SDI Agents Apprehended As Sides Trade Precision Strikes
Image

In spite of international efforts to come to a peaceful settlement, the conflict between the Vascanian and Deltarian alliances has continued with a number of military targets in both nations being hit by attacks. Aerial attacks launched by Vascanian reached southern Medina and successfully struck a number of sites used by Deltaria for refueling and as troop barracks. The Vascanian air force has stated that there were a small number of downed planes, resulting in a combination of fatalities and captures of Vascanian personnel. The damage caused, however, is thought to have delayed Deltarian movements and caused some costly damage to the garrisoned ground forces.

The attacks were reciprocated by several covert missions against Vascanian position on some of the Empire's outlying island positions. Despite the Deltarian SDI agency's reputation for success, one attack resulted in the capture of between five and eight 'subversives' by Vascanian forces. The presence of so many powerful naval possessions in the region has prevented further naval contact after the sinking of a Vascanian destroyer, with casualties expected to be around 100 personnel. Calls have abounded on Vascanian social media for the SDI agents to be summarily executed in vengeance for the sunk vessel but the agents are simply being held for the time being.

Empress To Begin 'De-Escalation Period'
Image

The Empress has announced that it is her and her government's will that Vascanian enter a period of de-escalation with the Deltarian, Medinese and Liori governments. In particular, Vascania will attend peace meetings in Malivia, Yingdala, Whale Island or wherever else it is possible to host such engagements. The Foreign Affairs Minister will prioritise towards diplomatic efforts while the Defence Minister is set to be announcing plans on mine removal in the seas north of Vascania. This is all part of an effort to reduce tensions and improve public safety after years of escalation between the Empire and various other nations in the region, centring around perceiving Deltarian influence over the far-east.

After a number of civilians had been killed in the conflict and a number of Vascanian soldiers had also died, it became clear - according to government sources - that the current government policy surrounding the conflict was no longer 'worth continuing'. Because of this policy change, the government will abandon its measures to block movement into Medina and Liore - easing the economic impact for the Dovani nations affected.

However, despite urging from the Malivian government, the Vascanian state still refuses to release Deltarian agents held after capture in combat. The combatants involved are set to be executed regardless of other efforts, according to leaked reports from the Justice Ministry. Measures surrounding the payment of compensation to affected nations has yet to be discussed publicly but it is likely to a major sticking point in upcoming negotiations between all involved parties in the dispute.

'Quiet Decade' Threatened By Election Upset
Image

The so-called 'quiet decade' of Vascanian politics may be over after a set of unexpected election results. The right-wing Rashtravadi Morcha (RM), won 138 of 720 seats despite the extreme views of party leader Hrishikesh Peri. Peri campaigned on an avowedly anti-Ahmadi platform, promising to make Ahmadism illegal and to expel the remaining faithful in Vascania. Other policies of the RM include strict government surveillance of social media and a de-normalisation of relations with Deltaria, Medina and Liore. Some commentators have suggested that Peri's relative success is a direct result of damaged national pride, with many in the public being openly dissatisfied with Vascania's position in the world.

Peri and a handful of colleagues split from the governing conservative party, the VRK, partially as a result of the government's inactivity in the last parliamentary term. Having adopted a policy of inoffensiveness, the VRK chose to make few moves after the government's foreign policy failures. These included a financially disastrous defeat in the Medina-Liore crisis and the loss of the nation's Security Council position. To many in the VRK's culturally conservative base, these failings were a sign of national decline and a lack of proper appreciation for the nation's might by its neighbours. In Kalam Nadu, the nation's most conservative state, the RM took nearly a third of the vote despite its VRK tendencies.

Ultimately, the conservative VRK should be able to government relatively easily in a strong minority position. The regionalists and independents in the parliament are likely to support the government in areas where the RM takes a hardline position. The left, on the other hand, has hit yet another lowpoint. Even its strongest member, the socialist LSS, is only the third party while their potential allies have few seats. In order to prevent a continuous drift to the right, the onus is on the more moderate parties to work collaboratively. It would be unwise to presume the RM's success is but a momentary thing - it could certainly snowball.

How True Vascanians Stood Up & Put Socialism On The Back Foot
by Yad Gaur

After years of unacceptable national decline, the true people of our great land have arisen and made their voices clear. They voted for proud Vascanian nationalists and put the far-left, radical, cultural marxist LSS into a miserable third place. The socialist ways of the past shall no longer shackle us and we shall suffer no more international embarrassments if the Vascanian people can help it!

In recent years, our nation has seen dishonour brought upon it repeatedly: refusing to bomb civilian centres in our conflict with Medina and Liore, apologising over fishermen being blown up by our mines, cleaning up oil spills rather than trusting the Gods to save the worthy animals. It's all getting far too much for so many of us to take. Us true conservatives do not want to see lesbians kissing in public or women getting paid equally to men, we want to see traditional values reintroduced into our government.

Extreme liberal social media users will try to use their pathetic lies to defend themselves. "The left hasn't been in power for over two decades", "the U-turn on Medina-Liore was a decision made by the conservative government" and their new favourite "you can't blame all our nation's problems on gay people". Common sense will tell you that none of these statements are true, even if they may be 'facts'. At the end of the day, even if the VRK says that they are conservative, they are in fact not. They continue to allow gays into women's changing rooms, allow transgenderism to run rampant in our schools and even let some Ahmadis to have rights. Does this sound like conservatism to you? To me, it sounds like marxism with extra steps.

The sheeple on the far-left may lie to you, dear reader, but do not worry: the real people of Vascania are waking up. We are taking back control through the ballot box and our voices must be heard. This time we may have only won 138 out of 720 seats, but next time it'll go up and then up again the time after that. We are at the beginning of a national awakening and the ordinary decent people of our country are standing up. The Sangora Post proudly endorses the RM party in all future elections!

Coalition government pledges to expand fossil fuel extractions
Image

The coalition government has promised to expand natural resource extraction efforts in Vascania - especially with regard to oil and natural gas - despite warnings from environmental experts. The Ministry of Technology & Natural Resources is set to use an incoming budget increase to expand existing sites and construct new ones, taking advantage of recently rolled-back regulations. Some sites will then be sold to private companies like Energy-Prism and VascaGasca in a bid to build up the private fossil fuel sector. The aforementioned repeal of fossil fuel regulations - many of which were instituted in the aftermath of the Panorisa oil spill - allows the government and private contractors to greatly increase oil and gas production in the lakes of Vascania, off the coasts and now on land.

Campaigners with the group 'Protection Vascania' have protested the announcement, with organising leaders citing a paper by the West Kayal University School of Ecology as reason to oppose the measures. The paper - written by Professors Indra Bhadhat and Ghudi Sandishwa - says that increased on-land fracking could lead to serious contamination of drinking water underground, while at-sea production could lead to a repeat of the Panorisa spill without proper regulation. Bhadhat and Sandishwa write that a second spill would lead to further extinctions in the fragile ecosystems surrounding and within the lake, many of which have barely recovered from the original disaster.
