Roux Attacks UPD for Income Tax Defeat
By Nicolas Roussel
September 4234

Image
Parti Pragmatique Kanjor's deputy leader, Violaine Roux, speaking on national news about the misgivings of the Union Populaire Democrate.

The deputy leader of the Parti Pragmatique Kanjor today had some strong words for the government, after the PPK's income tax proposal failed to make it through the House. The proposal offered saw all people earning under 25,000 KPR take a large tax cut, with an extension of the free income zone, from 3000, to 5000. Indeed, the only area of people who saw a rise were those who earned between 60-75 thousand KPR, the group of people who the Union Populaire Democrate detest the most.

Yet despite this, the Union Populaire rejected these reforms, not providing any reason why, and continued their policy of isolationism from both the Kanjorien press, and the Kanjorien people. We still have no idea behind the motive for rejecting this bill, and are no closer to finding an answer, as the UPD are as slow and negative as ever when coming to introducing new policy and debating their so-called reforms.

In an interview on national television, Violaine Roux attacked the UPD for not supporting the poor within Kanjor. She pointed to their lack of policy, a favourite platform of the PPK, and in particular the lack of welfare reforms for the poor. She told the channel, "The facts do not lie. In the last ten years just one policy can be said to have truly helped the poor in Kanjor. That was, as I am sure the government have forgotten, the policy of subsidising public transport for low income users.

"It is quite apparent, therefore, that we cannot expect the government to prop up the poor, and this was best shown in their rejection of the tax proposal. It is utterly disgraceful, and they should be ashamed that they are abandoning the most marginal in our society. To those people who have been left for dead by this government, I urge you to raise up your voice. You have the opportunity to vote for change at the next election. Let us not have this oppressive regime continue to undermine our beautiful country."

These further attacks on the Union Populaire Democrate have been even more intensified as the new party, Mouvement Centriste announced its ambition to get involved within Kanjorien politics. Mlle. Roux welcomed the party, and hinted that they would be open to a coalition with the new party should the opportunity arise at the next election: "Certainly, if it means we get rid of the oppressive government that is the UPD, we would happily work with the MC in a coalition. We backed their call recently to introduce more private schools into Kanjor and allow parents to have a choice, and are sure that we will be able to support them on many new proposals in the future."

Violaine Roux ended the interview with a rallying cry to all those who reject the politics of oppression: "This government is a power-hungry, greedy, and ignorant force. I call all the people of Kanjor who want freedom and liberty to reject this poor-hating bureaucratic party and support reform that will see you get more rights, a louder voice, and a better life."

Government's Cogs Seem to be Turning Again.
By Nicolas Roussel
November 4234

Image
A recent poster calling for the Government to go.

Following the campaign made by the Parti Pragmatique Kanjor, the government have been forced into life, as more and more pressure built upon it to play an active role in Kanjorien politics. The Union Populaire Democrate have recently introduced a debate in regards to constitutional reform, and perhaps more excitingly an income tax reform.

The reform, has however been criticised for imitating the PPK's proposal earlier in the year. Whilst it sees larger cuts for the richer tax brackets, the solitary tax bracket that does not get a relief is the poorest. Further to that, the UPD also removed the Parti Pragmatique Kanjor's idea to increase the Income Free Zone (IZF) from 3000 to 5000. When challenged within the Senate on this matter by M. Emmanuel Delahaye, the Assistant Leader of the PPK, the Government responded that further reform will be made in 4235. The direct quote from the Finance Minister, Mme. Laura Flore is as follows:

The economic issues for lower income families are of course a major priority for our government and we will address these difficulties with the second phase of our economic reform which as said before shall be presented by next year and we shall ensure that as from now every bill shall undergo vigorous debates before being presented to vote by the senate although a clear majority shall support the government to ensure equity and representation of each citizens in the senate

Kanjor is now in a state of anticipation as they wait and see if their government's promise will turn out to be true. And if it does, what will it say? Undoubtedly, the lack of knowledge so far is going to make investors weary, and it wouldn't be surprising should a slump in economic output occurs in the oncoming months.

We do not, however, have to wait for the PPK's economic plan. M. Delahaye told the Senate how the PPK would make the IZF a top priority; "immediately increasing it to 5000 KRP". He also told of his party's ambition to extend this to 7000 KRP by the end of their government should they win in 4237. It is clear from this, that we at least have a transparent opposition. Whilst the government feel a lot less willing to reveal their plans - for reasons we can only speculate - it is reassuring that the (as Mlle. Roux put it in the "Environment Bill" debate) "government in waiting" has a plan for the future of Kanjor.

The UPD also suggested that constitutional change was required. Again however, they did not specify what this may be, and despite the PPK asking them to further their comments, no response has yet been made at the time of writing. This again leaves us in the dark about what the Government actually want to do, and again shows their opaque nature. It seems that they don't care for the citizens to know what their government is doing - something that could be called tyrannical.

So the government is now doing something, whether they will be transparent or not? is something that appears a lot less likely.

Delahaye Remains Diplomatic About Popular Unity Front
By Nicolas Roussel
March 4236

Image
Emmanuel Delahaye, in the Senate, debating the Income Free Zone.

Following the creation of the Popular Unity Front, by prominent businessman Antoine Bouvier, Delahaye, the Assistant Leader of the Parti Pragmatique Kanjor has refused to credit or condemn the businessman for the words he said outside his manor. When asked on National Television, Delahaye wisely kept the PPK's cards in their pocket, refusing to comment on a party who could very well be a future partner in government, if it means ousting the long-standing totalitarian UPD.

The speech made by Bouvier was a speech of two halves. One side viciously attacked the concept of socialism, digging in at its "stagnation". It lamented the broken system, and indeed helped highlight the amount of discontent for left wing parties such as the Union Populaire Democrate within the Senate. The other side of the speech, however, focused in at combating elitism. There was major emphasis on the poor ("working people of Kanjor") making themselves rich, and heavy criticism of the elite who are, in the eyes of Bouvier, are majorly left wing.

When Emmanuel Delahaye was asked about the speech, he approached the matter with some caution, "It is quite clear that Bouvier is expressing some long standing and rather substantial dislike for the left within our country. He has made apparent that indeed people do not want to be ruled by a regulative state, propped up by trade unions.

"When it comes to the poor however, I feel however that him and I view the scenario slightly differently. The reason the poorest remain the poorest is because they are bad with money. They can't just "go take it" like M. Bouvier is implying. It is the government's role to help fix that, and guide them to a more secure quality of life, where they will be able to build themselves from. If you like, it is the government's job to participate in the Free Market for them until they can stand on their own two feet and fend for themselves.

"That is why, we are reintroducing the Income Tax bill into the Senate to ask of the government again to increase the Income Free Zone to 5000 KRP. It is apparent that we must help these people, and a rejection of this bill is indeed quite the opposite."

It is clear that Emmanuel Delahaye is being very diplomatic in his response, which begs the question why. However, for now it appears the most sensible option for the PPK, and a reasonable policy to adopt.

Tycoon Hits out at Bouvier
By Nicolas Roussel
December 4236

Image
Food tycoon, Colette Chaput, speaking as she is confirmed a PPK candidate for the Presidency

Colette Chaput, a renowned food tycoon, and supporter of the Parti Pragmatique Kanjor from its creation attacked Antoine Bouvier at a conference confirming her as a candidate for the Presidency. When asked about her party's stance on the Popular Unity Front, she told us: "Edmond has reassured me that no deal shall be offered ever to the Popular Unity Front. They are a fascist party with just one aim: to control the population. It is demeaning to Kanjorien politics, and makes us look like a laughing stock for allowing people like him to take centre stage.

"The truth is that, I have met M. Bouvier and he is an obnoxious little brat. He flaunts his wealth despite the fact that it is all inherited, and pretends that he wants to help the working class when we all know he wants to further his business venture. He is a truly spiteful man, and I implore all parties to stand up to this bully and put him in his rightful place."

Mlle. Chaput went on to talk about her vision for Kanjor, saying how she envisaged more opportunities for everyone. "Undoubtedly I am one of the lucky ones. I am the first to admit that luck has and will always play a part in my wealth; and whilst I can say with certainty that I worked hard, and honestly to get where I am, the truth is that some people do not have that luck. Some people just cannot get their foot on the ladder. They do not get the opportunity to make millions. This is what I want to see. This is what Edmond wants to see. And this is what the party will deliver if you vote for us."

It appears that Mlle. Chaput's candidacy has boosted PPK support, with polls now putting them at a 7.5 point lead over the Union Nationale Democrate, up two-and-a-half points from the slim five point gap they had originally. Whilst fielding well known names can be a risk, it is clear that this risk has paid off, and Chaput is set to become a star for the party.

Chaput Chosen for Presidency
By Nicolas Roussel
January 4237

Image
New Presidential Candidate, Colette Chaput, is bidding to overthrow the current UPD president: Layla Kosti

Colette Chaput will be the Parti Pragmatique Kanjor's candidate for the President of Kanjor in the 4237 elections, as Edmond Lambert selected her amid a flurry of support for the Tycoon. After announcing that she would run for the senate, Lambert then scrapped that idea after deciding that Chaput was the right person to lead the PPK to victory of the Presidential elections. When asked about the move, he shrugged, and explained,

"As the leader of the party, I will be running for the office of Prime Minister. That means I will be responsible for legislative policy. When it comes the President, we need a strong figurehead, and Colette is that figurehead. As photogenic as I am, it is important we have someone who will not only strike a chord with those within the political sphere, but also with those who do not normally vote. She has great support from Kanjor, and I am certain she will make a success of the election."

Chaput described it as an honour to serve her country, telling us that she wanting to paint Kanjor as a competitive and outward nation that encompasses choice and progressivism. Already, she has laid out her plans as President, saying that she wants to reform the relationship between Rildanor and Kanjor to provide a stronger and more secure South Seleya. When she spoke on national television, she said: "I want the main body of the party to focus on national aspect of this election. In the legislative elections you will be voting for someone who can bring reform to this country and can improve the lives of everyone. However, in the Presidential elections, you are voting for someone who can sell Kanjor to the rest of Terra. I believe I am that candidate, and I hope that you believe that too."

The candidate continues to have a positive effect on the party's position as she holds an unwavering 84% satisfaction rate amongst Kanjorien citizens, and with the dissatisfaction rate polling at just 7%, she has a net satisfaction of a staggering 77% within Kanjor. Despite her popularity within Kanjor, however, that does not mean people are going out to vote for her, as this bystander said: "Certainly Chaput is a great businesswoman and I feel she would make a strong leader; however I do not think I would vote for her. For me, it feels like a gimmick from the PPK to get into power." So, as we enter 4237, with her popularity ratings soaring, the question now becomes will people stick to their guns and vote for her?

"Together We Shall See a Stronger Canrille"
By Nicolas Roussel
June 4237

Chaput thanked the Rildanorian party, Front Nouveau Canrillaise, for endorsing her for the upcoming election in November. She told press reporters that, "cooperation with our relatives in Rildanor will help beat back the isolationist scaremongers who want to hide our amazing culture from the rest of the world."

The presidential candidate, who has rallied much support for the reunification of the Canrille State within her party stated the importance of standing together: "Recently many nations have flung round threats of sanctions, and threats of aggression. Conflict has been brewing, and it is at times like these - where isolationism is growing, that violence can break out.

"That is why us Canrillaise cousins must stand together in order to build a strong and secure future for all of our citizens. We need a free market and free movement that will help our peoples prosper. The Front Nationale Canrillaise stand for that, and we stand with them. Together we shall defeat the politics of division. Those who seek to divide. And help keep the Canrillaise way of life strong and relevant in modern day Terra."

Countdown to the Election is underway
By Nicolas Roussel
October 4237

Image
The sun sets upon both Pesançon, Numineux, and party campaigns as the Presidential and Senate elections approach.

As we near the end of the campaign trail, leaders are making a last gasp attempt to try and persuade people to vote for them. As we approach the most significant election for decades, all four parties are attempting to get their hand on power, and the position of President of Kanjor.

The favourite has been throughout this campaign, the Parti Pragmatique Kanjor who are expected to overturn the current resounding majority that the government hold. Their pragmatic approach and adoption of strong liberal values has made them able to hover over the middle ground and hoover up many undecided voters. Whilst whispers of right wing policies echo around between some more extreme members of the party, it is clear that the PPK, as the only centre-right party within Kanjor, looks set to obtain the presidency.

This, also, has been been due to their candidate - Colette Chaput. Undoubtedly, the highlight of this election was watching her go hammer and tongs with Antoine Bouvier, and it appears she has triumphed in that debate. She was able to turn Bouvier's attacks on their heads, by labeling him Metzist, something that M. Bouvier will be unable to shake off. Furthermore, she has received support from Rildanor, with the Front Nouveau Canrillaise endorsing her as the right candidate for Kanjor. Her popularity could well make the difference in November, should the polls be tight, with her strong and patriotic, yet also liberal agenda appealing to the masses.

Perhaps the most intriguing battle will be between the Parti de Travaille Kanjor and the Union Populaire Democrate. Will the new, more liberal and more progressive party triumph? Or shall the old hand continue to play a significant role within politics? What is interesting about the PTK is its healthcare and education policies. Like the PPK, it takes a pragmatic approach on such issues, and its official stance is to privatise the sectors. This new brand of centre-left politics could have a revolutionising effect upon the result of this election, and they are undoubtedly the dark horse of this election. They will undoubtedly secure enough seats to command a strong presence within the Senate following the election.

As for the Union Populaire Democrate, they must be counting their lucky stars for the Popular Unity Front. The arrival of the PUF has diverted much of the PPK's criticism from the government to the fascist party. Whilst they are unlikely to be wiped out, it is apparent that they will struggle to hold on to their majority, or even their largest party status. However, a recent rise again in the polls suggests that the UPD could still take the top spots, and control both the chamber and the Presidency. It will be difficult for them, as much of their vote will divert to the PTK and PUF who will take voters from either side of the big tent party.

Then, of course, we have the Popular Unity Front, who has been at it with the leading party. Undoubtedly the underdogs going into this election, they easily pick up support from those who do prefer their moral values. Openly homophobic, they will most likely reach out to the more extreme UPD members for their vote. What is peculiar about the PUF, is there belief of a capitalist welfare state. The bizarre proposal would see many industries nationalised, whilst big businesses would still receive irregular amounts of freedoms. Leading economist, Tom Joules, said their economic principles were "one a fascist would be proud of". It is clear that they are unlikely to gain many seats, if they win some at all. Having said that, an handful of seats could cause a nightmare for the major parties if the result is tight.

Members of the Parti Pragmatique Kanjor were making their last stops around the country as Kanjor prepares to go to the polls. Lambert, Roux, Delahaye, and of course Chaput, were all presenting speeches to many eager supporters, who are sick and tired of the Union Populaire Democrate. Isabelle Aviant, a teacher, and mother-of-three who went to Colette Chaput's rally, in Pesançon was clear that the Union Populaire Democrate were not the way to go: "We're not to bad off. My husband works in the city, and we make enough to live comfortably given the circumstances. However, I feel that the UPD would not help us if we ever needed it, and for that reason I feel that I have to vote for the Parti Pragmatique Kanjor."

Meanwhile, in Soulon, Edmond Lambert, who has become relatively quiet in recent weeks, called upon the people to vote for a more progressive age in Kanjor. He said: "We all have a choice in November. A decision that we be a real turning point for our country. This is your best chance of getting a progressive government that cares for you, and protects you. This is your best shot at pushing aside the possessive and archaic policies of the UPD and the PUF. If we all get together to vote, we can wipe out nationalistic, fascist policies that have been circling round. I call for a new Kanjor. A freer Kanjor. A greater Kanjor! Let the Parti Pragmatique Kanjor deliver that."

As the final polls close, the sudden spike in UPD support has made this election to close too call. Currently, estimates would distribute the seats as follows:

Parti Pragmatique Kanjor - 152 seats
Union Populaire Democrate - 142 seats
Parti Travaille de Kanjor - 98 seats
Popular Unity Front - 8 seats

Massive win for the PTK!
PUF make Resounding Gains in Numineux
Coalition formed set to offer new age of Progressivism

By Nicolas Roussel
May 4238

In a turn up of the books, the Parti de Travaille Kanjor has taken the Presidency and the largest party in an astonishing election night. Despite polls suggesting it was a two way fight between the UPD and PPK, the centre-left party were able to storm to a comprehensive victory (+31 seats to the next party) against its rivals. Meanwhile, the Parti Pragmatique Kanjor managed to pip the UPD by two seats, whilst the PUF also performed better than expected, scoring 78 seats.
