Kanjorian government to invest in nuclear, other renewable sources of energy

Retraite-du-Roi nuclear power plant

Atyr, La Tondelle-Silliers (Est) - Minister of Science and Technology Carmen Reverdin announced that the Retraite-du-Roi nuclear reactor, the sole nuclear reactor in Kanjor would be reactivated after being shut down by the previous Communist government. The Minister announced the formation of the Kanjorian Atomic Energy Commission (Canrillaise: Commission kanjorienne de l'énergie atomique; CKEA) which will be responsible for the management of all nuclear-related, research, development and production. A speech before a group of new officials, including the new Commissioner for Atomic Energy, Napoléon Brazier, welcomed nuclear energy to Kanjor as an alternative to traditional sources. The focus on renewable energy was pushed due to close ties with fellow Canrillaise state, Lourenne, being a world leader in renewable energy. Kanjor also approached Dorvik, who is considered to be the world leader in nuclear energy and the development of civilian nuclear power use.

The Kanjorian economy is looking to expand its nuclear energy production, especially after the announcement of a new organization dedicated to research, development and study of nuclear energy for civilian application. When the minister was asked about the use for military or defense purposes the minister stated that research will be conducted but Kanjor has no plans to develop nuclear weapons. His announcement included the development and building of 4 additional nuclear power plants to reduce the load on the Retraite-du-Roi nuclear reactor. It is expected that within the next 25 years, nuclear energy will produce roughly 30% of Kanjorian energy. Some critics in Kanjor have cited the potential dangers of nuclear energy but both the Commissioner and Minister dismissed them as fearmongering. It is likely that Kanjor will work with the Dorvish Natural Resources Technical Management Corporation, the world's leading builder of nuclear power plants.

Aside from nuclear power the government will look to invest in a series of wind and solar farms across the country, linking up with Lourennian companies to build and expand the renewable energy sector of Kanjor.

New Communist-Left Alliance claims terrorist attack in Atyr
July, 4686

National Gendarmerie and National Police near site of terrorist attack

Atyr, La Tondelle (Ouest)-Silliers - According to the Ministry of the Interior a video from the New Communist-Left Alliance (Canrillaise: Nouvelle alliance communiste-gauche; NACG) claimed responsibility for the terrorist attack today outside of the Bank of the West (Canrillaise: Banque de l'Ouest), owned and operated by the Governor-General's family, the d'Aurilimars. The Governor-General, while not currently involved in the bank had previously held a position within the family-owned bank as a Vice President for International Consultation. Prime Minister Armand Baillairgé, Minister of the Interior Mathias Gauthier and the Governor-General himself were on scene with the leadership of the National Gendarmerie and the National Police to coordinate the scene. The explosion outside of the bank claimed the lives of 15 people total, 12 of them Kanjorian citizens, 1 Aldurian, 1 Rilandorian and 1 Lourennian, injured about 40 others and caused significant damage to the first branch of the Bank of the West that had been opened in Kanjor.

Governor-General Félix d'Aurilimar stated that he was implementing Operation: Sentinel (Canrillaise: Opération Sentinelle) which would permit the Kanjorian Armed Forces to operate domestically outside of military bases. The General-Directorate of Internal Security had issued a general decree which increased security patrols across Kanjor; this is the first time that the DGSI, since its transformation, has placed uniformed and plain clothed officers across the country. The Ministry of the Interior remained tight lipped about the potential for a crack down on leftist and communist political organization in general. The International, the worlds biggest communist, socialist and democratic socialist organization, has condemned the attack and has stated, albeit prematurely, that none of their members were involved in the heinous crime.

Governor-General sponsors restoration of traditional head of state
January, 4687

Atyr, La Tondelle (Ouest)-Silliers - Governor-General Félix d'Aurilimar conducted his annual address before the National Assembly on New Years Day where he announced that his office had drafted legislation to restore the traditional head of state title. The monarchy, which has surged in popularity since its restoration several years ago has become a symbol of unity for the Kanjorian people who have suffered what the Governor-General calls a "Second Communist Malaise" a period which occurred several decades ago between 2972 and 2973 in which violence by left-wing organizations surged. The Governor-General stated that his new title would become "High Lord Protector and Executor of the Monarch" which is the traditional title of the head of state. The restoration of the monarchy has caused a waved of nationalist sentiment and many of them Aurilimarist Democrats, the more nationalist wing of the Royal Democratic Party. A recent report by the Zardic Institute of International Studies has upgraded Kanjor to a "...strong economic power...due to recent liberalizations of the economy and resurgence of economic investment and support." and Gath Defense Collective, alongside the ZIIS has upgraded Kanjor to a "...middle military and political power in the absence of strong regional powers in Seleya." The Governor-General spoke of this in his speech before the National Assembly, he called on a renewed crackdown on violent terrorist groups and radical organizations.

The Week’s News
Minister of Defense Rosaline Lavaud releases a statement today announcing the “complete and total overhaul of the current military forces of Kanjor,” noting upon the changing times and referencing past discussions with military personnel in her statement that the system “desperately needs to reform.” The “total overhaul” involves the reorganizing of the armed forces into five branches: The People’s Army, equivalent to the old National Army; The People’s Navy, equivalent to the old National Navy; The People’s Air Force, equivalent to the old National Air Force; The People’s National Guard, equivalent to the old National Gendarmerie; and The People’s National Militia, which is essentially an emergency reserve for the People’s National Guard. A major point made by Mme. Lavaud was the new system of officer positions- now, all positions are elected within the military by the persons serving under them.

3 days after Mme. Lavaud’s statement, Éric Vaganay, the Finance Minister, announced a new budget and taxation plan, which would, amount other major changes, increase the military budget by 70,000,000,000 KRP, a ~275% increase. The Finance Minister went on to state what the increase was for, citing that “the budget increase will be used to purchase military equipment from allied nations around the world, including burn not limited to Lourenne, Dorvik, and Kazulia.” The full report from the Ministry of Finance showed that the money was being used to increase the amount of current active soldiers, increase their salaries, and to purchase weaponry, vehicles, and to massively increase the size and modernity of the new People’s Air Force. We expect the government to release more information on the purchases after deals have been made with the cited countries.

In a joint statement made by PM Currens and Lady Protector R-P-A-R, it was announced that the National Assembly has voted to amend the title of the Lady Protector to “Her/His Excellency, the Lady/Lord Protector and Queen/King Regent on the behalf of the Monarch,” which is a bold move from Mlle. Reyna, to include the title of Queen to her official repertoire of names, whether Regent or not. Yet again, the 21 year old grandniece of the old Queen of Kanjor has been nothing but bold in the first few years of her rule, showing us yet again not to mess with her. We can only wonder what the official statements from Eroncourt will be, but hopefully they will not care what the feisty young princess calls herself.

This Monday, Kanjorien Defence Minister Rosaline Lavaud met with Kazulian officials including their Defence Minister Astrad Stenmark to discuss ties between the two nations and future relations and military agreements. A treaty known as the Kanjorien-Kazulian Memorandum of Understanding on Defence and Mutual Security was drafted and agreed upon during the meetings, and it lists out an official military alliance between the two nations as well as stepped-up Kazulian presence in Kanjor and the South Seleyan region as a whole. What the Defence Ministry officially announced in a statement recently was that in the discussions, officials made many arrangements for the increase of Kazulian rotational soldiers in Kanjor; Kanjorien involvement with not only regional security but the security of the wider area of the Canrillaise Empire; the inclusion of Kanjor into a potentially newly reformed Kazulia-led eastern-hemisphere wide ballistic missile defence group; and future plans for Kazulian-controlled airfields and naval bases in the nation, including trilateral military operations between Kanjor, Kazulia, and Lourenne.

An announcement from the Kazulian government yesterday morning discussed a possible involvement of Kanjor in forming an intelligence organisation between the two nations, to have a solid cybernetic defence. Interior Minister Michelle Massé (granddaughter of the famous Éloïse Massé, a noted Kanjorien official who brought a lasting peace to the country) responded to the announcement with a statement saying: "As a possible intelligence organisation would fall under the jurisdiction of the People's National Guard (the internal military/police branch) in the Interior Affairs Ministry, and, on the behalf of the Ministry, I'd like to state my support for this initiative, and hope that we can make a deal with Kazulian intelligence services to make this happen." Any potential talks will occur hopefully before the end of the year.

On Friday, the People's National Navy unexpectedly launched a new Sant-Laurent-class frigate from the National Naval Dockyard outside of Atyr, which hasn't seem much use other than maintenance in the last few centuries. Shortly after christening the new ship as the NKK Rosaline Lavaud after the current Defence Minister (who was in charge of the operation). Mme. Lavaud and the Chief of Naval Operations Jacques Toreens announced that "we currently have four more ships of the Sant-Laurent-class in production, and following that we have plans to produce three Pesançon-class frigates, eight newly classified Protectrice-class frigates, which are the modernized and Kanjorien variant of the Lourennais Maubagne-class frigates, five new Diamont-class attack submarines, and two brand new and solely-Kanjorien designed Disparu-class nuclear attack submarines, which we have plans to upgrade eventually to ballistic missile capabilities." Later they announced that these new ships would come to replace the current Trebole-class frigates, of which the Navy has 12. The announcement also included the production of new 35 Kanjorien-produced Dimont Rafale-KM's (the K standing for Kanjorien made), to be used for naval missions, 75 new single-seater Rafale-KC's, and 45 new two-seater Rafale-KB's.

In order to fulfill the commission, Canrillaise Defense Enterprises agreed to create a new state-owned enterprise ran from Pesançon, Numineux, to be called the National People's Kanjorien Defence Enterprises (NPKDE), or Kanjorien Defence Enterprises, as a union of the previously state-owned defence industries in Kanjor, the Arsenal Preud'homme Group (a defence corporation who's status of state ownership was in flux), Kanjor Aeronautics, the Kanjorien branch of Dimont aviation, and the Kanjorien branch of Canrillaise Defense Enterprises. The new conglomerate will hav multiple sub-unions in terms of production. The Economics Minister, Manuel Sierre, has listed them to be: Kanjorien Defence Land Group, Kanjorien Defence Air Group (civil and military), Kanjorien Defence Naval Group, Kanjorien Defence Equipment and Supplies group, and Kanjorien Defence Intelligence Equipment Group. This likely means that we will shortly see a joint increase in military and civil production increase as well as a massive economic increase.

After the Lourennais National Assembly found an estimated 456 Million Lourennian Franc increase in assets, the legislators of Lourenne have been non-stop, questioning the Emperor's position in their nation and his actions since he took power. This effect was increased after the Crown Representative, Yolanda Rivera, went on the radio show RougeNetwork and revealed more information on the Emperor's secret dealings. Currently, and after an extremely narrow vote, the Lourennais National Assembly has begun the Regius Viris Process to remove Charles II from his position of Emperor of Canrille. He will be placed on trial eventually, and multiple witnesses, many from his own family, will be brought up against him.

Of course, as the stability of the Lourennais as leaders of the Empire of Canrille is being tested, two groups are surging in Kanjor currently. The first is the separatist groups, that are fighting for either an independent Kanjor, or for the whole Empire to be dissolved back into its constituent nations. There is a fairly large faction of the Nouvelle Union Gauche/Socialiste that has announced or hinted that they would not necessarily be opposed to proceedings that would bring such a separation about. The second faction has historically been small, but is likely to have a tidal wave-like effect in Kanjorien politics with these new developments and the crumbling of Lourennais stability. This group calls for Kanjor to become the seat of the Empire of Canrille, and elect either the current Lady Protector and Queen Regent, Reyna Rongstad-Priorssen-Ashé-Rivières to be the new Empress of Canrille, or to elect her cousin (first, once removed), Princess Gracelyn I Ashé-Rivières, the daughter of the previous Queen to the prestigious position. A fair few influential people in government have spoken out in support of this initiative, including the Interior Minister, Michelle Massé, who says she would support either royal woman, just like her grandmother Éloïse Massé, who was friends with the former Queen Evilyn II. Queen Regent Reyna has released an official statement from her office in the Palais de Brume in Kanjo, stating that she "deeply hopes that this issue will be resolved and that justice will prevail, although if absolutely needed of me I shall not turn away from the offer of ruling Canrille, if only so that I can guide us to the light again." Princess Gracelyn I did not release an official statement, although she told L'Informateur that she is "done with politics" and "wishes for the younger people to take the reins, as they clearly know what they're doing more than I do!" She laughed for a moment before telling our reporter that yes, at 42, she isn't that old, but is still tired of the endless politics of royalty.

A note on the guidelines of L'Informateur: As of the writing of this article, no decision has yet to come about the verdict of Charles II. L'Informateur, as a news source ran by the Interior Ministry, is committed to neutrality and a non-biased presentation of facts for our readers. We do not represent the individual views of the writers nor the views of the people in charge of the newspaper. Thank you for your understanding.

An abnormally large group of Kazulian diplomats and business people visit the country this week, with six cabinet members and around sixty business leaders, to discuss Kanjor's place in Seleya and in the world. Kazulia stated that their intentions were simple: "to assist Kanjor in realizing their economic potential and through that, helping Kazulia's economy and businesses". The Kazulian delegation also asked that Kanjor open its doors to "banks, legal and insurance firms and small manufacturers", and in return, Kanjor will receive "large amounts of economic investment to transform the nation's economy via a re-thinking of the nation's economy with a specific focus on garnering economic growth through the Strait of La Tondelle". In the end, it seems like the Kazulian delegation wanted Kanjor to open up its doors to Kazulian business; something that Prime Minister Augustin Currens, a staunch socialist, has said repeatedly that he is not okay with. However, in response the the meetings, he hosted a town hall style meeting and in it said "yes, I'm still not okay with inviting foreign business into Kanjor, and I'll do everything I can to prevent that. But the thing is, what they're asking for is small, and I will be able to negotiate it so that the businesses that open here are, shall we say, 'Kanjorienized', that is, banks become credit unions, small manufacturers become collectives and have a DWC (democratic worker's council), and so on. So the stance from me is still 'no foreign business, unless it conforms exactly to our rules, which I don't intend it to be easy to do." The Prime Minister later released an official statement saying almost exactly the same thing, reinforcing his message to the people that Kanjor will stay dependent on Kanjor, at least when it comes to the economy that the people see.

The Kazulian delegation's arrival, their unspoken goal to have Kanjor become at least an equal to Lourenne in the Canrillaise Empire, Kanjor's international involvement in defence alliances, and most of all the massive amount of unrest in Lourenne have all caused the growth of three major factions within the Party, all of which are competing to become the official stance of the Party and Kanjor as a whole. The first faction is Les Présentateurs, The Presentators, so called because their goal is the present, the status quo, and keeping Kanjor as the dominant Imperial Nation in Seleya, but not challenging Lourenne's dominance over the Empire as a whole. Their "leader" or spokesperson seems to be Sabine Ducreize, the Parliamentary Floor Leader of the Party. The second group is Les Séparatistes, The Separatists, obviously named, because they wish to capitalize on Lourenne's weakness and align more with Alduria to either have a so-called "Kanxit", a Kanjorien exit from the Empire, or the fracturing of the entire Empire, back to it's constituent nations. Their leader seems to be Defence Minister Rosaline Lavaud, who has spoken out for a less binding, more federal alliance-like system in Canrille. The third faction, Les Premières, The Premiers, have stated that with the obvious evidence that the Lourennais cannot rule well, it is time for Kanjor to step up and take our turn ruling the Empire, by whatever means necessary, whether by legitimately having Lourenne yield the position of Emperor to a Kanjorien, or by declaring our own Emperor, and having some sort of succession crisis. They have two leaders it seems, with Interior Minister Michelle Massé loudly advocating for a Kanjorien-led Empire, because "there are three Canrillaise nations in Seleya, and only one in Dovani, so why should the Lourennais have power over us an ocean away?", and even the Lady Protector and Queen Regent, Reyna Rongstad-Priorssen-Ashé-Rivières, saying that she wouldn't be opposed to being the Empress, even for just a while, to try to solve the issues that the Lourennais have caused, and the far too overly-dynastic the leadership has become. Les Présentateurs have, as could be foreseen, lost popularity and support recently, while Les Séparatistes have seen a boost in support and Les Premières have had leaps and bounds of gained support, all while the opposition to Les Premières have called them ambitious and exploitive of Lourennais tensions.
