Telamon Morning Post of September 4127

Following the collapse of Grand Coalition, Talemon politics became a true battleground. The socialist party Radical Workers Movement has started supporing National Fascist Union. This unlikely alliance has more then 67% of the congress seats, which makes them an unchallengeable majority. Of course, other parties like Liberal Democractic Party and newcomer Justice and Equality Party were greatly displeased with such turn of events. If that is not enough, another, older Telamon problem reminded of itself today. As you may or may not know, 50% of Telamon citizens are not even Telamonese. 40% of them are laukstuvians (Laukstuvian culture - a culture that comes from Dolgaria (Baltic culture)). So, yesterday, at 1PM, Tomas Linkevicius, leader of the biggest nationalist laukstuvian movement Saules Ordinas(Order of the Sun) was assassinated in his car. Murderer surrendered at the local police departament and stated this:
I did this for the Telamon. Such abominations are ruining our nation. Wake up, people! If we just sit around, while doing nothing, those creatures will take our country away from us!

These statements may not be justified, but the incident raised tension in Telamon greatly and many laukstuvian movements are organizing riots in a matter of few weeks. Paul Grigaitis, leader of the NFU party, expressed his condolences and encouraged these movements to continue their activities. This shouldn't come to a surprise, because Paul Grigaitis (Paulius Grigaitis), his brother, Telamon premier, Vytautas Grigaitis and majority of NFU members are laukstuvians.
While concluding these events, we can all agree, that the future of Telamon is clouded and many dark days may yet to come.

Telamon Morning Post of June 4128
Civil war!
Breaking news: a week after government mobilized national guard army, laukstuvian nationalistists started recruiting volunteer army. A few days later this army overthrew the local governments in Ferene and Sevescia states, declared indepencence of Laukstuvian Confederation (Laukštuvos Konfederacija) and elected Lukas Zinkevičius as their "Grand General". More than a half soldiers from standing professional army fled and joined them. 25 hours length meeting has happened in National People's Congress. As usual, National Fascist Union expressed support for Laukstuvian Confederation and suggested that Telamon should peacefully surrender to them. Liberal Democratic Party leader Mark Paulson called them traitors:
Telamon is currently in great crisis, but NFU doesn't care about that! What are they even doing here? Those fascists are traitors to our nation and their own ideals!

NFU leader Paulius Grigaitis responded calmly, reminding they supported laukstuvians for a long time. But they weren't the only laukstuvian sympathisers. Surprisingly Radical Workers Movements also expressed their support for laukstuvians. Their objectives are yet to be uncovered, but disjoint government only weakens Telamon. And this means that situation in Telamon will only get worse and only united Telamon has a chance to survive.

Congress has officially declared war!
Breaking News:After a long 35 hour debate in the National People's Congress Parties have come to a conclusion on the rising terrorist threat facing our country.
The NFU and RWM pushed for an all-out war against the Laukstuvian nationalists while The JEP and CIP proposed to negotiate with the insurgents.
After a long debate the Parties have decided on a full offensive against the Insurgency.
Although some people are dissapointed that peace couldnt be achieved, the people are glad that all Parties have united against a single cause.
This news did not come as a shocker to the Insurgents, with the Grand General Of the so-called Laukstuvian Confederation Proclaiming:
"We expected a futile attempt by the fools in Telapolis, but the will of the Laukstuvian people will not be stopped"

We predict that this heart-breaking war...will drag on for quite some time..as neither side shows any sign of backing down.

National Democratic Party founded
Led by John Miller, the National Democrats aim to be the voice of the centre-left and right

April 4310 | Brought to you by the Morning Post

SWEET WATER, ANTEPEC - With the dissolution of the Pirate Party back in 4299, the Telamonian centre and right have since found themselves unrepresented by any party in Congress. At the 4299 election, turnout was at 73%, dropping to 56% at the last election in 4308. Now, a new party seeks to be the voice of moderate Telamonians. Founded earlier this month, the National Democratic Party brings together an array of provincial and local politicians, and is led by John Miller, who emigrated from Luthori to Telamonia at the age of 3.

Born to a Ibuthoian mother and a Luthorian father in 4273, the Traditional Royalist landslide at the 4276 general election led to the criminalisation of interracial marriage in Luthori. His father, a successful businessman, arranged for the family to be smuggled abroad to Hawu Mumenhes, with the family subsequently finding their way to Telamonia, where a brother was already living.

It remains to be seen whether or not the National Democrats can capture the moderate vote and gain seats at the next election.

Miller: Telamon today is a dystopia
Miller hits out at university ban, stagnation, and underfunding of public services

November 4312 | Brought to you by the Morning Post

SWEET WATER, ANTEPEC - John Miller, leader of the National Democrats, has hit out at the Libertarian Socialists and the Workers' and Green parties over their perceived denial of the current situation in Telamon. In a speech in Sweet Water, Miller decried the effective ban on higher education and the underfunding of government services:

"Telamon today is a dystopia. Our children - this country's future - are banned from going to university. While the government runs a surplus of four billion pounds per year, infrastructure receives one hundred million pounds in funding, our courts fifty two million, our armed forces two hundred million, and the agencies responsible for ensuring businesses abide by the law less than ten million - how can the Libertarian Socialists and so-called Workers' Party claim to represent the people of Telamonia if they don't even protect them?"

Isveig Leading Campaign to Promote Skjöldunga
Party of Order and Justice leader also wants to see regional languages granted special protections

1st March 4333

Isveig Snjolaugursdottir, leader of the newly formed Party of Order and Justice, has joined a national campaign to recognise Skjöldunga as the national language of Telamon. The National Cultural Heritage Board, which aims to educate the people of Telamon about their history, has called on the government to grant official status to the language spoken by most citizens. In addition, the campaign argues that the largest minority languages in the country, Doyingar and Laamit, should be given official status in the regions where they are most prevalent. Doyingar is a language closely related to Skjöldunga which originated on the island of Migadon while Laamit is native to Davostan and spoken in the border regions.

Isveig has been criticised for apparently promoting the supremacy of the Skjöldunga language although she dismissed this as "politically correct nonsense" and reaffirmed her commitment to preserving the minority languages spoken across the country. Furthermore, the former electrician used her speech at an event hosted by the National Cultural Heritage Board to expand on the political objectives of the Party of Order and Justice. Besides aiming to develop economic and political stability, she wants Telamon to step out from international isolation and develop stronger ties to what she described as "our long-time brothers in Kazulia".

Foreign Minister Blames Neighbour For Economic Decline
As growth dips negative for the first time in a decade, Svanberg goes on the offensive against Hutori

18th April 4339

Telan Minister of Foreign Affairs Svanberg Kristvaldursson has blamed the country's northern neighbour Hutori after new figures showed the economy contracted by 0.3% in the first quarter of the year, performing poorer than economists had expected. Although most predicted economic growth to become negative, the figure is even worse than many expected. The worsening economic conditions mark a change in fortunes for the coalition which has run the country for almost half a decade. A comfortable parliamentary majority and broad ideological diversity between the four governing parties have facilitated a stabilisation of unemployment and inflation in recent years.

The fishing industry in Telamon still dominates the national economy

Svanberg, deputy leader of the Party of Order and Justice, was quick to shift the focus away from the government. In a major speech at a regional conference, he accused the larger economy to the north of exploiting the much smaller Telamon by significantly increasing their level of fishing in border regions. Despite attempts to diversify, the fishing industry still accounts for around a fifth of exports in Telamon. As a result, the worse-than-usual yields in recent months have had widespread impacts on the functioning of growth.

In order to prevent the current problem developing into a full-blown recession, Svanberg's party have proposed instituting expansionary fiscal policy through a series of tax cuts for low-income earners and strategic government spending. While generally seen as a right-wing political party, the Party of Order and Justice's economic doctrine remains somewhat flexible and there is a sizeable portion of the party membership who favour Kodonomics. Party leader Isveig Snjolaugursdottir has repeatedly emphasised the importance of "pragmatic economic thinking" in opposition to rigid ideology.

Telamon "Failing to Make Necessary Sacrifices" for Recovery
Leading economic think tank claims the government must institute drastic measures to prevent further economic decline

26th March 4343

One of Telamon's most reputable economic research organisations, the Economic Studies Institute (ESI), has published a damning report into the position of the national economy, calling on the government to dramatically alter its policies in order to avoid further decline. The report blames ineffective fiscal policy and sluggishness in reacting to a rapidly changing international economy as well as predatory behaviour by economic partners for the continued failure of the Telan economy to achieve stability. Trade and Industry Minister Mariánná Järvelä deflected the criticism of her government, claiming that circumstances outside of the country's control were impacting prosperity.

Image
ESI Chairman Jatgeir Gizursson speaking after the the report was published

A major theme in the report is the lackadaisical approach to government spending under the current government. Despite attempts to increase it and stimulate growth, government spending accounts for less than 10% of GDP in Telamon, compared to a global average of between 40% and 60%. Not only has this prevented growth from reaching its potential but it has also led to poor quality public services and widespread protests calling for increased funding, particularly for healthcare and education. Furthermore, the ESI suggested this could also be contributing to a low productivity rate among the Telan workforce.

Another contributing factor in the economic situation is political instability. The rapid turnover of political parties in the country has made forming a stable and effective government difficult, in stark contrast to the situation around a decade ago, when a broad coalition of parties was able to achieve large parliamentary majorities. Growing fear exists among the population that a fresh election could be called, further destabilising the country. Isveig Snjolaugursdottir, leader of the Party of Order and Justice, has called on all parties to cast aside partisan concerns and promote national unity.

Despite this context of political and economic uncertainty, some are confident. Ninna Kazankov, a Telamon-born Trigunian commentator, says that the key to improving the economy lies in embracing the support of the Kerissian power. On her radio talk show last week, she claimed that "Trigunia is the only international player who will protect the interests of smaller countries like Telamon. Hutori and the others will only support countries like us when it is beneficial to them, as we have seen with their exploitation of our fisherman over the past decade". The Trigunian government still holds a large number of Telan government bonds and the election of President Lyonya Brantov have seen a revitalisation of bilateral relations.
