Parti Unionist Primary 4955
It has been nice years since the Parti Pour Nous’ Tondellais chapter, known in local politics as the “Bloc Tondellais” merged with the mainland’s “Parti Kanjorien” The Party has lost greatly in the regional and national elections of 4953. It is because of those losses that the Party Council of le Parti Unionist has called for a primary and reorganization of party leadership.
The Party Council has called for the resignation of Ester Dior as Head of the Bloc Tondellais and Pierre-Antoine Silvestre as Head of the Parti Kanjorien. Both politicians accepted their fates and sent in their resignations. During Dior’s resignation speech she said goodbye to her supporters.
“If I had to choose one accomplishment to fulfill before I die, it is the honor of serving as President of our country. I love the people of Kanjor with all of my heart. It is with this honor in my heart that I will go back to my home on La Tondelle. Whenever you need me, I’ll be there. But for now, I will take a break from the public eye.:
Silvestre’s remarks were much the same.
“It was an honor to head our government. I think I can speak for the government at large when I say today is a somber day for us. However, 4953 has shown us that we can have competitive elections again in this nation. I’m happy I could help facilitate that. Now, as I step down from my seat, I will go back to my home and help our party rise again.”
With their resignations comes the call for candidates to take their places. The primary system for the Parti Unionist is different from other parties around the world. Party members have two major votes on their ballots as opposed to one: their State Party Chair and the National Party Chair.
Candidates for the National Chair are:
Marlène Beauvau- Senator from Martois. She came on the national stage with her impassioned speech defending her plural marriage and specifically her marriage to Mr. Martin Spencer, who is her cousin. In her speech, she personally called for Minister of Justice Anatole Brassard to arrest her in her home. The issues she stresses most are civil rights and devolution.
Jean Loupe- Marijuana Buismesswoman from Val-de-Azur. Loupe came on the national scene by offering marijuana to citizens who pledged to vote for Dior in the last election. He was the face of the "Bloc Pot" movement. While his movement failed, he has become a celebrity amongst the youth. The issues closest to him are social liberalism and neutrality in foreign affairs.
Magdelen Chappelle- State Assemblée member from La Tondelle. Chappelle is a lesser-known candidate. She is known for having written the preamble to the Tondellais State Constitution.
“We, the people of Ile de La Tondelle, proud and aware of our history, with responsibility for the future, and with faith in God and/or other universal values, with determination to build a social and democratic state based on the rule of law, and to guarantee the fundamental human rights and freedoms, with a spirit of religious coexistence and tolerance, with a pledge to protect human dignity and personhood, as well as for the prosperity of the whole country, for peace, well-being, culture and social solidarity, with the centuries-old aspiration of the Tondellais people for national identity, with a deep conviction that justice, peace, harmony and cooperation between nations are among the highest values of humanity…”
Richard Dimont- Author from Savigny and former member of the La Tondelle State Guard. Dimont’s book “L’Unionisme: One for Two, Two for One” was a bestseller for most of the year 4953. He advocates more powers being brought to State Assemblies. He believes the United Republic should work as a confederation of two states. Dimont also has advocated a more armed military saying, “The one thing the country’s government should do is protect it’s people and establish itself as a force to be respected.” In the shorthand, he refers to this idea as, “Strong Neutralism”.
