Kurageri Creates New External Aid Agency
September 8, 4949

President Toshi Kabwe has announced the creation of an External Development Agency which will be tasked with providing development aid to "impoverished nations". The Agency will be endowed with an annual budget of 25 million - modest by international standard yet a powerful sign of Kurageri's progress since the anti-corruption revolution under former President Charlie Nibogora's and also the massive economic benefits accruing from membership of the Kitembo Union.

Economists say that the Kuragao economy is now 23_times larger than it was three decades ago with economic growth rarely dipping below 10% of GDP over the past thirty years. Extreme poverty has fallen from over 80% of the population to 14%. With economic growth, new issues have arisen such as environmental degradation, extremely high inequality and rising crime. Most Kuragaos remain highly optimistic with older generations in particular keeping the flame of anti corruption with grim tales of the bad old days.

President Removed From Office Over Public Housing Scandal
September 8, 4969

President Agatha Omamo has been removed from office over her involvement in a corruption scandal which has gripped Kuragaos for the past three months. Omamo is alleged to have pressurised the Office of Publlic Housing to grant her nephew a government-subsidised flat. The Zero Tolerance Squad, a powerful anti-corruption pressure group collected 600,000 signatures calling for her removal and submitted them to the legislature which speedily acted upon the petition Many, particular young Kuragao have questioned the zeal of the Squad and legislators to remove one of the country''s very few female leaders over what they deem to be a slight offence which should have been punished less severely. Of late many especially among the young, believe that the extremely strict anti-corruption laws have created a grim and self-righteous political scene and an atmosphere of denunciation. Some believe that the President should have been fined or some other less draconian punishment. Older Kuragao disagree violently and oppose any loosening of the Charlie Niobogora laws, remembering the endemic corruption of the old days and defend the laws through disproportionately high political activity and voter turnout rates.
