In October last year, what was described by various political commentators as "an election of a new era", millions of Kanjorians came to polls to vote in the first multi-party election in a while, to decide between the liberal-conservative Party of Democratic Progress, led by Henri Milhaud and Canrillaise Communist Party, led by Samuel Léon. An intense campaign full of attacks and accusations ended in a decisive victory for the liberal conservatives, winning a majority of seats in the Chamber of Deputies, however, at the same time, PPD lost the Governor-General election to the opposition PCC leader Samuel Léon, leading to what will be a months-long political deadlock.

In Kanjor, due to constitutional amendments imposed by the previous conservative governments, the Governor-General has been given extensive powers to solely nominate the cabinet, paving the way for a partisan fight for the government. Despite these amendments being criticised publicly, they were reversed.

The results of the October 5446 election made a partisan fight for the government a new reality of the Kanjorian political life, leaving the country without a proper government for months. Samuel Léon immediately nominated his party's candidate to form a cabinet, but without a proper majority, the PCC cabinet was doomed to fail in the confirmation process and PPD were staunchly against any positive action towards such government, arguing that "a government of minority can't rule a country". Democrats leader Henri Milhaud proposed a constitutional amendment in the Chamber of Deputies to allow all parties to nominate their cabinets, yet the party was lacking 75 more seats for a constitutional majority, leaving the final decision up to the communists, who in response refused to support the reform, continuing the deadlock. Failing to find a compromise, PPD asked King Louis X to dissolve the parliament, effectively announcing the snap election.

The February snap election resulted in another deadlock, as PPD lost their majority, yet won the Governor-General direct election. In the party conference speech, democrats leader Milhaud stated that his party "would be open to a peaceful cohabitation under a communist government", but only if the latter's party would agree to amend the constitution allowing PCC to nominate their cabinet. So far, communists have ignored the proposal.
