Sigurðsson: Telamonese Man of the 46th Century

Leader of Krossinn Svartur and now Leiðsögumaður of Telamon, Elvar Eysteinn Sigurðsson, interviewed about life, loves, and beliefs.
Elfa Heimisdottir

When I was told that the Leiðsögumaður of Telamon had agreed to see me and speak to me about his history, I was admittedly concerned and nervous. Such an important man, one who has been used to warm receptions, is reportedly highly intelligent, and had risen to power on the back of an admittedly highly radical platform, surely he would be a force to be reckoned with, one to whom any casual speech would be almost impossible.

The morning before my interview, I had nervously ordered a coffee, drinking it between nervy shivers on my way to the Leiðsögumaðurhúsið, the residence of the leader of the nation, as I had been invited into what I perceived as a position of danger. Everyone has heard of the missing persons who have disappeared since the Silicon Party came to power, and naturally, I assumed that one leader, who had shrouded himself in secrecy and clouds of mystery, would be like the new leader.

When I entered, we were checked over by guards - a wise precaution, of course. We sat for about ten minutes, my photographer sitting restlessly by my side, as we waited for a meeting between our country's leader and some high-up party figures to conclude. We were finally ushered in by Sigurðsson's personal assistant, Ragna, who smiled to us, and told us not to appear so nervous as we entered. We saw our nation's leader, standing next to a chair in a brightly coloured room, smiling.

"Full disclosure - I've never been good with one-on-one interviews."

Immediately, the mystery lifted, as the Leiðsögumaður's effortless charisma allowed us to feel easy in the situation. He greeted us both in turn, asking questions about the journey and whether we waited too long. I began to feel confident about the interview. And so, it began in earnest.

Early life - a man growing up in democracy.

"One of my earliest memories as a child was sitting on the porch of our townhouse as a man dressed in a grey suit came up to us, my mother and I, as we were sitting. My mother used to do a lot of gardening, and would do some for other families too for money, and she must have been taking a rest after fixing up some flowerpots, but in any case, the man came up to her and gave her a leaflet, grey as well, and spoke for a short time with her. I was so young then, and asked my mother, something along the lines of 'mamma, why is he not wearing colour?' She turned back to me, and though I don't remember what she said, she spoke with such respect for the man and the cause he supported. I would find out later, of course, that he was from the GaT, the Grey Party of Telamon."

"Did your mother support the Greys?"

"I think everyone in Austurland did, to a certain extent. Of course, I never really knew much about them, but I know that, when they dissolved, sometime after they lost the 4510 election, my mother was distraught, absolutely gutted. For much of the electoral history of Telamon, at least in those days, it was either the Greys or the SDP, the social democrats... I'm fairly sure they called themselves pirates, but we all imagined swashbuckling buccaneers charging against grey-suited businessmen whenever we thought of the elections!"

"What happened after then? Did your mother vote for the SDP after the Greys dissolved?"

"Oh no, never would. Askatla Hallbjoernsdottir... Gosh, my mother hated her. But no, she stayed away from electoral politics after then, for the most part. I don't blame the SDP - continuing on as the only party after the GaT dissolved. But it set a dangerous precedent. And that which came after was no better."

"Rudolf Edvaldsson and the SAHFP?"

"Yes, that's the one. Wildly unpopular, but the only choice my parents had, so they didn't choose them after that."

"Did you know since then that you'd start a party and run for elections?"

"Well, I had taken an interest in electoral politics after that point. Wanted to study it in university. I would go on to, later on. And once the Democratic Coalition came to power, I was sure things were going to change. I was 17 then, but I knew who I would vote for, even if I couldn't yet. I don't think my mother agreed, but by then, I was a strong, independent man." The leader of the nation laughed, "Or so I thought then, at least."

"So what about the next elections?"

"So, 4515 rolled around, and I was at university. I think I was a bit surprised, in the lead-up, that it was still just the DC in the elections. I think that was the time when I started to wonder, 'Hey, maybe this isn't what it seemed to be'. But for the most part, I was just happy it was something different from the SDP and the SAHFP. But all the same, it was not the best choice - not for me. Not for most of my friends. I voted that time, but I never could again."

Politics and Adult Years.

"I was probably only 23 or 24 by the time the Democratic Coalition dissolved, but soon after, there was some degree of hope that things were looking up. Now, I had read a lot of news and opinion pieces, about a party using an old name... The Republican Party, I think they were, and their 'opponents', the Democrats, who were coming to the elections in 4532. It was an anticipation for most people, and it was predicted that it would have the best turnout for Telamonese democracy in a long time. But I'd read lots of news pieces about those. These two parties were definitely not coming to oppose each other, they were basically the same party."

"Was that what started your public speaking?"

"It was before that election, yes. I knew I'd be 29, going on 30, by the time those elections were finished, and I knew that they would not be the 'return of democracy' that was promised. I spoke in parks, at rallies, lots of public speaking then."

"Was the reaction positive?"

Our country's leader laughs, "From the people, yes. A lot of them started to believe me, I think. But the media? No. This was a 'victory for democracy', they couldn't allow me to besmirch the reputation of the parties in question. There was a lot riding on the idea that this would fix Telamon. But, time came, time went, and the party that won 0.06% of the popular vote... Their leader became the President. Officially, by then, I had no faith in democracy. It was dead, and we Telamonese killed it."

"What happened then?"

"Well, the weak parties both dissolved, and a new one came to town. 'The Silicon Party'."

Sigurðsson appears to be on the verge of nausea at the mention of their name.

"I have never liked them. They are not Telamonese. I've always said so. They come to this country, using names like 'Hudson' and 'Kirk' and that... If any of them were true Telamonese people, they were most certainly not allies of the people. They were a cabal of oppressive dictators, and they deserved no love or respect."

"Was that your 'moment'?"

"Yes. By then, I knew that, if I didn't do something, someone worse would. Someone worse would come to power. I started a small movement in Ragnarsfjarður, but it soon joined with others. You know the rest, I'm sure."

"Do you still want democracy to some level?"

"Eh... I think any faith in democracy, especially here, is a false hope. One based on a misunderstanding of history. So I am open in my lack of faith in democracy. I don't care if other countries don't approve, this is the best system we have had in nearly three decades, almost since I came of age. Maybe it works for some, maybe. But it's been tried here - we've had, what, two parties calling themselves 'democratic'? And both times, they've brought us into even further dictatorship. At least I am honest. It does no favours to be secretive."

"The fall of one democratically-elected party led to one based on individual freedoms to the point of its own dictatorship. Then that was followed by false democracy, before another false democracy with a veneer of 'true' democracy to hide behind. Until finally we come to recent times, just this last decade, when we've been ruled by a shadowy cabal. Is truth not better than lies? I think the people of Telamon deserve the truth, even if it's not to the modern sensibilities of the people of other countries. They don't know our situation. They don't know our struggles."

The Ideology of a Leader

After the final question was asked, Sigurðsson stood from his chair. He clapped, and rubbed his hands together, "I'm thinking of going for a walk. Nice day outside, and we have a decent garden. Continue out there?" I agreed, keen to see the garden of the Leiðsögumaðurhúsið, which I had heard was inspired by Sigurðsson's childhood home. The three of us alighted to the outside, the beautiful gardens filled with plants and flowers which Sigurðsson stated were all local, none from outside of Telamon. It certainly was an impressive garden.

"My mother taught me a lot about keeping a garden. She loved gardens in their entirety, and tended to think that they were good sources of moral lessons as well as beautiful achievements of engineering merging with nature."

"Do you think you inherited much of your moral principles from your mother?"

"I'm really not sure. For my early childhood, she was incredibly conservative. I think there is some overlap between what she believed and how I act now, yes. But for the most part, she always believed that democracy would win out eventually, even though it never did for her. A vain hope, perhaps, but one which defined her life."

"You mentioned that she was conservative. Would you see yourself in that way?"

"Not really. I'm a nationalist, but that's mostly... Well, let's look at it this way. When democracy fails, when the international community supports, either actively or tacitly, a regime that wants to keep the people of my nation in the dark, who else can you stand with but your nation? Your people? I have to stand with my nation, and that's what makes me a nationalist. As for whether Telamon is better than other nations... Well, we have a rich cultural history. One which I want to protect from others, no matter how that makes me appear. But as for conservatism, yes and no. Yes, I support businesses and private ownership, but not 'free trade', preferring protectionism."

"What are your religious opinions? Do you believe in a god?"

"I don't care if a god exists. If they do, they obviously don't care about us, else there would not have been cabal after cabal controlling us. If god doesn't care about us, I cannot care about him."

"Where on the political spectrum do you see yourself?"

"As a secularist, and someone who believes in the nationalisation of industry, that probably drags me to the left a bit, but I'd consider myself right-wing."

Personal Questions

"On a completely different topic, are you a dog person or a cat person?"

"Well, I wouldn't actually call myself either. I like birds mostly. I have lots of chickens over there in the fenced area, I go falconing from time to time, and I own a parrot named Fríða."

"What do you feel most proud of?"

"The way that the Telamonese people have grown since Krossinn Svartur came to power."

"How do you spend your free time?"

"I read - it's very important. I listen to music - lots of Njáll Ölvirsson. I sometimes play chess, other times I just walk through the garden and ponder. Oh, and I look after the garden on occasion."

"What are your three favourite books?"

"Hmm... Probably Ásbjörn Jóhannsson's 'It Comes at Night', Gunnhildur Þórirsdottir's 'One Stab Too Many' and Freyr Heimisson's 'Nation and Telamon'."

"So, you like mystery books?"

"Absolutely. The emotional development of a good murder mystery to character is unsurpassed. Sure, a bad one can fall flat, but in a good one, you should be able to see a bit of yourself in every character."

"What does a perfect day look like to you?"

"Any day I can serve the people of Telamon."

"And finally, what does the future hold for you and the party?"

"Ah, well we have plans to continue military development, upscale our economic output by encouraging businesses and industry, and tackling the violent crime issues in Suðureyja."

"Mr. Sigurðsson, thank you for allowing us entry into your life."

"Well thank you, it has been a great experience."

With that, the most powerful man in Telamon bid me farewell. My photographer and I both got an escort back into the city, and on the way back, we reflected on the inconceivable fact that this leader, so vilified by outside sources, was so amicable and friendly.

National Fascist Union forms, pledges to fight for "our Telamon"
A new political organization named the National Fascist Union. The new organization pledges to fight for "the hard working Telamonian people" and fight "the destruction of our national values and traditions"
________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Grænnhöfn: Early in the morning a jubilant athmosphere could be felt all accross the capital. Thousands had gathered on the main square of the city to attend one of Salvar Freymannsson his many speeches. For the past 2 years he has been touring the nation with his message of unity, strength and renewal. According to Freymannsson Telamon has been destroyed from the inside by its elite and people that "have as their ultimate goal the destruction of our beautifull country".

Almost 4 years ago Freymannsson launched his first organization named the "National Renewal Association" a organization providing food and shelter to the poor in urban areas. Slowly this organization showed signs of political activism as its members started to call out government wrongdoing and frequently appeared on tv shows criticizing the "Elite posturing" of some Telamonese politicians. Freymannsson began transforming the organization into a activist machine, frequently visiting several major cities and towns further criticizing the government. It was during these meetings that the NRA leader began developing his logical theories on how the Hutorian and Laamti minorities were accumilating their wealth over the backs of the Telamonese population. He rightfully accussed especially the Hutorians for using Telamon "as their personal money machine" profiting off of the hardworking Telamonese people.

Now, 4 years after he founded the NRA, Freymannsson has stepped down as its leader to form the National Fascist Union. With his previous work as NRA leader he gained a large following and today, after he asked his followers on social media to come to the capital, he announced the creation of the new organization to the public. The crowd applauded and cheered him after the announcement continuing to listen to his grand speech about the state of the nation, how we continue to spit on our own traditions and listen to minorities we should not listen to.

The NFU already stands at over 30% support in the polls largely due to the population being sick of corruption and seemingly endless poverty and with the upcoming elections underway some within the international community look with a concerned eye on the nation of Telamon.

NFU Wins all seats, Social Democrats disband, reorganization of the state announced
The National Fascist Union has swept the legislature clean winning all seats in the recent elections. The Social Democratic Party following the result has disbanded and the new NFU government announces a reorganization of the state
________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Grænnhöfn: The National Fascist Union led by now president Salvar Freymannsson has swept the nation in their very first election, winning all seats in parliament. While polls indicated that the party only had around 40% support the polls failed to count in many rural voters and several suburban districts. With the electoral system of Telamon granting more seats to the winning party this combined meant that the NFU won all seats in parliament, defeating the until now ruling Social Democrats who only got 4% of the vote in total, not enough to pass the electoral treshold of 5%.

The Social Democrats, upon receiving the results, announced the dissolution of their party stating that it "did not have the popular support of the people and therefor must face the reality that we do not have enough support to continue as a legitimate political party". Many within the former social democratic party have even fled the nation upon seeing the results, fearing fascist prosecution.
The fascists, now being unoppossed in parliament, have proposed a bill named the State Security and Reorganization Act or SSRA. This bill has the aim of securing the nation from "radical elements that want to take down the new government of the people" the bill reorganizes the state, renaming it into the State of Telamon, granting the presidency the ultimate executive power within the nation and renaming it into the "Supreme Chancellory" and renaming the parliament into the Grand Council.

But it does not only change several thing regarding the organization of state. The bill will finally ban international media content as, according to the NFU, foreign entities have been trying to influence Telamons political process for decades. The bill will also increase the terms of the government to 6 years, allow the government to censor the internet to make sure that no subversive activity can take place there and will obligate citizens to register their race and religion so that our government can get a clear picture of those who live within our beautifull nation. According to the NFU and president Freymannsson the reorganization of the state is needed to fullfill their electoral promise of rooting out corruption and creating a strong and fair government. Foreign media dogs have stated that the NFU is merely trying to prepare for a total takeover of power, which is ofcourse utterly ridiculous.

The militant wing of the NFU, named the National Fascist Security Association (NFSA), is currently acting as a security force for the new government aided by local police forces. According to president Freymannsson the NSFA and police forces will take over the duties of the secret service and other security agencies "until they are properly reformed and serving the Telamonese people again". According to reports from several cities the NFSA has arrested over 400 dissidents with more actions underway, according to those same reports the people arrested are likely to be vile communists and left wing agitators.

President Freymannsson has also announced further legislative and security changes to be implemented in the coming year as his NFU party starts to exert its influence over government.

31st June 4689
NFU PASSES FREEDOM AND SECURITY ACT
The new NFU government has passed both the reorganization of the state and freedom and security act's, finally standing up against the former elite's
________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Grænnhöfn: The National Fascist Union or NFU has passed several laws recently that combats the corrupt elite and those that want to destroy our nation. The state reorganization was finally adopted earlier this year, causing the state to be reorganized into the State of Telamon with the now Supreme Chancellor Freymannsson gaining both the HOS and HOG positions. The NFU and Freymannsson then proposed the "Freedom and Security" act in the new Grand Council, which gives state institutions more power to prosecute the enemies of our great nation. It gives the police the power to arrest anyone, allows the death penalty for acts like treason and forbids the press from publishing anything without the express approval of the State.

The new laws are designed to finally "rid Telamon from the evil forces within and ensure that our people do not have to be scared of any minority of anti societal force within our population" said Supreme Chancellor Freymannsson.
The NSFA, which is the militant wing of the NFU organization, has, under the order of Justice minister Oddfreyr Tímason, been reformed into the "National Security and Protection Agency" or NSPA. The former NSFA and now NSPA will from now on be the official internal security and intelligence agency of the new state. Tasked with protecting our newfound state from internal threats. It will replace the existing agency and will take over its budget. There are already reports of the NSPA succesfully cracking down on known communist cells accross the nation, showing its effectivenes.

The new law has also caused several newspapers and television stations to be shut down. One of the largest national newspapers named the "Morning Sun" was raided this morning by the NSPA and local police units. Its director was arrested on charges of violating the new law and spreading "anti-state" propaganda. Newspaper circulation of the Morning Sun was stopped and it is expected that the paper will be formally banned somewhere in this week.
It seems as if the NFU is finally organizing its power. As it is creating new agencies to protect our population and creating laws that help us move away from the minority influences of the past we are eager to see what the NFU will do more for the greatness of our nation.

21st March 4690
CRACKDOWN ON ANTI GOVERNMENT ORGANIZATIONS, "DAMAGING" POLITICAL ORGANIZATIONS TO BE BANNED
Supreme Chancellor Freymannsson has ordered the National Police and NSPA to arrest over 700 individuals that have been active in "Anti-Government organizations" or acting "against the interests of the state"
________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Grænnhöfn: The great new State of Telamon is finally starting to look like it was always suppossed to look. Earlier this week Supreme Chancellor Freymannsson had issued directive no.1, authorizing and even ordering the arrest of 700 individuals that have been acting "against the interest of the state" or "operating within anti government organizations" several major raids were conducted accross the country by both the National Police and NSPA intelligence services to arrest these individuals and disband the organizations they were part of.

In addition to the directive no.1 Freymannsson and senior officials within the NFU have started the process of banning other political organizations besides the NFU. A bill is being prepared called the "Political Stability Act" which will dissalow the creation of other political party's besides the NFU, making the NFU the sole legal political party within the State of Telamon. By passing such a act Supreme Chancellor Freymannsson hopes to "ensure political stability during these crucial times and finally rid the nation of the corruption that has plagued it".

Communist agitators and international hypocrites have states that this is simply a move to consolidate all power within the NFU and Supreme Chancellor, this, ofcourse, is ridiculous as the Supreme Chancellor has the best interest of the nation at heart.

A reorganization of the armed forces is also underway fascilitated by the "Military Reorganization Act" which will rename the armed forces into the "National State Forces" with their respective branches being called the "Grand Army" "State Navy" and "State Aerial Forces"
This reorganization and the subsequent increase in military spending will, according to Freymannsson, "ensure the adequate protection of the Telamonese state"
The Political Stability Act and Military Reorganization Act are likely to pass the Grand Council within the coming months

NATIONAL FASCIST UNION MADE SOLE LEGAL PARTY WITHIN THE STATE
The National Fascist Union has managed to pass a bill in the Grand Council making their party the only sole legal party within Telamon
________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Grænnhöfn: The NFU is now, officially, the sole legal political party within Telamon. The Grand Council passed the "Political Institutional Act" late last night finally ending the era of uncertainty within Telamon. The NFU is now the only political party allowed to operate within the State and Supreme Chancellor Freymannsson rejoiced at the news.

It is with great pride that i stand here today. We crushed the subversive influences of communism and anti Telamonese sentiments with the words of law and order at our side. Without bloodshed our people have managed to free themselves from the tyranny of foreign oppressors and internal agitators. Now, with the NFU as the only true guardians of the Telamonese people, our nation can finally start to heal and begin the process of great progress. It is time for the Telamonese people to rise and show to the world what our people are capable of!

The Supreme Chancellor also revealed his second directive signed this morning that the state security apparatus will be allowed to conduct several raids on former aristocrats and their homes seizing assets that are suspected to be used in anti government operations and even arresting two of the most wealthy individuals of Telamon. These arrests and raids only strengthened the people's believe in the new NFU government and many have flocked to the streets to celebrate these new developments.

In other news today the Minister of Finance has announced that the government will propose its new budget to the Grand Council within the coming month, it is expected that the defense budget will be sharply increased as well as the Internal Affairs budget to ensure a strong and stable state.

SGS Wins 4759 Elections, Moves to Expand Telamonese Economy with 3-year Economic Plans
The SGS has passed multiple bills to solidify power as well as establish a joint Telamonese-Davostani Government in Hvítursteinn
________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Hvítursteinn: The new President of Telamon, Annalise I Ashé-Rivières, has announced her intention to do everything possible to end the dictatorship in Davostan-Kivonia (D-K), by using her Presidential power to reorganize the government to officially form the Government-in-Exile of D-K, build up the military force with foreign equipment imported from various nations, and increase the economic power of Telamon exponentially.

To achieve her first goal, a bill has been presented to the Allþingi, outlining the changes of titles to better represent the fact that the Telamonese government is as well the true Davostani government as well. Hopefully support for the bill will be enough so that it can pass, as it would provide legitimacy to those opposing the dictators of Kivonia. It would provide the Head of State to obtain the Davostani titles, as well as applying them to Telamon. Annalise I would become "High Queen of Davostan, Kivonia, Telamon, and the Doyingars, Noble Princeps, First Consul, and Savior of Makon", signifying her commitment to freedom and democracy across Makon.

For the second goal, she plans to increase foreign aid coming into the nation, in military funding and equipment. Currently, most equipment is Kazulian made, and that trend would continue, with reports that the Foreign Ministry has contacted Kazulian leadership about extending foreign aid packages. This equipment, of course, would be used in the openly known Telamonese plan to invade Davostan and restore democracy. Her Excellency had announced that the goal is to double current equipment and manpower by 4765, and be ready for way shortly after, and well before 4770.

For her final goal, the President has outlined a series of "3 Year Plans", for rapid modernization and updating of the current economy. The first few plans have been revealed, being natural resource gathering, resource refinement and manufacturing, heavy industry (including military industry), and light industry. After that nothing is known so far. Those plans would have Telamon on par with the Davostani economy by the end of 4775, giving Telamon the international rank of "average economy", up from its current position of "small". The first plan is stated to start in 4760, with the announced plans finishing by 4775. We will give up-to-date information on the first 3 Year Plan when it begins next year.

With International Support, Telamon begins First 3 Year Plan
The First 3 Year Plan, focused around raw resource extraction and refinement begins, market surges as GDP looks to increase by 12%.
________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Hvítursteinn: The first 3 Year Plan laid out by the SGS in government has come into action, with crews moving out into the snowy wilderness of Telamon to increase raw resource production. Trade and Industry Minister Vinjar Þorkelsson said yesterday in a joint statement with Environment and Tourism Minister Freymar Hjallkásson that although it will result in a hit to the tourism industry and to the environment, its effects are a long-term positive for the natural beauty of Telamon as all methods used in the 3 Year Plans have been approved by a panel of environmental experts who agree that it is the most minimally invasive method possible.

The current calculations are stating upwards of three times the production of the selected resources during the 3 Year Plan's tenure, dropping to a still significant 175% of previous production afterwards. Current resources being focused upon are gold, copper, and timber, as well as other less-widely produced and found resources. Copper production is estimated to increase by 241% during the 3 year period, gold by 175% (to keep demand and price high), and timber by 454%, a mind-blowing value that many experts have disputed. Despite those disputes, with the number of workers being hired and sent out to go logging and mining, it seems as if that value is more likely than we think.

Back in the major cities of Telamon, such as the capital, Hvítursteinn, Álfurskógur, Hvalþorp, and Vanirhöll, the work has been focused in the refinement of the natural resources planned to be produced in the Plan. Initially scheduled for the second Plan, resource refinement was included in the first Plan after the planning committee discovered the extent of the population willing to work on the Plans (2.6 million- a whopping 12.3% of the general population) and included the lumber industry, copper and gold smelting, and basic chemical refinement into the first Plan. Vanirhöll shall bear the brunt of the chemical manufacturing boom as it already contains 31% of Telamon's ₮13 billion Pound industry. Álfurskógur and Hvalþorp will take mostly timber and copper refinement increases as they are the nearest major industrial cities to the lumber plains and copper mines, respectfully. And finally, the capital of Hvítursteinn will symbolically take on the role of the largest gold processing plant in the nation, and its expansion is on track to become the largest in Makon, and possibly in the North.

The current Telamonese GDP of ₮798,649,537,000 has been predicted to increase 12% to over ₮894 billion by 4763, and who knows what will happen after the next Plan, where the things being produced are going to even more profitable for the nation?
