In Response to Vascanian Conscription and Recent Zoo Alliance Actions, Vicereine and People Pass Medina's Own Conscription Law

After the Empress of Vascania and her right-wing allies passed the military conscription part of her 'Vascanian Renewal' agenda, Medina, the Empire's neighbor, acted quickly in response. The law, proposed by the Vicereine herself in a rare move, was approved for deliberation by the Committee of Selection unanimously with 16 votes, where it was then deliberated on by the Assembly of Deliberation. The Assembly modified parts of the law, including adding the section allowing for religious objections, with speaker Aliyya Kaira commenting that "without objections we are no better than the Sundarata supremacists in Vascania". The law was passed by the people with a 73% yes count, and the Board of Experts raised no objections.

The National Commissioners of the Branches of the Armed Forces salute the Vicereine and President at the first parade featuring the new recruits.

The law, mirroring Vascania's, calls for all citizens, regardless of gender, will be required to begin a two year service at the age of 18 for 3 years. Objectors, for physical, psychological, religious, or ethical reasons may be exempted from the military service and instead perform a year and a half of either civilian service or a course in medicine or education, which mirrors Vascania's law closely. Again similar to Vascania's law, a wage higher than the national minimum will be granted, and all conscripts will be able to choose their branch of service. The Vicereine called the move "beneficial to our nation, our people, and our safety", while stressing the "importance of non-aggression with our neighbors, while not being defenceless". The head of the Defence Secretariat called this "a wise move", but again stressed the importance of using this for defence. There were also hints that the law may be used to expand Medinian influence and intervention in Dovani, especially after the development of new technology that specifically suits combat in commonly-underdeveloped continental Dovani.

Deltaria Assists Medina in Expanding Navy and Naval Infrastructure; Vicereine Announces "Economy of the 49th Century" Plan

Back in September, the Government of Deltaria sold Medina a series of naval vessels, conducted training exercises, and talked further into the development of Medinian naval infrastructure, as well as increased cooperation between the two nations in the future. The ships sold included 3 destroyers, 2 frigates, and 10 corvettes, all aging models that had been decommissioned from the Deltarian Navy, for purposes of cost reduction. That aside, the new ships place Medina as a preeminent naval power (by Dovani standards), behind only the regional powers of Ostland and Vascania (whom Medina has a rivalry with, after Vascania pressured Medina into not having a sizable navy). The ships were used in training exercises, along with the Deltarian Strike Group brought along and existing Medinian Navy ships and other Medinian aircraft. While the Medinian attempts to halt or reroute the strike group failed, Medinian naval and air force commanders learned valuable lessons. The Air Force as well learned specific lessons to them, as although their fighters are only slightly lower quality, they were routed by the superior Deltarian tactics. It served as a wake up call for the entire Medinian military to update their tactics and keep thinking.

The Deltarian delegation also agreed to assist Medina in developing their first naval dockyards, which would allow the Dovani nation to begin construction on smaller vessels, such as coastal defence corvettes and the like. Medina, historically, has been a nation that is shown to be willing to wait for the prize, prioritizing license productions and military investment over straight gifts or sales of military equipment. This marks a major step in Medina's military advancement, as previously they were unable to show their force in any other way than aerial, but the naval developments will allow the Zahiri Republic to expand their sphere of influence into nearby nations across seas.

In other news, the Vicereine, along with various economic-focused Secretariats, announced the "Economy of the 49th Century", an updated scheme to increase Medinian economic power and influence domestically and internationally. The ambitious plan would call for the initial investment of billions of LOD in infrastructure, which has already been a priority for the last decade or so. As the government had a massive boost not only in popularity but also in volunteers after they managed to complete their goal of total electrical lighting and coverage for every major city in the nation, and since has been expanding that pledge to smaller towns and villages, the completion of the infrastructure project will go quickly. That infrastructure will be used to expand current resource extraction missions into the mountains that run through the center of the nation, a currently underused resource that could revolutionize exports. Before that vein of economic growth is tapped though, the plan would call for resource refinement centers to be created, allowing the raw resources (rare earth metals, copper, bauxite, and smaller amounts of titanium and such) to be purified into goods that will fetch a much larger price on the international market.
