The move comes at a time of economic complexity as powerful western countries like Deltaria and their allies face a wave of new economic recession - while a non-aligned power like Vascania is free to start making serious investment moves in the global economic sphere. The project would particularly target nations that have yet to align to any other major international force and may be unveiled with the support of Liore, a historic rival of Vascania that has experienced exceptional economic growth despite complicated internal politics.

Government sources suggest that the Prime Minister feels confident that now is the time to invest heavily in international ties despite the economic downturn in Majatra and closely-aligned states. This is largely because the hit to oil producers in the west is presumed to be an opportunity for the Vascanian government to fine-tune their own production, even though the government had ran in the election on a more solidly environmentalist ticket. The PM and his government have been successful in beginning the process of shifting disadvantaged communities away from coal and gas production, but oil remains too valuable as a diplomatic and economic tool to really be threatened by internal forces. This is not to the liking of many Socialist Party members, or the junior coalition members in the Green Party, but they have very little room to maneuver in a fractious political situation like this.

Greens: government must live up to its pledges


The leader of the Green Party, Internal Affairs Minister Jhansi Mukkavilli, has hinted at her party's disappointment with regards to the government's ecological policy. Having entered a coalition with the Democratic Socialist Party (DSP) believing that the two were now aligned on the petroleum issue, Ms. Mukkavilli did not mince words in calling for greater action to combat habitat destruction and pointed out oil in particular as an area in which the government was lagging behind its stated objectives. The comments come as internal divisions grow within the government over the most practical way to phase out fossil fuels, which are viewed negatively by members of both the Greens and the DSP, considering the extent to which oil empowers Vascania as a geopolitical powerhouse.

Green and DSP members have been in uproar at the suggestion made by government spokespeople to delay indefinitely the 'defossilisation' of Vascania's export-driven economy so as to finance an investment venture with Liore. Mukkavilli and others have pointed to Vascania's already well-developed service and technology sectors as alternative sources of revenue in an increasingly well-developed country. The share of the Vascanian government's revenue coming from oil production has declined in the last century from 19.8% to 12.4%, while technology the digital economy nearly doubled from 4.1% to 8.0%. Campaigners are heartened, however, by measures to transition away from fracking near nature reserves - though climatologists at the University of West Kayal suggest that this is the bare minimum required to prevent ecological catastrophe.

Foreign Affairs Minister Tambethra Sidhara has told VascaniaNews that the investment campaign jointly operated by Liore and Vascania 'solidifies' the emerging friendship of the two eastern powers. Referring to the decision to invest in North Dovani and Temania in particular, Minister Sidhara said that the position of the Vascanian government is that the investments enable 'broader cooperation' between the two investing nations and the receiving nations. The decision to invest in these countries is connected to the global economic hardships, Sidhara adds, which the Minister says have prompted a 'pan-Dovani sentiment' encouraging various eastern nations to act collectively. Sidhara also made a point of noting that she rejects anti-western sentiment or 'blaming' the international recessions on 'any particular group'.

The move was announced by the two governments last year and has targeted two of the larger but relatively underdeveloped nations in the eastern hemisphere. Both have historically been affected by corruption and regionalism, leading to fears that the funds would be misappropriated and not reach the desired targets. Despite this, the Vascanian government claims it is 'confident' that the investment has already had, at least partially, the desired affect and will continue to be beneficial to these nations in the future. Pro-oil faction jumps ship from coalition

A group of Democratic Socialist dissidents and small local parties have left the governing coalition in protest at deal struck internally to recommit the government to environmentalism. The new grouping will contest the upcoming elections in opposition to both the DSP-Green coalition and to the right-wing parties, under the name 'United Socialist-Labour Front'. With the stated aim of bringing back pro-oil leftism after being pushed aside within the DSP, most of the politicians who have confirmed their exit are noted trade unionists from lower-income states like Bhaporistan and Utsal. The party has evidently been in the works for some time, judging by the speed with which it has been able to organise a website and some internal party structure. It will require more than that, however, for the USLF to be a serious force in the coming general election.

After the Green Party publicly criticised Prime Minister Amitubh Jagaat for his decision to side-line ecological issues in favour of using petroleum as a diplomatic tool, Jagaat had begun seeking a comprise within the bitterly divided coalition. The ultimate compromise was unacceptable to many in the shrinking but still sizeable part of the coalition that takes an unorthodox stance on ecology. Seeing the utility of petroleum as a means to fund social spending, these politicians are particularly populist and anti-establishment despite their ties to the largely monopolistic fossil fuel industry. They are also partial to social conservatism, splitting away from the broader left-of-centre progressivism that is common in urban centres and Vascania's ever-expanding suburbs.

The left has historically won elections in Vascania by uniting the industrial states of the central belt alongside major urban centres. That these areas have distinct politics on ecology and social issues has always been a rift liable to eventually split apart, but has not done so fully until now. It is difficult to see the left winning with just one of these areas, as rural towns and villages tend to vote overwhelmingly for the right, as do certain northern urban areas like Sangora. If no group is able to form a coalition after the next elections, the politics of Vascania could become increasingly chaotic. The question remains how much support this new grouping could get nationwide.

Coalition talks set to begin after close election

Coalition talks between the right-wing National Action Party and right-of-centre minor parties are set to begin by the end of the week after the NAP won the most seats in the Vascanian parliamentary elections. Taking 283 seats to the Democratic Socialist Party's 260, the NAP will have the first chance to form a government. Their most likely path to a majority is to cut a deal with the far-right Nationalist Party, regional conservative parties and possibly the populist Communitarian Party. The results are a blow to the incumbent left-wing coalition, who had expected to remain in a commanding position. The unexpected strength of the Nationalists, despite relatively poor polling, has been pointed to by many analysts as to why the right seems in a better position than the left to form government after the 4857 election.

The performance of the United Socialist Labour Front (often referred to simply as 'Socialist Labour' or 'USLF') has been considered an over-performance, as the group had little time to organise and few resources after their split from the Democratic Socialist Party. Running on a socially conservative but economically socialist ticket, the USLF won a substantial number of seats in Bhaporistan and Utsal but only two victories outside those states - a single win in Kamalata city and one seat in Surasa. Some have suggested that the USLF's laser-focus on these two states is counterproductive, as it reduces the number of seats they can feasibly win in a proportional system. Others, including party spokespeople, say that the party is building a base where it is most able but will soon be expanding to other areas as resources allow. Socialist Labour is touting that it topped the polls in Bhapor city as a sign of momentum.

Government blasts Deltarian 'white saviour complex' and 'neo-colonialism'

The new Prime Minister, conservative Taran Onteddu, has rubbished Deltaria's plans to invest in Dovani nations, accusing the Majatran nation of possessing an 'overbearing white saviour complex'. PM Onteddu, who heads the recently formed right-wing coalition in the Vascanian parliament, did not hold back in attacking Deltaria's ambitious plans to upstage Vascanian in the east through a large investment scheme targeting areas of geopolitical intrigue. The plan, announced almost immediately after the completion of Vascania's second round of investments in the east, mirrors the Vascanian idea almost completely and has been ridiculed as an 'echo' of Vascanian influence. The moves are seen as a sudden and unprovoked escalation in tensions in the east, which has likely lead to the pugnacious response offered in our interview with Mr. Onteddu.

Other members of the government and of the opposition have attacked the Deltarian plans. The former Prime Minister, Amitubh Jagaat, said that the plans constituted 'the dying breaths of a once-powerful nation, squatting in its own ruins'. Prime Minister Onteddu was visibly frustrated in the interview to VascaniaNews, in which he called the Deltarians 'lesser creatures', 'half-sociopathic', 'white narcissists' and 'cultureless'. It is sad to see that greedy western nations continue to delude themselves with exaggerated notions of their own usefulness. The neo-colonialism is strong with this one. The overbearing white saviour complex that Deltaria possesses is among the most extreme cases of the half-cynical, half-sociopathic attitude that the old coloniser states have made less than no effort in changing. The money Deltaria is promising to the east will go to building military infrastructure for their own use and the use of their corporations. No native Dovanian will see a penny of their money.

The shade provided by the elephant's shadow is great, so it is only natural that lesser creatures will seek to live in the elephant's shadow. However, it is unfortunate that so very many nations base their entire identity around mimicking others. Deltaria and their many stooges seem so deeply preoccupied with whatever Vascania is doing simply because their own desolate, cultureless lands have nothing to take pride in. States that exist only as blank canvasses on which a precession of white narcissists spray their feces and call it 'art'. It is the attitude of a patient in a maximum-security psychiatric ward who has grown an extreme obsession with their nurse.

Let me assure the Deltarian President that their dreams of a pipeline between Majatra and Dovani are half-brained and utterly illegal. As long as we are speaking from our backsides, I hereby pledge to build a pipeline between Keymon and the sun! If Deltaria attempts to construct such a monstrosity, they will have only themselves to blame when their work is suddenly laid to waste.

The plans would include a three-phase strategy widely viewed as a path to buy the Deltarian government's way into hegemony in Dovani, including promises of infrastructure construction and weapons sales. The idea has been widely trashed by Vascanians from across the political spectrum, both in government and in the public. The nation, only a few thousand miles from the eastern coast of Vascania, has been mocked by newspapers as 'the land of echoes' and 'a cesspit scarred by inbreeding'. Social media users have shared memes embracing the theory than the Dovanian and Medinese governments 'sit around all day' until Vascania does something, or that those nations are ran by parrots who are trained to repeat the last thing that they heard.

Memes circulating widely online are also targeting the Deltarian plan to build a pipeline from Majatra to Dovani, with humorous maps asking Deltaria to 'please explain' how the pipeline could logistically work considering that Vascania is situated between Majatra and Dovani. Others suggested that the government of the powerful Majatran country was 'off their meds' when they drew up the idea. Yet more users mocked the Majatran power as being 'constantly on the brink of recession'. Many users in other Dovani nations joined in on the mockery, pointing out the 'uncreative' and 'reactive' nature of Deltarian foreign policy and asking their governments not to go along with the idea.
