Nina Renard and her daughter Elise Renard at a gala held by Groupe Sapphire

Nina Renard announces her resignation as head of renard in favor of her daughter Elise alongside moving to Lourenne to "live a well-earned rest": Granny finally resting?

Picard, Kanjor. In an unexpected press statement, Nina Renard, head and owner of the powerful and influential megacorporation Groupe Renard, has annouced her resignation as CEO of Groupe Renard in favor of her oldest daughter Elise Renard. She explained her decision as follows:
I worked my ass off for this company to go from a local small-sized fashion house to an international multi-faceted megacorporation that extends in every corner of Terra, attracting both the rich and the poor. Thus, i believe that i deserve a well-earned rest in my family's vacation house in Eroncourt because when you work hard your entire life for something, normally you should rest, ain't I right? Either way, my dear daughter Elise has proven herself throughout to be the ideal heir to my postion and that's why i entrusted her with taking over Groupe Renard, tho i would like to note that i will still be active in the director's board but only as an advisor not a director.

Elise has already announced the expansion of the Groupe's potential expansion into the industry of make-up and wigs as she deems that "if we want to truly be successful, we must tackle everything in fashion."

Furthermore, Nina has annouced the fact that she will move back to her family's house in Eroncourt citing that "Tho I will retire from being the head of Renard doesn't mean I'm gonna isolate myself in a castle and call it retirement, plus I really missed my cherie Mireille. I can't wait for us to talk like schoolgirls and gossip about what's happening around the world like during the good old days."

NEW ARCHBISHOP NAMED

Sainte Hortense Cathedral, January 25, 5385:: The Premier, Etiennes Bessieres, met with Monsignor Francois Bertrand in the Offices of the Archdiocese of Atyr thereby reestablishing the traditional point of contact between Church and State in the Republic of Kanjor. Bessieres assured the Monsignor that return to the traditional relationship was the wish of the Government.

Monsignor Bertrand in return promised the Church will continue to stay out of politics and otherwise conform to the traditional Church State relationship and further informed the Premier the Curia had finally allowed the appointment of the new Archbishop to clear all the procedural hurdles. The official announcement of the appointment of the Bishop of Kanjo, Reginald Weygand, as Archbishop of Atyr will be made within a week.

The Bishop of Picard, Maurice Armagnac will move to Bishop of Kanjo and become next in line. Bessieres had thought Bertrand would be going to Kanjo but it seems the Curia felt he should remain in the Archdiocese Offices to ease the transition to normal operations.

Asked by the Premier if the zealous Eliasts would be willing to follow the rules, the Monsignor stated they never wanted to but always did since their education was financed by the Contemplative Monastic Order of Occidentalium which backed the Archdiocese and then they were employed directly or indirectly by the Archdiocese which insists on order.

The Premier and Monsignor released a joint statement of support for the traditional relation of Church and State.

GOUVERNEUR GENERAL ADDRESSES CHANGES

Gouverneur General’s Palace, March 15, 5385: CLAIRON PICARD asked Gouverneur General Maria Therese de Maintenon if big changes were coming, and she replied:

More like lots of little things. We are not going to be making changes for the sake of change. But we are committed to working on trying to salvage the tax code. It is why we are here.

We realize many will say, no, you are here because they left. And to some extent certainly that is true. The reason we want to be here is to rescue the Republic from its abomination of a tax code.

With that said, we must address the needs of the Republic as a whole and not just that one narrow feature. It is hardly a secret our military status has not been examined for several years. This will need to be done.

We will be examining our treaty and alliance situation. We are happy to see scrapping everything from the past has not been done during our several hundred years of decline but Terra is changing and we will have to see where we really are.

Think you are interested in whether we will just be trying to replicate the earlier years of prosperity. No. This a different age. But there are absolutely some things we have lost we should reclaim. Absolutely.

For instance no one wants Kanjorean wine. Or Lourennais wine. But much of Terra loves Canraillaise wine. And we are one of four nations that can provide it. So let’s go back to letting Terra know we can do it and want to do it.

Asked by CLAIRON PICARD if the Gouverneur General title would be changed to President, Maintenon replied:

The way it is described now sounds like we have a monarchy. But Gouverneur General has been in use as the head of state title for much of the time for a long long period.. We will do something about titles over time if the Sovereign People choose to keep us around.

Asked if returning to the old way of having a monarchy was a possibility, The Gouverneur General responded:

It is possible.

GOVERNMENT BEGINS REVIEW OF MILITARY

Defense Ministry, August 13, 5386: Defense Minister Marcel Augereau met with the Chief of the National Defense Staff and the Inspector General to look at where to begin bringing the military back up to speed. The Chief of the National Defense Staff suggested the 5th Naval Air Wing would be a good place to start. The Chief of Naval Operations had stated that if starting with the National Navy was desirable, naval air would be where to start.

The idea is the Inspector General’s Office would evaluate the state of equipment and its quality of maintenance as well as the proficiency of the performance of personnel assigned to the 5th Naval Air Wing at all levels.

When fully operational and at full complement there were 2 squadrons of AB P - 99’s built by Braise Aerospace for anti submarine warfare, 2 squadrons of the Fantome 2000 - 5F’s built by the Kanjorean Branch of Dimont Aviation for air superiority, and 2 squadrons of Rafaele F4.1’s built as a Kanjorean derivative of a Canraillaise Defense Enteprises design for anti ship missions.

It is fair to say the 5th Naval Air Wing is our first line of defense of the Silliers Channel.

The Chief of the National Defense Staff raised the issue of the gratuitous humiliation and Augereau solicited suggestions. The Inspector General suggested overtime professionalism would erase it. This was agreed to be the approach.

GOVERNMENT WANTS TO KICKSTART ELECTRIC VEHICLE INDUSTRY

Finance Ministry, January 15, 5388: Finance Minister Mathieu Montressor met with Auto Seleya and Freres LaFolette management to consider how to get the electric auto industry moving again. At one time a good deal of the Province of Martois had enough government operated charging stations to sustain a journey through much of Martois, but today the government has not kept up the charging stations and the situation is quite different.

Since Auto Seleya and Freres LaFollette still have electric car distribution centers in Liore at Nzurchanga, Yamabiro and Naranpa-Bakundu selling Segmento and Ami models of their Carnot brand, continuing production has generated profit. Without government charging stations, the electric car owners in Martois are pretty much confined to charging at home where charging stations were installed at the time of purchase.

On La Tondellle Island, expansion hopes were pinned on the expansion of nuclear power generated electricity, but during the period of neglect and decay, nuclear power generated electricity has been reduced to power a few government installations and educational institutions so as not to have to shut down entirely.

The bright spot has been continuing imports of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from Keymon by South Seleya Oil and Gas (SSOG) which has its own LNG tanker fleet much of which it sells to Numineux Power and Light for generating electricity and providing heating with natural gas in a good deal of Numineux and a part of southern Val – de – Azur. SSOG has remained profitable and now operates a subsidiary, South Seleya Electrical Recharge (SSER) which has begun building charging stations radiating from Torges which is now the port into which the LNG is being imported. So private enterprise is supporting some growth in Numineux of the electric auto industry.

The question Montressor is asking is how can government help. If the government put charging stations in all of Martois it would to invest a great deal in increasing electrical power generation so the question is how best to hep what is already going on.

Two main ideas have come forward, First is leave expansion in Numineux to SSER while the government begins reopening or building power stations in Val – de – Azur as Numineux Power and Light expansion using LNG makes that possible. Importing more LNG makes more semse than increasing hydroelectric power by building more generating stations at this time in our economic development.

The second idea is approaching the adjoining nation of Aldiuria to see if it would be interested in a collaborative process for electric vehicles in Alduria. In addition to the autos built by Auto Seleya, another possibility in that regard would be electrically powered farm machinery which Freres LaFollette is still producing in Martois and could help its agricultural sector less subject to oil price fluctuation.

ELECTRIC TRUCK AND TRACTOR EXPANSION PLANS

Mavigny, July 15, 5388: Trade and Industry Minister Roxane Marvaux and her immediate staff met with Freres LaFollette Motors management to talk about expansion of the electric truck and tractor industry.

Freres LaFollette has been making small electric trucks and tractors in Mavigny in Martois Province for over 400 years. At one time the government provided charging stations pretty much throughout Martois but that is no longer the case. Freres LaFollette provides a home based vehicle charging system together with setting up a solar panel generated storage battery to reduce impact on the electrical grid with each truck or tractor sold.

Freres LaFollette is also a partner with Auto Seleya in the production and marketing of the Segmento and Arni models of Carnot sedans, the electric autos built by Auto Seleya. A profitable contract the partnership has allows it to sell these two models in three locations in Liore.

Another profitable arrangement that has been in effect for many years is Freres Lafollette has two factories in Aloria one building small trucks and one building tractors. They are marketed in conjunction with local distributors of trucks and farm macjinery.

Freres Lafollette indicated it could really use help with two things from the government. First just promoting electric vehicle use. Noone expects fossil fuel use to end but get the word out an alternative is available. Second, look for anybody abroad who would like to open an electric truck or tractor plant or just buy some. Most any style of business organization with Freres LaFollette can be arranged.

Marvaux promised the government would do exactly that.

ELECTRIC TRACTORS TO BE PRODUCED IN ALDURIA

Foreign Ministry, january 15, 5389: After discussions between Minister of Foreign Affairs Clarisse Lebas of the Republique Populaire d‘Aldurie and Foreign Minister Michel Malfois of the Republique Kanjorienne, arrangements have been made for Freres LaFollette Motors in partnership with Agriculture de l'État d'Aldurien (Aldurian State Agriculture) to open an electric tractor factory complex in La Vallee Region of the Republique Populaire d’Aldurie in the city of Bayonville vey similar to its long established operation in the city of Mavigny,

Agriculture de l'État d'Aldurien (Aldurian State Agriculture) will locate the construction site purchasing or leasing it as appropriate, arrange for licenses and utilities, handle hiring construction personnel and engineering, technical, assembly line and support employees, determine the optimum approach to integrating electrical farm machinery into the agricultural economy and share in the management. A key function going forward would be determining to what extent expansion is possible or desirable.

For its part Freres LaFollette will direct the construction of the plants for the various components to be manufactured including chassis, body, engine, drive system, interior and battery. It will also train all employees in their part operating the factory complex and maintain quality and safety controls until new employees can handle these duties. An important task it will do is install charging stations at the farming operations of purchasers together with installing solar panels and storage batteries to lessen impact on the power grid as well as train personnel in these tasks. It will continue to share management with Agriculture de l'État d'Aldurien (Aldurian State Agriculture).

It is the impression of CLAIRON PICARD that Republique Populaire d’Aldurie will benefit from introducing into its agricultural economy a measure that will allow it to have an expandable portion of it that is headed in a green direction which will give it the option to continue in that direction.

CLAIRON PICARD believes the government of the Republique Kanjorienne is very much in favor of being part of a third entry into the international green economic community.

The primary difference between electric vehicle production and fossil fuel powered vehicle production is the vehicle is powered by an electric rechargeable battery not gasoline or diesel fuel or jet fuel. In this case, a lithium – ion battery using lithium imported from Dovani. Initially lithium – ion batteries were used for laptop computers and consumer electronics. They tend to have high energy density and long life cycles. Early versions tended to be sensitive to low temperatures and a fire risk when damaged. Variants introducing spinets, titanites and phosphates into the production process have increased fire resistance and the life span of the battery and improved low temperature performance. Experimentation in silicon and tin nanoparticles and manganese seem promising of further improvement.

NAVAL AIR WING AND HELICOPTER CARRIERS TO BE BROUGHT BACK TO FULL STRENGTH

Defense Ministry, February 13, 5391: On the recommendation of the Chief of Naval Operations endorsed by the Chief of the National Defense Staff, Defense Minister Marcel Augereau has authorized the Director General of Defense Acquisition (DGAD) to contract with the Kanjorean Branch of Dimont Aviation and with Braise Aerospace to bring the 50th Naval Air Wing complement back up to strength refurbishing and replacing aircraft as necessary in conformity with the Inspector General’s evaluation after years of neglect. DGAD should contract to have that service continue for the foreseeable future.

The upshot is it is expected seven P – 99’s used for anti submarine patrolling, five Fantome 2000 – 5F’s used for air superiority and six Rafaele F4.2’s used for anti ship missions will need to be entirely replaced over a four year period. In the wake of the inspection by the Inspector General, the number of hours in the air for pilots has been increased and ground crew training will be conducted on a regular basis under Squadron Headquarters direction.

A second recommendation from the Chief of Naval Operations was that the Inspector General determine the overall condition of ships and crews of Alduria Class Amphibious Assault Ships as well as the helicopters assigned to them with a view to repair, maintenance and replacement as necessary as well to improve crew efficiency to degree necessary. The Alduria Class vessel can carry 450 troops plus 70 military vehicles including 13 main battle tanks or 70 tanks. Sixteen heavy or thirty five light helicopters can also be carried although only one was ever assigned to each ship..

The Inspector General will coordinate the work of his office with staff of the 12th Task Force in Villebrun – sur – Mer as well as with Kanjorean Defense Supply and Equipment Group and the Kanjorean Subsidiary of Canraillaise Naval Systems.

GOUVERNEUR GENERAL ADRESSES TAXES AND FERALIZATION

Gouverneur General’s Palace, February 15, 5391: CLAIRON PICARD asked Gouverneur General Maria Therese de Maintenon how her program was going and she responded:

T
hink we have definitely made progress in two directions. The first is why Federation Canrille was resurrected from extinction in 5381. Unconscionably confiscatory taxes. Of course we became an economic backwater; what did anyone expect would happen when almost all income is taken by the government.

Corporate, luxury and sales taxes are now about where they need to be support necessary government services without being a burden that is a drag on the economy. We are in much better shape on income taxes but will be adjusting them at least once more.

The other area is viewed as federalizing but that is not really what is going on. On the whole except for a few historical exceptions, our republic is a unitary state. Police, courts and finances; we even have national financing of local government. Some of functions of government have Provincial levels but Provinces do not really have much independent authority.

But there have always been those who wanted their lifestyle to be vey different from that of most other people. When the first Federation Cannrille appeared the divisive issues were over this. The compromise was giving the Provincial legislatures authority over who slept with whom and what citizens could consume. We are trying this again. Why? The traditional norms in the law were pretty much abolished by the regime that preceded ours. As expected, on the Island a much more permissive lifestyle is allowed by the Provincial legislatures while on the Mainland it is somewhat less so.

But citizens still need to look to the Chamber of Deputies for changes they might wish in the rest of the sysrem.

REVIVING THE WINE INDUSTRY

Mavigny, January 16, 5392: Finance Minister Mathieu Montressor went to wine country to discuss promoting sale of our high end wine industry with vineyard owners, wholesalers and retailers in Mavigny in the heart of Martois Province. Villages east of Mavigny are known for the red wine produced from the pinot noir grape and white wine from the chardonnay grape. Montressor had a message:

Like Minister of Food and Agriculture Antoine Fouquet four hundred years ago, we want the government to help put this area back on the wine map. Here in the Republic we know how to do agriculture. And we know how to make wine. And all Terra knows it. Even in places where local fare is promoted as patriotic, their ruling elites want Canraillaise cuisine and wine.

The wine producing area in Martois is fairly small, some forty kilometers long and at places only two kilometers wide. This area is dotted with tiny villages surrounded by flat and sloped vineyards on the western side of hills providing some rain but also protection from the prevailing westerly winds from the Odufart Sea.

The very best wines of this region come from the upper parts of the slopes where there is the most drainage and sunshine. Less desirable and expensive wines are produced from grapes grown in vineyards further down the slopes while the flat vineyards near the villages are considered rather common varietal wine.

So how can we help. One thing we can do is start where Fouquet started many years ago. When the government began its period of decay, it let the Appellation Controlee apparatus go unfunded. Fortunately, led by wine merchants in and around Mavigny private funding was found. And wines for most vineyards near here have been rated and their pedigrees remain intact. So once again there will be one hundred percent government funding from funds appropriated by the Chamber of Deputies to the Ministry of Food and Agriculture. Funded but not taken over. You preserved it and we’re not going to remake it in our image but we are going to fund it.

Second, we will do a great deal of Terra wide promotion. A great deal. The idea is that success means access to the best wine, Canraillaise wine, and access is available, truly available, and not a barely remembered dream. The villages and chateaux here east of Mavigny have the quality control system in place now and can easily add considerable volume to production to meet the Terra wide rising demand with no reduction in quality at all. Easily.

Third, loans will be available for expansion, modernization and overhaul where appropriate as well as public relations campaigns. Generous forgiveness clauses will be in place as well – we want you to join in this effort and intend to help.

It has been along time and this is what we believe will help. But you may well know some things and have some ideas that will help even more. We are very open to your thinking.
