.

BREAKING: Officers stage coup in Chinasa
August 20th, 5372

Chinasa: After nearly a year of unrest within military circles a group of army officers has staged a coup in the capital of Chinasa, seemingly with the support of the 4th Reserve Brigade stationed outside the city. The coup saw key government buildings surrounded and cut off from communications while the State Palace, housing the chairman, was stormed by soldiers of the 4th Reserve. Chairman Kyung was arrested alongside at least half of the cabinet. Communications to the outside were completely cut off as soldiers roamed the streets. Federal and local police were unsure what to do, standing on the sidelines to prevent bloodshed as orders from above did not come throughout the day. While it seems as if the rest of the Armed Forces were not involved in the coup, several generals have supported the move as news broke out, with the Territorial Guard siding with the putchists in full. It seems to have been a bloodless coup as no shots have been reportedly fired. However it adds to the already volatile situation in the country, as ethnic tensions continue to result in riots and clashes and state authority is, in most places, eroded after nearly 2 years of unrest. But with the coup, the "National Recovery Front" as the putchists call themselves, seek to bring back order to the country. Suprisingly enough the officer in charge of the coup has been a vocal monarchist, with Naiser of the House of Simid-al-Akram being summoned by the NRF to the State Palace. Naiser, seemingly worried about the summoning, has reportedly brought his supporters onto the Chinasa streets to make sure that if the new Junta decides to arrest him his supporters could lock the city down. But whether the NRF seeks to arrest Naiser or crown him is unknown as is much now that formal federal authority seems to have ended.

August 22, 5372

It's being called the 'most absurd coup in history'. For 28 nervewracking hours, the North Dovanian people held their bated breath as Prince Naiser of the Numair Dynasty entered the State Palace in Chinasa. It took thirty minutes to convince the prince to leave his loyal supporters, who had intended to stay with him - some even exploring the possibility of storming the palace and taking the levers of state control directly. In the end, prince Naiser ordered his supporters to demobilize, entering the palace under the escort of putschists. The Palace, long the face of state power in the nation, had been occupied by a cabal of usurpers, the self-declared 'National Recovery Front' (NRF), for hours. Threatening would-be saviors of the republic with the hostage situation of Chairman Kyung and access to top-secret military codes housed in the Palace databases, the NRF managed to diffuse the situation, getting the military to stand down. In the meantime, several key generals and over 2/3 of the Joint Chiefs of Staff pledged their loyalty to the new government, as NRF forces managed to reinforce and strengthen their positions around the State Palace. Approximately four hours after his detainment - initially thought by observers to be an arrest - Chairman Kyung released a statement as commander in chief ordering the Armed Forces not to 'encumber the fragility of the present political situation, and to put all faith into the resilience and flexibility of national political institutions'. It is unknown, but highly probable that these requests were made under a state of duress.

The State Palace continued to issue decrees that the national government complied with. Travel into and out of Chinasa was shut down, barriers were erected at prominent points of human traffic. Supporters of prince Naiser, gathered on the streets, that refused to comply with the new dispersal orders were subsequently pacified with tear gas and rubber bullets. Amarachi Uchechy, self-proclaimed chairwoman of the NRF, issued a statement that was broadcast to the monarchists, declaring that the NRF were friends of the prince and that he was in no harm. Despite these claims, no news or media emerged of the prince himself, who many feared to have been arrested within the confines of the State Palace. The public continued to wait in the dark, eager for any message, but the state palace grew silent. Rumors circulated that Chairman Kyung, prince Naiser, or even Uchechy herself had been killed, and that there was a massive struggle for power within the palace halls.

Then, at long last, the following image emerged:

In a stunning turn of events, the State Palace released a photo of Chairman Kyung and prince Naiser shaking hands, holding a golden envelope between them. The NRF qualified these photos by producing a new document, allegedly within the golden envelope, declaring a new government order.

The contents are as follows: The Constitution will be temporarily suspended for a period of five years, replaced by a 'Mandate of Decree'. The Parliament will be dissolved until a later date, when the government deems it is safe enough to reconvene it once more. In the meantime, MPs still within government custody will be released and escorted to their home provinces under the protection of the armed forces. Chairman Kyung will continue his political duties as chairman, and the cabinet will be reconstituted to include prince Naiser. Prince Naiser will receive the special title of 'Protector of the North Dovanian Nation', he will be appointed head of the new 'Ministry for Pacification'; tasked with cultural duties and efforts to preserve national unity. Already, Keobi extremist organizations have began to seek reconciliation with the Ministry of Pacification, swearing loyalty to Naiser. Uchechy will assume the new office of 'Deputy National Director', and will preside over a 'Deputy Advisory Board for National Administration', or DABNA. DABNA will act as a de facto 'shadow government', having unlimited powers to override or modify the decisions of the de jure cabinet. The NRF will be dissolved, and all affiliates will retain their positions, immune to prosecution.

The situation is tense, but the siege of Chinasa is seemingly over as barricades are slowly lifted and the streets are selectively opened. The Federal armed forces have all sworn loyalty to this new arrangement, and even some ethnic extremists have been pacified by the new power granted to prince Naiser. Deputy Director Uchechy declared that she would begin a national de-arming campaign, working with prince Naiser and the Minsitry of Pacification to ultimately achieve unity in North Dovani. In a televised address today, standing beside Chairman Kyung and prince Naiser, the Deputy Director declared her commitment to the ultimate preservation of the federation, the defeat of ethnic extremism, and the restoration of democracy and the constitution. Time will tell if she is successful.

September 1, 5372

In what is being hailed as a 'Major Step' towards the end of ethnic armed conflict in North Dovani, rebel colonel 'Comrade Nnwereonwe' has announced his allegiance to Prince Naiser of the Federal Government's Ministry of Pacification. Comrade Nnwereonwe, real name Onyekachi Chika, was supreme commander of the eastern forces of the terrorist group Ndi Keobi - Agha Mgbanwe Nke Mpakoala, more commonly known as the NKAM. Comrade Nnwereonwe took control of the eastern NKAM following the successful Federal assassination of his predecessor, Comrade Obere Amụ. He was skilled at fighting skirmishes in Ọchaji province, once briefly holding the regional capital of Ugwu Ajaaja for a period of 60 hours before his terrorist forces were forcibly driven out by federal forces. Comrade Nnwereonwe has since announced his full loyalty to the Federal government, assisting the military and giving valuable information in return for promises of reconciliation and rehabilitation.

Comrade Nnwereonwe's turn is seen as the latest in a series of radical anti-terrorist counteroffensives delivered by the new Uchechy regime, which has sought stability and national unity as its primary objectives, continuing to claim to uphold the democratic values of the Federation. Federal forces recently eliminated the NKAM Group North, successfully capturing leader Comrade Ọbaraọbara and disarming more than 750 combatants. These efforts have reduced the NKAM's bases of operation primarily to the remote province of Ugwu Nta, where they are believed to be about 3,100 fighters strong.

The move was widely denounced by terrorist leader and insurrectionary Chikelu Nwabudike.

Comrade Nnwereonwe has turned traitor and joined the Federal devils. May a million curses be upon him, the curses of our ancestors and our compatriots. The turncoat will pay for his treachery as the Keobi masses rise up to support the NKAM and destroy the Federal regime. It is only a matter of time before he is found and brought to justice, having betrayed his countrymen and the mass movement of Keobi nationals.

Once a prominent Keobi nationalist politician and two-time Presidential candidate, Nwabudike led a failed takeover of parliament in an attempt to become President during the political violence of 5370. He was shortly broken out of prison by his associates and fled to the rural central south of the nation, where he formed the NKAM and organized insurrectionist activities. His party, Ndi Keobi, or Keobi Nationals, was subsequently banned as many sympathized with his terrorist activities and joined him. He is believed to be somewhere near Ndụndụ Ukori. The Federal government is currently offering ₭5000,0000 for information that will lead to his capture, dead or alive.

Besides the NKAM, North Dovani is still threatened by insurgency. The Huhoa Rawani Kore movement, which seeks to install an Ahmadist fundamentalist sultanate based in the Huhoa city of Bakinteku, recently claimed responsibility for a Bakinteku bombing that left 12 innocent civilians dead. Although small - only estimated to have 400 members - Rawani Kore are highly mobile and deadly. Civilians should report any suspicious Rawani Kore activity to their local security officials. Much greater and on a high-scale is the threat posed by the Kungmintang (KMT) militants of the west. The KMT have successfully established a de-facto sovereign state centered in their capital of Bulkŭnbyŏl, and have made wide territorial gains in the Kyo-majority "eight provinces" of the west. The KMT are ethnic supremacists that seek to establish a pan Kyo state across northwestern Dovani, citizens should likewise report any KMT activity or sympathizers they suspect to the government.
