National Coalition Party Dissolves

Following further electoral losses, the National Coalition Party dissolved on December 31, 4310. All 23 members of the People's Assembly will join the newly formed Democratic Alliance on January 1. The new party will be led by Kate Holland. Holland previously served as the NCP's spokesman for Trade and Industry.

Holland has made it clear that the new party will act as a centrist alternative to the established parties in Rutania. She hopes to work on establishing relations with all parties in the Assembly, including the Rutania Party. Relations between the NCP and the RP dissolved in the last decade after coalition talks soured.

WNC Chairman Winston Vernon speaks about fall 4310 election results

Winston Vernon sat down with the Atlas TV news network for an interview about last falls election:

Well the analyst can speculate for days about what the various election results state by state meant but I think the most important and most obvious take-away from last years election was that the Rutanian people gave a resounding approval of Free-Market polices. I think the voters went to the polls knowing their life is better than it was before the Fair and Flat Tax Reform Act of May 4307, the nations poor have been freed from the tax burden. This is why the nation elected Leonard Fisher as President and this is why voters delivered victories for the Whigs at the polls.

The Rutanian people believe in traditional values and in the free market, this election was a vindication. We need to be diligent in protecting all that has been gained, fighting to finally crush the Union influence, and promoting traditional values in Rutania.

Atlas Communications has spent the last two years since becoming independent expanding to become nearly a nation-wide entity. They have successfully acquired newspapers in every state with their ownership concentrating around coastal areas in the state of Khodor. In December of 4309 Atlas Communications launched the Atlas 24hr tv news network, the station has a clear bias against socialist policies and seems to be decisively in favor of Right-Wingers. During the election the stations commentators argued about whether they should support then Prime Minister Leonard Fisher's bid for the Presidency or supporting William Cane the Conservative candidate but questions of left wing candidates like Arthur Scott or Ulysses Hart were discussed with scorn on the network

Prime Minister Winston Vernon speaks about the terrorist attack in Khodor, and Rutania's development of a Nuclear Arsenal.

The Prime Minister sat down for an exclusive interview with journalist at the Atlas News Network to discuss the terrorist attack that occurred only two months after the Peoples Assembly voted in Prime Minister Vernon and the other members of the cabinet. After a rather speedy debate the Peoples Assembly passed the State Security Budget Proposal to increase 'emergency funding' for the Ministry of Defense, increasing funding by 9 billion Rutas. Here is an excerpt from the Prime Minister's interview:

Prime Minister:

What happened in Khodor is a national tragedy, this attack is unprecedented and has shocked us all. You know when after the election during the talks to determine a coalition I was hoping that we could quickly begin work on economic matters, I couldn't have imagined the current focus on national security but it is our national security that is so very important. Our intelligence agencies and the national police are investigating and I believe that we should all feel confident that they will find those responsible and they will be brought to justice, we will hunt them down no matter where they are. The terror of that day will not be forgotten.

We are working hard to pass changes to the Commonwealth's policy to better provide for the safety and security of the people of Rutania. With these changes our agencies and police will be better equipped to prevent acts of terrorism in the future. Our military has begun the process of massive renovations and improvements to ensure that they are more equipped to send a message to the world and to hunt down our enemies should those responsible or this terrorist act be found to be abroad.

Prime Minister, so far the government's only response to this terrorist attack is the increase in defense spending, does this mean that the government believes those responsible are foreign agents or operating in foreign lands?

No I wouldn't say so, we are currently looking into all avenues, I am awaiting the conclusion of the investigation from Minister of the Interior Nikolas Love along with the reports from our intelligence services that I expect Foreign Secretary Tompkins will deliver soon. I think its possible this could be an act of domestic terrorism or the work of foreigners, either way we are doing everything possible to secure our national security and find those responsible. I would like to add that we are also preparing for the possibility that a hostile nation is responsible for this. For some time Rutania has been working to develop a nuclear arsenal, the work has come a great way but after these attacks we have sped up our efforts, we expect to have completed our efforts and begin producing intercontinental missiles sometime between 4317 and 4320

Interior Affairs Minister Nikolas Love speaks on the terrorist attack

Interior Affairs Minister Nikolas Love organised a speech to talk about the the terrorist attack and the effects on the nation.

As the prime minister has said before, this was a national tragedy and I am sure every party with the People's Assembly deeply condemn the terrorists and their attacks within our nation
as we all strive for a better Rutania. I can confirm that investigation to discover the terrorists are under way nationwide. Using the emergency budget which saw an increase in defense spending we will be increasing police presence nationwide as well as investing in more methods in tackling terrorism. We will also discuss potentially raising the national threat level to "SEVERE" meaning another terrorist could be highly likely. We will work closely with the intelligence agency to see what they have to say on this matter. This shows the importance of national security regardless of what is happening elsewhere in nationwide. We stand with the families heartbroken from the terrorist attack and promise to fulfill our duty throughout the nation. Thank you.

Foreign Secretary releases Intelligence Agency report on terrorist attack; report describes 'enemy within'

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs released the intelligence agencies report today on the June 4311 terrorist attack in Khodor that left 34 dead. The 67 page document was released to the press and to the Peoples Assembly. The report reaches no conclusion on who the perpetrators of the attack was but the document enters into speculation of a few different groups. Illegal aliens from Beluzia is the first group mentioned in the report. The nation of Beluzia recently reintroduced slavery for a short period, the intelligence agency believes it is plausible that an illegal alien that suffered under slavery in Beluzia could have come to Rutania and become disgruntled the Commonwealth's policy of allowing private institutions to practice segregation. The second group mentioned in the report are Far-left extremist, the report mentions the belief that a significant portion of the population adheres to leftist ideology and a percentage of that group may subscribe to Far-left extremist ideas, a significant portion of the report, an entire 24 pages focuses on this theory, It goes into great detail describing signs that could point to a citizen subscribing to some of these potentially dangerous ideas. Lastly the report mentions the possibility of a lone attacker who is simply mentally ill.

Rutanian President Announce Sorrows for the Terrorist Attack

I speak to all of the Rutanian citizens today to express my sorrows of this event. My speech today is not to go over what the Government is doing, other than the fact that they are working hard. Today I must speak about the future. The terrible deed committed so tragically is one that we all see with scorn. We as a Nation need to unite more than ever, regardless of our political differences. We need to find bi-partisan measures to address this issue, and we need to do this soon. If we crumble because we can't unite as a country, then truly we live in a sad time.

Rutaina Party Leadership Election

Over the month of April the Rutaina Party been in the middle of a leadership race when the RP's members of the People's Assembly took a vote of no confidence in there leadership. The reason seemed to around Mr. Startton, with many saying he had become to old for the position as Co-leader. In addition, it seemed to be a move by other elements within the party to purge the last sections of the party that was a cause to the national instability a decade ago. Either way, the issue was brought to the parties larger membership to vote on.

Though Mr. Stratton choice to fight for his position he he landed short with only 16% of the vote putting him in thrid place. Ludwick Anderson how ran as well, held his position as Co-Leader with a solid 28% of the vote.

This race also introduced a new kid to the block with 37% of the vote was the young Katherine Goldsmith. A common donator to the party Mrs. Goldsmith decided to run stating: "Leadership Races are such Uncommon things that happen in the party, so the best people for the job should jump at the opportunity when it arises." Many are choking up her Success to the waves she managed to make in Port Seaborg. Historically being a old RP stronghold, the party had slowly been fighting there way back to being the dominate party in the city, Winning a Majorty of council seats but, narrowly loosing the Mayoral postion to the Conservatives. However, it seems that the RP have won back the last bits of support from the city, when Katherine won the backing of most the Unions in the city, poticularly the "Port Seaborg Dock Workers Union" wresting it back from the DSPR.

Considering the terrorist attack shortly after our last elections and the Foreign Secretary's report from the intelligence agency that describes the danger of Far-left extremist I would like every Ministry to increase security leading up to the elections in November. As Prime Minister I would like to see an significant increase in the amount of troops on the streets backing up our police officers and the Military and police should make a special effort to ensure all poll stations are especially secure. Threats of terrorism should be investigated with extreme prejudice, I am instructing every member of law enforcement to use all the legal methods currently afforded to them to ensure the safety of the election.

First Real display of 41 billion Ruta Defense Ministry

The heightened state of security ordered by the Prime Minister is the Defense Ministry's first chance in decades to put on any sort of display in decades. The Defense Ministry has grown slowly but steadily over the last few decades of Moderate and Right Wing rule, but the budget really jumped after the 4311 terrorist attack in Khodor. After the attack the Peoples Assembly approved the State Security Budget of 4311 increasing Defense Funding by 9 billion rutas and making Defense spending more than 1/3 and nearly 1/2 of total government spending. The Prime Minister's office has stated that they 'want to see troops on the streets of every city, town, and neighborhood. Legislation Passed under the current government gives the military and the police the power to conduct searches and monitor individuals at the discretion of the government. Sources in Vanderburg believe that the Prime Minister has instructed the intelligence agencies to also beef up their surveillance efforts, the debate around the Information Interception Act shows that the Prime Minister favors a policy of discretion when it comes to matters of state security.


This all happens just as the Prime Minister and the Whig Party go into full campaign mode with Prime Minister Winston Vernon seeking to take the Presidency after President Leonard Fisher. The Whig National Council has called Winston Vernon the "natural heir to the Presidency" after Pres. Fisher considering Fisher served as Prime Minister before becoming President as well as Winston Vernon's long tenure as Chairman of the Whig Party. The Prime Minister is running on the campaign of 'Keeping Rutania Safe and the Markets Free'. There have been reports that in some conservative areas of Rutania of a sense of paranoia about 'left-wing extremist' with Whig government officials constantly towing the party line and speaking of the dangers of left-wing extremism and the heightened state of security. In places like the state of Ardinia there have even been reports of alleged discrimination such as alleged harassment by law enforcement of minority communities and known or outspoken left-wing individuals all in the pursuit of preventing dangers to the community or the Commonwealth.

Winston Vernon wins Presidency, Incumbent coalition wins in Peoples Assembly

Winston Vernon narrowly defeated former DSPR President Arthur Scott, less than 1 million votes secured the Presidency for the former Prime Minister. During the election there were accusations that the Prime Minister intended to use the police and military in attempt to suppress the left-wing vote but election results show voter turnout impressively over 80%, the nation has not seen voter turnout that high since Hiram Blythe's election as President in 4293.

The term has begun with constitutional changes being proposed by the Conservative Party and the DSPR, both have been backed by the Whig Party yet have not yet gained enough support to pass the Peoples Assembly. Ernst Tompkins the former Foreign Secretary has now been selected as Prime Minister by the Peoples Assembly. Ernst Tompkins served as Foreign Secretary and thus head of the intelligence services is experience that we expect to see this term considering Winston Vernon's campaign to 'Keep Rutania Safe and the Markets Free'. Prime Minister Tompkins has yet to call for a reduction of troops on the streets despite the fact that it has nearly been a year since the election that then Prime Minister Winston Vernon called for the stepped up practice of law enforcement.

Clifford Douglas, former Minister of Education has now been selected as Foreign Secretary. Douglas brings a deep and long rooted traditionalism to the Foreign office, this has been on display at the Artanian Conference where the Foreign Secretary has expressed his displeasure at the idea of being equals at a table with Hawu people. The Foreign Secretary is also married to Veronica Douglas, the previous Minister of Education who served as the first Director of the Rutanian Center for Right-Wing Reform when it was founded by former Prime Minister Royce Blood. Veronica Douglas the Foreign Secretary's wife sits on the board of 4 different private segregated schools in the state of Ardinia and she helped found more than 40 throughout the nation. The views White-Rutanian superiority is something that the Douglas family is very open about. For 20 years now segregation has been legal in Rutania but not since the days of Frank Bennett have members of government talked so openly about their racial views.

The Prime Minister has stated that he intends to ensure the nation continues to devote a rigorous energy towards national security. A focus on law enforcement is expected, there has been talk that the Prime Minister intends to release a new report giving greater detail about threats to national security.
