Hirano Resigns
August 4, 3656
Hideo Hirano has resigned as Sessei after a term of just 19 months. Hirano resigned after it became clear that the Queen's Household Bureau was invovled in the drafting and distribution of a petition to the Kokkai calling on the Government to stop its forest privatisation plan which led to the Kokkai rejecting the proposal. Hirano himself has claimed that the Kokkai's rejection , not the Queen's presumed intervention led to his resignation. Others have also blamed his excessive focus on the Ishinawa Conference which appears to remain in a stalemate.

Elections will be held to replace him next month, with his party the Renaissance Party nominating Foreign Minister Chuka Tsukino, unopposed, as its candidate for Sessei. The fact that the country, by September, will has seen four Sessei in the past three years has led some to question the wisdom of a directly elected head of government. Few are excited about the election where the Renaissance Party expects an easy victory, facing little opposition and with its rallying cry of “it’s us, chaos or the Lodamunization menace!’, in reference to the former regime's cultural preferences.
