Crisis of Conscience?

Rumors are swirling through the House of Representatives that senior members of the National Coalition Party want to pull the plug on the NCP, Whig, and Conservative coalition that currently controls government. Prime Minister Adam Pollard is understood to be strongly in favor of maintaining the current coalition, however, figures including Deputy Leader Tony Ivey and Education Minister Lucy Peters are said to be pushing for the party to resign from government. Such a move would force President Hiram Blythe to appoint a new Prime Minister or call for fresh elections. With elections scheduled in just over a year, it is unlikely that the House will be dissolved for an early vote.

Much of the controversy surrounds the Family Values Act. Pollard was apparently taken by surprise that such anti-LGBTQ proposals were put forth before the House. While some members of his team, notably, Party President George Carlisle support the bill, Pollard himself is staunchly opposed to the legislation.

Furthermore, because the party advocates for the dissolution of the presidency, there have apparently been been tensions between the center-right parties over the upcoming elections. While Pollard personally likes President Blythe, he has been adamant that the party will not contest the presidential election -- either with an official candidate or endorsement of another party's candidate.

Sources from inside the Prime Minister's Office maintain that Pollard is doing everything to maintain the current coalition. Members of his party seem relatively pleased with the actions that his government has taken thus far. However, speculation is rife that if Pollard were to lose the next election and resign from leadership, he could be replaced by someone who advocates withdrawing from the coalition. It is understood that no members are currently considering challenging Pollard for the leadership, but a poor election result could put his position as Prime Minister and Party Leader in serious jeopardy.

President Blythe answers questions about the Crisis of Confidence in government

President Blythe sat down to speak about the rumors of discord in the coalition of the NCP, Whigs, and Conservatives and the recent call for early elections by the Civic Republican League:

First off let me start off with addressing the root of this whole thing once more, the Family Values Act has caused quite the uproar in the nation. I have said it once and I'll say it again, Whig leaders in the Peoples Assembly should have never put that down for a vote. My party has always taken a firm line on certain topics but you have got to be able to read the temperature of the nation, any good leader would have had a better feel for the legislature and the people. What they have done now is put Prime Minister Pollard in a situation where his party must either defend the Whigs to their own detriment or stand against their governing partners.

The elections are less than a year away so as far as I'm concerned the Civic Republican Leagues call for early elections is nothing more than a political stunt; However members of the governing coalition need to work on what we can achieve that we are all in favor of instead of focusing on divisive issues. For example another point of tension the media likes to speculate on is the NCP's unwillingness to officially back a candidate in the Election due to their support for a Hereditary Head of State, we in the Whig Party also support such a change in the Commonwealth, however we are far from that consensus nationally. Instead we should focus on restoring nobility in the nation in order to build up a cadre of individuals on which a Monarch could reign. I hope dearly that the legacy of this administration isnt one of scandalous division in which the administration destroys itself from within, so soon to an election this kind of controversy isnt good for any of us. We must come together and unite for the future of Rutania.

President Blythe releases Whig party election research data as proof of the failure of leftist policies

President Blythe released to the media two Whig Party research documents about whether or not voters in the Democratic Socialist Party of Rutania and the Civic Republican Party voted in the second round of 4293's election. The move was the latest move by Blythe's reelection campaign to tout Right-wing policies over those supported by the DSPR and CRP. President Blythe said, "that the data is the proof in the pudding, even their own voters don't believe in these leaders who were bought out a long time ago by corrupt union bosses, vote for Blythe and we will continue the Free Market approach that has led this nation for decades into next century. Now we didn't bother publishing them but I can assure you all other party bosses know that the Whigs came out to vote." The Blythe campaign has been preparing for what they expect to be another showdown with Democratic Socialist of Rutania's candidate.

Polls show nearly half of DSPR voters abstained in the second round and more than half of the CRP's voters abstained, numbers that by that margin of error cost them the election.

DSPR's Scott Beats Whig Blythe at Polls

DSPR candidate and former president Arthur Scott defeated Whig president Hiram Blythe in the second round presidential ballot last night, ending the latter's one-term presidency. Having beaten the UDP and CRL candidates in the first round poll, Scott had the second-round backing of the CRL, while Blythe was endorsed by the Conservatives from the first round.

The DSPR also held on to first place in the elections to the House of Representatives, remaining the largest party in the house, with 164 to the Whigs' 130. Despite this, the DSPR may struggle to gain sufficient support from the smaller parties to form a majority. At the same time, the splintering of the right-wing coalition also creates problems for the Whigs, who will be looking to remain in power.

Bennett Corporation stock drops 42% after news of Arthur Scott's Election victory

The Bennett Corporation saw its share price fall 42% after the news of Arthur Scott's election victory in November 4297. The corporation which is led by Albert Bennett the son of former President Frank Bennett made a statement regarding the news.

What has happened today is less a reflection of our corporate performance and more so just the fear of the unknown based on whats going on in the Peoples Assembly. I would like to urge our shareholders to remain calm and wait on news from Vanderburg, I know theres a lot of fear right now about the future of the Commonwealth's business friendly policies but I think calmer heads will prevail and the sun will shine tomorrow, hopefully without a tax hike.

Albert Bennett
Bennett Corporation CEO

Investor confidence has been shaken by news of uncertainty in forming a governing coalition in Vanderburg, both the left and the Right wing factions await the decision of the moderate parties to decide the future of the next four years. With President Scott's victory many corporate leaders fear a change in economic policy from Vanderburg, such as raising taxes and regulation.

The markets await news from Vanderburg.

In other news the Whig Party announced a shake up and replaced current and possibly departing Foreign Secretary Bill Hightower as party Chairman, elevating Winston Vernon to the role. Winston Vernon's seat on the Whig National Council was then given to Albert Bennett, a corporate CEO that has been resoundingly Whig in his views, being one of the first corporate leaders to segregate his company and also opening several segregated private schools throughout the states of Ardinia and Khodor. The news of the shakeup was announced at the unveiling of Former President Elmer Clark statues unveiling in Vanderburg.

RCG Speaks to Supporters about Government Cooperation

Governments for a long time have had to make many compromises. However, in the past election, we saw the majority completely shut out the opinions of both the minority and some of their supporters. This act was met with obvious resistance, as the population failed to keep the old government in power. This term saw an immense change, one that was reflected by an excluded center to center-right wing portion of the country working with the ex-enemies in the left to counter the ridiculous acts of the Right. The government's current structure represents a return to the middle ground, and a term where both sides are going to have to find ways to collaborate and run the country with efficient, non drastic, changes.

Bennett Corp stocks on slow road to recovery

Stocks in the Bennett Corporation which has been a major employer in the nation since the mid 4280s are seeing a slow but stead rise after loosing nearly half their value following news of the election of 4297 and the demise of the previous government which was known for their free market policies. The message from the RCG leadership assuring moderation would prevail this term has seemed to calm investors. News of the expected failure of the DSPR tax plans has also calmed investor fears within the nation. Bennett Corp investors appear confident in the moderate parties ruling influence in government so much so that there is even talk of expansion by some corporate leaders. In the months before a new cabinet was formed rumors flew in financial circles that the Bennett Corporation was planning on laying off tens of thousands of workers nation wide should radical corporate policy change come from Vanderburg or if their business was hindered by legislating empowering the Unions.

Former President Blythe releases tell-all book about 4297 election, blames himself for loss
Image
Former President Hiram Blythe

Former President Blythe's new book 'How to loose the Presidency' will be released on May 1st of this year, copies of the book have already been sent to some journalism outfits throughout the nation. Notably in the book Blythe blames his releases of Whig Party election data for his and the Right wings loss in 4297. In the book he states
If i wasnt so foolish as to publish our research showing how leftist don't turn out to vote then the left would never has been able to galvanize their base to go vote in 4297
In the book Blythe talks about his obsession with finding data on the 4297 elections to see if and how much higher voter turnout was on the left; although the book states no statistics it appears obvious that Blythe found out more left wing voters came out to vote in 4297 and for that he blames himself for galvanizing them.

Blythe goes even further in the book criticizing his old boss, former Prime Minister Royce Blood saying that Blood's foolish founding of the Rutanian Center for Right-wing Reform (RCRR) laid the seeds for the splintering of the the moderates from the Right wing. Blythe also criticizes former Prime Minister Adam Pollard in his book saying that the government Pollard formed cutting out the UDP, National Front, and RP has ultimately led us to where we are today. Even more scandalously Blythe mentions in his book the frequent meetings and how regular the conversations he had with corporate leaders such as Albert Bennett were, and describes how he often sought their advice on matters of state from corporate leaders.

Blythe's book has been widely condemned by corporate and Whig Party leaders alike with Winston Vernon the current Chairman of the Whig National Committee saying this:
The former President has done the entire Whig Party a disservice when it comes to the few excerpts I've heard from this book. Instead of working to contribute to the party he has only attacked and belittled the contributions of others.
