State funeral of Emperor Kōhō II, Heimeikyo
Heimeikyo, 31.12.5437 - Yesterday, December 30th, The Ministry of the Imperial Household announced that Her Imperial Majesty the Emperor Kōhō II, born as Narinomiya Tadahito II, passed away during the night between the 29th and 30th due to old age.
Kōhō II was named after Kōhō I, dubbed "the last Emperor of Sekowo". In fact, Kōhō I was the last Monarch in Sekowo to retain polticial power. In 5284, following the implementation of the new constitution, the Emperor became a mere national symbol, deprived of all former temporal power. In 5301, Narinomiya Harumasa succeeded to the throne, and after him Narinomiya Kunimasa became Emperor in 5342. His son Tadahito II ascended to the throne in 5373, and has reigned for 64 years. As he was unmarried and left no clear heirs, the future of the Sekowan Imperial family is uncertain.
State funerals have been held today in Heimeikyo, and a national grieving has been proclaimed until the 6th of January
