Fleet Rebuilding Update

May 4429

The rebuilding of Telamon's fleet continues as outdated equipment is replaced by new ships. The program started in 4418 and is supposed to replace 4 destroyers, 12 frigates, and 6 submarines by 4444. So far one destroyer, 3 frigates, and 2 submarines have been replaced, meaning that production is slightly behind schedule. While the new vessel's specs are kept secret, military experts believe that thanks to Telamon's strong shipbuilding tradition the new vessels will be top of the line. Their armament however will most likely not measure up to those of Terra's leading navies.

ODEN-Telamon Publishes First Survey

October 4429

For the first time since Telamon joined the Organisation of Drug Exporting Nations (ODEN), the newly formed Telamon branch of ODEN has published its survey of drug production in Telamon.

Refined Drug Production per annum
48 tons of refined Cocaine
99 tons Hashish
23 tons refined Morphine
877 tons refined Heroin
8.7 tons of Oxycodon Pharmaceutical
250 tons Processed Opium
420 kg crystalline LSD
735 kg pharmaceutical grade MDMA/Ecstasy

Notes:
Prescription drugs, alcohol, and tobacco products are not included in this survey, since they are controlled by other organisations.
Due to the limited resources of the newly created Telamon branch of ODEN, at this time only refined products are included in our survey.

Sigurlin Njoerdursdottir
Director of ODEN Telamon

July 4434

Press Release of the TSMPR Institute for Anesthesiology in Sólblómstrandiborg

A new substance developed at the IfA shows promise as a possible non-addictive alternative for cocaine. The substance with the designation IfA-S4433/317 has performed significantly better than a placebo, yet somewhat less than cocaine. However studies performed so far have not found any addictive properties, suggesting that the new substance may be a safer if somewhat less effective alternative to cocaine. IfA-S4433/317 has been associated with significant gains in energy, focus, and mood while also showing some promise in pain treatment. Further studies have been scheduled in hopes of finding out more about IfA-S4433/317’s mechanism of action.

"New Cocaine" Is A Massive Success

December 4435

The newly developed non-addictive alternative to cocaine marketed as Enercaine is proving to be a massive success. An Interview with Kappi Corporation CEO Sigbert Tobiasson.

Telamon Morning Post:
Enercaine has been on the market for roughly 18 months. Has it kept its promise as an alternative to cocaine?

Sigbert Tobiasson:
Absolutely! Enercaine has revolutionized the drug market. Cocaine use has sharply declined as has the use of many other drugs, while Enercaine has taken Telamon by storm. Currently we are producing almost 12 million doses a day.

TMP:
Enercaine has been a huge success as a recreational drug, yet doctors seem to be reluctant to prescribe it.

ST:
Yes, yes. Doctors are overly cautious. They keep prescribing the same stuff they've always prescribed. They call themselves scientists, yet they are always reluctant to embrace new developments. But we can see that patients are much more open to progress. Prescriptions of anti-depressants, painkillers, anxiolytics, and other drugs have declined as patients chose to self-medicate with Enercaine.

TMP:
What are your plans for the future of Enercaine?

ST:
We are just starting to see the potential of Enercaine. We are currently developing Energy Drinks, and some other stuff containing Enercaine.

TMP:
Critics are claiming that promises that Enercaine is non-addictive are not sufficiently supported by research...

ST:
Sigh... Well, some people just have to believe that drug companies are evil. Millions are taking Enercaine and are happy with it. Maybe these nay-sayers should just try Enercaine.

TMP:
Thank you for your time.

ST:
My pleasure.

"New Cocaine" -- Addictive After All?
May 4438

The supposedly non-addictive cocaine-alternative marketed as Enercaine may not keep its promise after all. While doctors were cautious to accept claims of a non-addictive "New Cocaine" Enercaine producer Kappi Corporation touted the new substance as a kind of cure-all for Depression, Anxiety, Fatigue, and a host of other ailments. Their high-profile campaign emphasized Enercaine's non-addictive nature despite early criticism that their claim was insufficiently backed by studies. While Kappi Corporation introduced a series of energy drinks containing Enercaine critics pointed to mounting evidence that Enercaine may be addictive after all. Kappi Corporation CEO Sigbert Tobiasson has agreed to answer our questions.

Telamon Morning Post
Enercaine is a massive success. But now there seems to be mounting evidence that it may be addictive after all.

Sigbert Tobiasson
Nonsense, nonsense! Enercaine is perfectly safe. Here take some.

TMS
No, thank you. Doctors have been cautious from the start, now they report cases of serious Enercaine addiction.

ST
Don't listen to them, millions of people are taking Enercaine and have no problems. No problems at all. Here take some.

TMS
Really, no, thank you. So you're saying that Enercaine is definitely not addictive?

ST
Of course it isn't! I've been taking it ever since it came out and I feel better than ever. Here take some, it's the good stuff.

TSM
No thank you! There are several studies that have found Enercaine to be addictive.

ST
Yeah, I don't read that stuff. Why would I? If their results are good, that's fine, but what if they're bad? I need to be able to say that Enercaine is not addictive. It's called plausible deniability. Here take some, it's the best.

TSM
Erm, are you saying that you deliberately ignore evidence that Enercaine is addictive?

ST
Yeah, we had that big study in the works to show that Enercaine is not addictive. Turns out, people can't stop taking the stuff. We had to shut that shit down. Here take some, it's good shit.

TSM
Wait, are you admitting to hiding evidence of Enercaine's addictiveness?

ST
Hell no. We shut that shit down. There's no results. Plausible deniability, you know? Here take some.

Press Release of Kappi Corporation
Our CEO Sigbert Tobiasson has stepped down after a mental breakdown during an interview. Leading a major corporation like Kappi is a very stressful job and Tobiasson has decided to step down to spend more time with his family. Unfortunately the Telamon Morning Post has published a transcript of the interview despite the fact that Tobiasson was clearly unwell. The Kappi Corporation and Tobiasson emphasize that his statements during the interview were the result of his unwell mental state. The Telamon Morning Post's decision to publish the statements of a sick man shows a tremendous lack of journalistic integrity and employees of Kappi Corporation will no longer be available for interviews in such an unethical publication.

Telamon to Invest In Kalistan
December 4439

Earlier today journalists were dumbstruck when the Telamon government announced plans for massive investments in Kalistan's floundering economy. Despite having no formal relationship with Kalistan outside the Organisation of Drug Exporting Nations (ODEN) the government pledged to help Kalistani efforts to stabilize its economy. Forsætisráðherra Christine Leonhardsdottir announced a five-pronged effort. Telamon's government is about to make a substantial investment in Kalistan's currency, as well as offering the Kalistani government a sizeable loan without interest. Furthermore the Telamonese government will guarantee for loans to Kalistan by private banks in Telamon. Additionally investments in Kalistan will be one hundred percent tax-deductible for Telamonese investors for a period of five years. Finally, all state-owned drug producers -- which are responsible for roughly two thirds of drug production in Telamon -- have been instructed to reduce their exports of drugs also exported by Kalistan by fifty percent for five years.
