Minese Army Takes Nefa Towns, Fighting Continues
November 4841 (postdated)

OOC Source: BBC

Nefa: After months of conflict the Minese Army has reportedly captured two Nefa border towns, with hundreds of casualties on both sides this is the first real gain by either Liore or Mina in the entire border conflict. While for the first few months fighting largely revolved around continious artillery barrages and occasional skirmishes the third month of fighting saw the 2nd mechanized brigade of the Minese Army make a push for the border towns of Nifi and Makish. The brigade encountered stiff ressistance, taking significant losses in both men and equipment but eventually managing to besiege the two towns. After two months of intense urban combat both towns surrendered to Minese forces, resulting in the first win for Mina since the war.

The brigade has already been nicknamed the "Battering Ram" of Mina for their brave attack despite heavy losses. As the towns were captured it is the first break in the Liore line since the start of the conflict. While Minese forces failed to push further into Nefa fighting continues accross the line with artillery barrages still being a daily occurance. Despite this continued fighting its clear both sides are running out of resources and energy. With over 1 million shell being collectively shot already and 4.000 deaths both Liore and Mina are likely eager to sign a truce to regain strength. The Nefa border conflict is so far one of the most bloody border conflicts in the region since decades with no real end inside besides a temporary truce being likely.

Suicide Bomber Kills Premier, Economy Worsens
May 4845

Wad Mabelat just after the suicide bomber killed Premier Shawqi al-Imam
OOC Source: BBC

Wad Mabelat: Premier (Prime Minister) Shawqi al-Imam has been killed in a daring suicide attack early this morning in the Minese capital of Wad Mabelat. The attack, claimed by the Tribal Confederation of Mina, killed over 20 people in total and injured 100 more. It is the first attack of the TCM that has succesfully killed a high ranking government official. Premier al-Imam was one of the more experienced members in the government. As premier he had the job of keeping the president in check and report his conduct to the BPUP Governing Body as well as managing the state cabinet and performing tasks delegated to him by the president. al-Imam was considered to be the architect of the military operations in Nefa and the west of Mina against Liore and the Tribal Confederation. President el-Mahdi has publicly condemned the attack and wished the premier his family well. The President and BPUP Governing Body have presented Kaamil el-Nour, former Defense Minister, as the new Premier. He is to be confirmed by the People's Congress later this year.

The attack underscores a larger problem in Mina. During the last few years, following conflict with Liore and guerilla groups in Mina itself as well as continued economic problems and civil unrest the situation in the country has worsened. Terrorist attacks are a daily occurance now with Wad Mabelat being a labyrint of militia and military checkpoints. A report of the World Congress showed that the Ba'athist government only has real actual control over the capital, Wad Mabelat, and several other urban centers while the medium sized towns and rural areas of the country are in de-facto control of a variety of oppossition groups with the largest one being the Tribal Confederation in the west, which has established their own government and continues to fight the central Ba'athist government for control. This political and societal instability and near anarchy has resulted in the Minese economy taking a deep dive since the end of the border conflict with Liore. While at first the economy was stagnant but stable it has now entered a dangerous area with the growthrate at -5.2% and unemployment at a staggering 54% of the working population. Inflation has also skyrocketed with the current rate sitting at 124% inflation.

The lifes of Minese people is worsening as the inflation and large unemployment rate causes those struggling to stay alive to turn to unorthodox criminal methods to find food and supplies. More and more people in the country are relying on local warlords and rebel groups to provide them with food and basic necessities as the central government struggles to respond. The BPUP People's Congress and the President have instead put almost all state resources in maintaining the various government alligned militia's and the Minese Army, keeping them happy as to ensure their loyalty. While unrest continues to grow most in Mina are unable to overthrow the current regime as their network of militia's and the official Minese Armed Forces remains relatively strong and loyal to the regime which they brought to power. It is unclear how the escalating situation will resolve in the future with a regime more keen on maintaining power then with improving conditions in the country.

Ahmadi Liberation Party wins stunning October election
October, 5070

Wad Mabelat - Irfaan al-Radi, a prominent Israist cleric and leader of the Ahmadi Liberation Party (Dovani Majatran: Hizb al-Tahrir al-Ahmadii), has been elected as the President of the Majatran Republic of Mina following a highly contested election between the Majatran Socialist Ba'ath Party - Mina Region and the Ahmadi Liberation Party. The ALP ran on a platform of enhancing social welfare programs as an unprecedented number of Minan's face unemployment, a staggering 57% of Minan's are unemployed or employed in temporary, daily labor sources. The report was leaked from within the Ba'athist controlled Ministry of Finance and Economy and promoted the Ba'athist President Badr al-Mir to sack his Prime Minister, Yoosuf al-Mahmoud and Finance and Economy Minister Mujahid el-Mussa in mid July, 5070. President al-Mir appointed Deputy Prime Minister Abdul Ghani al-Edris as the interim Prime Minister but the Council of the Republic did not formally announce him as the new Prime Minister, a worrying step which generated splits within the Ba'athist Regional Command. Elections were overseen by monitors from the Dovani Pact and a representative from Ostland noted that the elections possessed some irregularities but were otherwise "functional". The ALP placed first with just over 97 seats, the Ba'athist second with 83 seats, the big-tent National Republican Alliance with 37 and the smaller Dovani Liberation Front 19 seats. The loss saw the near super majority for the Ba'athist collapse and usher in a new government where the ALP is being supported by the National Republican Alliance. al-Radi has named close ally and fellow Israist cleric Abdul Noor el-Hoda as the Prime Minister, he also named leader of the NRA Ameer al-Shakoor as the Deputy Prime Minister.

ALP-Ba'athist clash in Council of Republic, supporters clash in streets
January, 5071

Wad Mabelat - As the fallout from the October, 5070 election continue the Ba'athist and Ahmadi Liberation Party continue to clash in the Council of the Republic in regards to the election. Ba'athist have cited Dovani Pact observer reports that the election had irregularities but omit the fact that the Dovani Pact observers stated that the election was "functional". President al-Radi addressed the concerns within the Council of the Republic amidst heavy security and a heavy presence from his supporters, known as the "Radi Brigade", he noted that he had tasked the Ministry of the Interior to develop a plan for electoral security. Representatives from the big-tent National Republican Alliance, the junior coalition partner of the ALP, has promised that they would be a driving factor in the process to ensure electoral security. The Ba'athist are not without their own issues internally however, the Regional Command remains divided over appoint a new leader after former President Badr al-Mir resigned with reports stated that he left the country and went to stay in Kafuristan, formally the position of Regional Secretary-General remains unfilled and several Ba'athist leaders are vying for power. Political experts believe that the power struggle may turn violent.

Despite the tense, but calm in the Council of the Republic, Ba'athist and ALP supporters have clashed in the streets; this prompted a heavy handed response by the police and security forces. The vast majority of these supporters are unarmed militia and paramilitary members of both the Ba'athist and the Ahamdi Liberation Party. The new Director of the General Intelligence Directorate Arkaan el-Salih, a close confident and former commander in the Radi Brigade, has spurred some debate amongst the Council of the Republic but President al-Radi confirmed that he was a neutral, non-political figure. Gath Defense Collective published a profile on el-Salih, known as the "Commander of the Faithful" in some circles, he is noted to have close ties to the Ahmadi State in Majatra, the Ahmadi State in Kafuristan and is said to have fought with the Majatran Mujadheen in Kafuristan on several occasions. Salih is responsible for the development of the Majatran Mujadheen in Dovani, an off-shoot that still maintains close ties with the MMK. Salih is also a member of the Supreme Israic Council - Majatran Struggle Party which is a global political organization dedicated to the teachings of Israism and has been considered a terrorist organization. Irrespective of that Salih has promised to crack down on extra-judicial groups and paramilitary organizations.

Suicide bomber claims the lives of 15 pro-Liore Minans.
May, 5071

Khahad, Er Rabat State - Critics of the new Ahmadi government in Mina have thrown further criticism on them as the President has refused to condemn the recent terrorist attack inside the city of Khahad, in the Er Rabat State where a group of pro-Liore Minan's had gathered to celebrate the recent elections in the Nefa State. Minister of the Interior Husni el-Sadek condemned the attack. The Minister stated that the General Intelligence Directorate had been dispatched alongside additional resources from the Public Security Directorate. He however refused to place blame on any one group, representatives from the Ba'athist Party have shared images, videos and pictures of a man who was heard shouting Ahmadi-related chants often associated with suicide bombers. The President office has refused to comment, only issuing a statement of support for the victims of the attack but refusing to comment elsewhere on the attack. President al-Radi was visiting the opening of the new Sheikh Quraish al-Amara Regional Medical Center in the Umm Qanhad State, a bastion of support for the Ahmadi Liberation Party and attending a visit with Governor of Umm Qanhad Musaaid el-Munir; when approached by reporters following the meeting, they were pushed away by the President security detail.

New Years attacks in Nefa, growing discontent with Liori occupation
January, 5073

Nefa State - Representatives from the General Intelligence Directorate have announced an uptick in foreigners entering into Nefa, notably those with murky backgrounds as it announced a nation-wide crackdown on "...radical elements in Minan society." This comes after two separate vehicle-borne improvised explosive devices were exploded in the Nefa State killing 17 Minans, and 9 Liori citizens. President al-Radi condemned the attack and stated that the Minan government pledged to fully investigate the attacks and the threats that have come from online forums and social media. "We will never bow down to the radicals in our society that have conducted these shameful attacks. We call upon our people to assist us in developing a plan to combat these attacks. We are working with our partners and allies to handle this situation. The General Intelligence Directorate has dedicated themselves fully to halting these radical elements." While publicly the Minan government has come out against these attacks, the Ba'athist have claimed they are supporting these elements in society. The Ba'athist have pointed to General Intelligence Directorate Director Arkaan el-Salih who has close ties, including membership in the Supreme Israic Council - Majatran Struggle Party and the Majatran Mujadheen in Dovani; he however claims that these are simply religious organizations who unfortunately have some members who have taken to practicing a "...different stand of faith." While the situation in Nefa grows concerning, President al-Radi called on the Liori government to return Nefa to its proper owner, Mina. "We believe that Nefa needs to be returned to the administration of the Majatran Republic of Mina. This is an illegal occupation and the situation in Nefa grows incredibly dire. I fear that these attacks are being driven by Liori mismanagement in the region."

President Ibn Attab condemns Ba'athist, Foreign Minister notes former ND Emperor didn't come to Mina.
September, 5209

Wad Mabelat - President of the Majatran Republic of Mina Ja'far Ibn Attab (ALP; Ahmadi Liberation Party) condemned the acts of the Ba'athist in the Council of the Republic, the Ba'athist walked out on what President Ibn Attab considered to be an important vote on the nations religious sites. The President's comments were echoed by Prime Minister Zubayr Tazi (ALP) and several prominent deputies of the Council of the Republic, such as ALP Speaker of the Council Abdul Majeed al-Momin who called the Ba'athist exit from the session "...a dangerous precedent to our democracy." Regional General-Secretary of the Ba'athist Abdelmajid Al-Ghumari condemned the act of the ALP and their lack of charging several prominent leaders of the Supreme Israic Council for the Ahmadi Liberation in Mina and the East Dovani Supreme Ahmadi Council, the local branches of the Supreme Israic Council - Majatran Struggle Party. According to the Ba'athist leader both the leader of the SIC-ALM, Nadeem el-Shehata, and EDSAC leader, Saabiq el-Badour, should be charged with paramilitary activity and murder for an outbreak of fighting in southern Mina which saw the death of over a dozen civilians and alleged paramilitary members of the Ba'athist Republican Guard Corps and Er Rabat General Military Council.

Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade Abdul Quddoos al-Fahs responded after several months to the inquiry from North Dovani regarding the status of former Emperor Numair and his return to Mina. "I have reached out to representatives from the Interior Ministry in addition to Public Security Directorate and they have no information regarding the arrival of any former or current heads of state or government." According to the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade they provided information regarding arrivals around the time they claim the former Emperor departed and would've arrived in Mina.

Wad Mabelat: The country woke up this morning with gunfire. Over the course of the morning reports of gunfire from all over the capital reached news outlets. While initially the reports seemed concentrated near the Council of the Republic soon more reports of gunfire near the presidential palace, international airfield, downtown and in several suburbs were reported. Over the course of the last few months a conflict between President el-Salam and Prime Minister Hammoud had reached a boiling point, with the two bickering over which powers each of them have been granted in the constitution. Prime Minister Hammoud his party, the National Congress, controls a majority in the Council of the Republic and President el-Salam had thus appointed Hammoud PM out of necessity. But Hammoud had been accused of ammassing more power in the Premiership then the constitution grants it and, with further allegations of corruption, had openly been bickering with President el-Salam over Salam his veto on key legislation of Hammoud, with Salam stating that he would continue to veto bills until Hammoud would resign. Worryingly Hammoud had been strengthening his grip over the elite Republican Guard, which had been put under the PM's office control following previous legislation. Now it seems as if the Armed Forces are clashing with the Republican Guard over control of the capital, with Army generals previously privately voicing concern over Hammoud his growing power.

With fighting in the capital and little information coming out international airlines have announced that they will not fly over Mina until the skirmishes are resolved. Tribal leaders in the north have stated that they will hand out weapons to young men in their tribes as a precuation, fearing that violence might reach their territories later down the line. The situation remains volatile and uncertain.

Wad Mabelat: Army Supreme Command has, after nearly 8 days of heavy fighting, announced that the country has been "rid of corrupt leaders and indescisive leadership" and that a Transitional Governing Council has been established to run the country until a final solution to the crisis has been adopted. Former Prime Minister Hammoud has been killed by army forces and President el-Salam arrested trying to leave the country, with the Republican Guard capitulating and handing their own structures over to the new TGC. The ASC furthermore confirmed that the fighting was between the army and Republican Guard, but that after "several deaths" and the death of Hammoud the Republican Guard capitulated and handed control to the army. President el-Salam, in the chaos of the fighting, tried to leave the country with around 4 million in cash but was stopped by border guards on his way accross the Minese-Istapalian border.

One thing complicating this situation is that now both executive leaders had been removed from their position, directly causing the Transitional Governing Council's creation. The TGC will consist of 5 army generals and 5 civilians, collectively governing the country and taking steps to determined its future. Worryingly the 8 days of fighting caused a ripple effect in the country, with Tribal leaders reasserting their control as central government influence wained and several paramilitaries forming, particularly in more deserted areas, all trying to assert control or protect local areas. It will now be the task of the TGC to maneavour this new and dangerous path forward. Several military and civilian leaders have called for a transition to a federal system, allowing local governors to more effectively assert government control in troubled areas in the country while still maintaining the integrity of the country. So far the chair of the TGC has refused to comment on future plans.

Peace has seemingly returned to the streets of Wad Mabelat, as army soldiers are stationed accross the city and areas where fighting was heavy have now been silenced, confirming the announcement that the Republican Guard has capitulated to other authorities.

Wad Mabelat: Just one month before a scheduled election under a new, partially implemented constitution, the Minese Armed Forces have arrested all civilian members of the Transitional Governing Council. The move was reportedly orchestrated by military members of the same council and led by Army General Unais al-Hussein. It is largely believed that the military was not willing to continue the transition to civilian rule, fearing a waining in their own power. The move is seen as a "bloodless coup" and the military was quick to secure key points of interests and broadcast a message to the wider public which stated that "Elections are to be postponed indefinitely until order is restored and those accused of undermining Mina have been persecuted and brought to justice". Naturally many in Mina were sceptical of the broadcast with at least a few hundred gathering in some minor cities to protest what seems to be a military junta.

Shortly after the broadcast a press announcement on paper was printed which stated that General al-Hussein has been appointed President and thus head of state to "oversee the duties of state until constitutional rule can be reastablished." The Transitional Governing Council, now consisting of only military members, proceeded to also enact martial law in the country, allowing the military broader policing powers and strengthening the authority of this new Junta. Heavier oppossition has already been noted with the Baathist People's Party, which was set to participate in next months election, has announced it will merge its different paramilitaries into the new "People's Revolutionary Forces" and have already declared a "people's crusade" against the Junta government. Reports from coastal areas suggest that this new PRF is already launching small scale attacks against military positions, increasing fears of armed struggle in the country. Furthermore several tribes in the north and northeast have also mobilized their local forces, fearing oppression from either the Baathists or the Junta.

The situation is tense as the Minese military has seemingly taken over government, destroying the hope of many Minese of democracy in the country.
