President of the Republic calls for Truce
Socialist Militia backs off line

President Guttersnipe reacts to cheers from loyal supporters as he calls for Peace

At a barbecue in Kaliburg yesterday to celebrate the April First holiday, President of the Republic Oleg Guttersnipe held an impromptu press conference, where he issued a brief statement to assembled Press. The President's Press Secretary offered the Republic transcribed notes of the speech, which we will reprint here, rather than attempt to decipher his spoken comments:

President of the Republic Oleg Guttersnipe wrote:Friends, all of us assembled, and yes, some people who do not have a lot of basis and ground for trust with one another. The political troubles in our Republic have gone on too long. I have asked the leaders of the Socialist Party of Kalistan to call their militia off the line and send their boys and girls home. We are not resolving anything this way. Whether the other members of the institutionalist bloc follow is their own choice. But the one thing I do know, and the one thing I think my elections demonstrates is that the people are exhausted. I do not think that I was elected to make huge sweeping changes or to hold a line. I think I was elected to provide the people of this country with a different tack in politics. The one which wants to roll up its sleeves and get stuff done.

The Socialist Party has directed its militia to stand down for the moment. They will not disband, and I have not asked them to, but a temporary armistice I think would help us talk to one another. It will be temporary, for sure: there is one or two possible outcomes I see. Either the truce breaks down or it holds and we form the basis of a new arrangement in Kalistan which is based on not hostility that we see, but trust that the other side is not just a bunch of demonic actors the way we've been presenting it. If it holds for a while, maybe we can have a truth and reconciliation commission. It would be a good idea.

I've been approached about maybe sending someone to the World Council. Perhaps it would be a good idea to get their input on the matter. At any rate, this constant warring is not sustainable. So I have asked my Party to put away their guns, and come to Kaliburg in one year for a Unity Festival. We'll work with ODEN and make a GanJam with a reconciliation theme. We'll make it a neutral ground where all are invited and nobody will be turned away. And if people show up, they show up. And if not, well, the GanJam is always a great show anyway. We're also talking to the Brethren in Ananto about helping us out and getting the SP back onto peace mode.

When the President's speech was completed, he opened up to questions. A lot of wide ranging questions were briefly and somewhat incomprehensibly answered, but soon, the President said simply, "Aight lads, let's hit the grills!" and, with a huge grin on his face, proceeded to jump off the podium into the crowd of people, who are not used to their President mixing so freely with them. He was followed to the first BBQ stand and the festival was on.

Van Wyck Forced out as Party Speaker
Entire Shadow Government shown the Door with Combative Party Leader

Kaliburg, Ananto

Former Premier, now Private Citizen Georgia Van Wyck announces resignation on KRTN-2

In what has been described by analysts as a "house cleaning" Georgia Van Wyck and her entire Shadow Ministry has announced their resignation from Leadership posts in the Socialist Party of Kalistan. Premier Van Wyck issued a brief statement to the effect on KRTN-2 last night.

"The President of the Republic and I simply did not see eye to eye on very important matters. I can no longer, in good conscience continue in my post. I will not pursue the President's agenda for the Republic, and as a consequence, I will not be an effective leader of the Socialist Party. It is therefore decided that I shall step aside, to make room for another individual who is more willing to support the President's agenda for the Republic. My resignation shall be immediate." Her resignation was followed immediately by 12 additional statements from the SP's sitting Shadow Ministers which mirrored the language of the Premier's.

There are rumors from inside the Party that the resignation was not Van Wyck's idea. Inside sources said that the President called a meeting of the Party's Leadership, who visibly offered him no support during the Elections. The President asked the Premier to recall the militia, and insisted that peace was a better way to resolve the country's problems than war. The Speaker reportedly disagreed, and the President informed her that he believed that she lacked the support of the rank and file of the Party. This belief is supported by recent right-way/wrong-way polls among Socialists which demonstrate that Socialist Voters opposed any civil war by 12.3 percent. The source said the Speaker refused to relent, and the President insisted. Upon receiving a third negative response, the President demanded the resignation of the ministers. "It was a tense moment," the anonymous source said on the record, "But the Speaker blinked and consented to resignation over being forced out from office in disgrace, which would have caused an internal split within the Party."

The SP will reportedly hold internal elections for new Shadow Officers this month. With the resignations, the political career of one of Kalistan's most combative Premiers in recent history comes to an end.

LDP Primaries to go ahead,Government Coalition yet to be formed !

Micheal Wallace has finally declared his resignation as Liberal Democratic Party Chairman in the Party Congress a Week ago and has called the start of primaries to choose the new Chairman and Presidential Candidate of the Liberal Democratic Party come election time. Although Wallace wished to resign after the formation of a government,it seems he changed his mind on the matter, although Wallace was quoted as saying:”We have proposed a coalition which I am confident will pass therefore i have no need to wait for the official vote and can begin the process of choosing a new leader” the LDP is now going into the Primaries with very colorful characters for potential chairmen. Ofcourse the offical list of candidates will be known in the LDP Primary Congress meeting,We have confident sources which proclaim the following as the candidates: Haytham Kennedy, the 6-year-long Premier of the Republic is clearly the most highly-likely candidate for Chairman as his performance as Premier and his energy makes him a favourite among the younger Liberals within the LDP.
Sarah Furhat, the daughter of former President Ceaser Furhat is another potential candidate which may have a high shot at the Chairmanship, her performance as Lead Attorney for the Kennedy government in the Van Wyck v. Kennedy case sky-rocketted her into fame and she was nominated as candidate of the LDP in Ananto for Parliament in 2522,unsurprisinly she won and has served as a Deputy for 4 years,She is obviously highly supported by the Female-side of the LDP and ofcourse the veteran Liberals who still miss the Ceaser Furhat years.
Ethan Sawyer, the former foreign minister who ran for Chairman against Micheal Wallace however was defeated in a narrow victory may be another candidate for Chairman as He was a favorite of Ceaser Furhat when he was President. However this may be bad news for Sarah as Ethan’s candidacy may split the votes that are sourced by Ceaser’s legacy.

LDP Primaries finished,Grand Coalition formed !

The Liberal Democratic Party primaries are finally over ! As expected Haytham Kennedy won the primaries ! However his biggest potential rival Sarah Furhat decided not to run with the decision of Ethan Sawyer to put his candidacy, Haytham Kennedy won with 61% of the LDP Congress vote and became the new chairman of the party. Meanwhile Micheal Wallace delivered his final farewell and wished luck to the Chairman. Haytham in his victory speech declared a new era for the LDP !
As all this went down another question was answered the very next day,the Assembly finally voted in a new coalition government ! A Grand Coalition between the former mortal enemies of the PL/LDP/SPoK/NCP/UKWF was voted in with a total of 238 Votes of approval. Sarah Furhat of the LDP was voted in as the new Premier of the Republic. It will be truly exciting to see her first big performance and it will be interesting to see if she posseses the virtue and talents of his father in politics. An Interview with the new Premier and ofcourse the former President is on the way !

Interview with the new Premier of the Republic Sarah Furhat

(I)nterviewer:Good Evening readers,Today we will be interviewing the new Premier of the Republic Ms.Sarah Furhat !
(S)arah Furhat:Good to be here !
I:Miss Furhat, first of all congratulations on being the Premier in the new government and also congratulations on being the first ever female Premier of the Liberal Denocratic Party!
S:Thank you,I’m honored to be in this position,as you know i’ve been in active politics for about 4 years now and im really happy to have come this far and serve the people in this position.
I:Obviously your last name holds a legacy, your father served as President for 18 years and is the founder of the LDP,do you think that fact had an effect on your success ?
S:Well ofcourse coming from a family such as mine, you do have a name that preceeds you, however i do not believe my last name or my father was much of an impact because i could be the relative of every single politician ever known but if i dont have the credentials and abilities necessary i dont think i could have come this far,i am a lawyer after all,i finished my university with a high GPA and served as Attorney as you know i was the Lead Attorney in the infamous Van Wyck v.Kennedy case.
I:The government formed is one of a grand coalition,5 parties with different ideals and principles all united under your command,do you feel pressure ?
S:I’ve served as deputy for 4 years now and when in the Assembly you have to argue and cooperate with alot more then 5 parties when making decisions etc. So i dont feel pressure but its not an easy job obviously.
I:Do you believe that you will have good relations with the President and your new Chairman ?
S:I have known Haytham for a long time so we are in total cooperation within the Party and thats not a problem,When it comes to the President,i dont see why not !
I:Did your father Mr.Ceaser talk to you after your Premiership passed Parliament ?
S:Yes he did,He was very emotional *laughs* and uhh.he congratulated me,he said that he is very proud of me and that whenever i need him he was there to help.
I:That’s sweet
S:He is a very sweet man.
I:I’m going to ask a personal question now to close it. You are not married and you are i believe 28 years old,İs there a candidate out there ?
S:*laughs* Sort of. You will know soon but we dont want to rush things, right now my father, mother and his father and mother knows other then that we are keeping things under wraps but you will know soon enough.
I:Ms.Premier thank you for your time !
S:Thank you for having me !

Guttersnipe Renews calls for Modernization, Nationalization
Limited Nationalization Bill aims to Rebuild Strategic Reserves for the Republic

Kaliburg, Ananto
September 8, 4526

Image
President Guttersnipe to push strong legislative initiatives

Having narrowly won the Presidential Election of 4525, and set a course for cooperation with other Parties in Government, the President of the Republic has now begun to work with Socialist Deputies to craft legislation that aims at restoring Kalistani National Strategic Reserves and paves the way for a renewed push to modernize the military.

"We asked Speaker Godiva to move this important legislation through the Assembly," read the transcript of the President's remarks. "In the bill, the Socialists proposed a nationalization not to interfere with the operation of the economy so much as to address national needs. The aim here is not to crush down capitalism, but to make it work for the society. The bill I think is an important compromise that allows for the private sector to manage distribution to the public of the Nationalized materials, but also ensures that they are there to be distributed. It also includes important price controls to ensure that Kalistani citizens can always get new cars and tanks of petrol and whatnot, without them breaking their piggybanks of their little children," Guttersnipe said. "This measure sets the stage for renewed strength in Kalistan's stagnant economy and renewed security for the Republic against foreign interests who have already declared their intention to make our nation into a virtual colony.. So the sooner we get on it, the better off we will all be."

The active role taken by the President in direction of Socialist Party affairs underscores the previously reported lack of faith in the former Van Wyck leadership team, and the desire to work together. This later desire was demonstrated in independent by consonant messages sent to Valruzia in response to their interest in intervening in Kalistan's domestic affairs following the decrease in tensions. The President is taking a definitive stance than former Socialist Leaders, and appears to reinstill the Presidency with some authority which it had lost following the reform of the Prerogative. "The President of the Republic is the Head of State of this Republic," said political scientist Deann Guerrero, of the University of Kalibrug. "It is correct that he should lead in matters of foreign affairs. That the response by the Premier was virtually equivalent in content to the President's is quite promising for the success of this government, which is something the people of Kalistan have long sought. The cooperation at this point is still tenuous, but each success further strengthens prospects for the future."

President sends Diplomats to Lourenne
Seeks Assistance with Modernization, Trade

Kaliburg, Ananto
November 8, 4526

Image
Representatives of the President and Foreign Minister travel to Eroncourt

Positive feedback from the Government of Lourenne has opened a door to Kalistani Cooperation with the Kingdom next door. Foreign Ministry Spokesman Gerard Reed said "We have had positive signals from Lourenne toward both weapons sales and foreign investment in our industries. When the Nationalization bills pass and the new Corporations are chartered, a reliable source of capital investment will be most welcomed, to ensure that the former owners are fully compensated, and the Industries are fully capitalized to allow them to begin operating efficiently. This is an excellent opportunity to draw the two Anantonese Nations closer together."

The delegation, which consists primarily of section heads from the Foreign Ministry, Representatives of the National Defense Consortium, as well as the Undersecretary for Dovani from the Foreign Ministry, and the Special Representative of the President of the Republic, Jill "Rainbow" Hermosa, is expected to negotiate weapon sales and FDI with Kalistan over the next month. After most high level talks are finished, a small team will remain in the Capital to continue talks and oversea execution of the deal.

Relations with Lourenne have shown promise over the last year, and this overture is seen by President watchers as gratitude for Lourenne's willingness to intervene in support of Kalistani Liberty and security in the recent conflict. Said Reed: "The President of the Republic welcomes closer relations with Lourenne, and would like to establish a more permanent and cordial relationship with the Canrillaise Monarchy, and its Monarch, King Phillip the One."

Interview with David Marley: Vanuku to return to Bozo River CATC
4th Fleet will begin relocation within weeks

Bozo City, Ananto
January 15, 4527

Image
Foreign Minister David Marley is currently in negotiations with several powers around Terra

The Kalistan Republic recently sat down with newly confirmed Foreign Minister, Socialist David Marley to talk about the diplomatic efforts of the Government of Kalistan.

(Republic reporter) C(atherine) G(eorge): Hello Comrade Foreign Minister.

D(avid) M(arley): Hello young lady.

CG: It has been a while since a Socialist has served in the Foreign Ministry. What has changed since you took office?

DM: Well, the President has stated that a number of priorities have been unmet, mainly military modernization, which the President hopes to get on the road very soon, as well as re-establishing firm diplomatic links with our neighbors and old friends. He was impressed at how quickly the recent internal conflict in Kalistan became internationalized and wants to make sure, while he has the chance that this does not happen again. The way we do this is to ensure that Kalistan is strong, and those those who wish to take advantage of our moments of growing pains, as he says, do not feel emboldened to do so.

CG: You announced that you had some news?

DM: Yes, I have been asked to announce that the Defense Minister, working with myself and the President, have concluded an arrangement to first of all base the 4th Fleet of the Kingdom of Vanuku at Bozo River. The students of now semi-ancient history will note that the base was originally built to house the Vanukean 4th Fleet more than 100 years ago, but they were kicked out due to an unfortunate decision their government made to irradiate Jelbania. All actors in that tragedy are now long dead and turned to bone, and so it is possible for us to consider welcoming the 4th Fleet home to Bozo River. This will coincide nicely with the purchase of plans to rebuild our navy and to greatly augment our land and air force.

CG: Can you give us some of the details of the deal?

DM: Yes, the Old Status of Forces Agreement was re-established which would allow them to operate from Bozo River. The only restrictions we placed in the SOFA were that their nationals did not enjoy any extraterritoriality while on Kalistani soil, in that they are to be judged by Kalistani law while they are in port, and any time they engage in matters which would directly and adversely affect Kalistani Interests FROM the Bozo River facility, they consult with the Kalistani Government prior to taking action, so we can weigh in on the matter. Neither of these provisions touches or diminishes the sovereign rights of Vanuku, but it allows for a modus vivendi with a power which is far more active globally than we are, and provides the opportunity for us to reap the security benefits of association with Vanuku.

CG: Are there features other than basing which were part of the agreement?

DM: As a matter of fact there were. Prior to the conflict which sort of shut down everything, our main defense Industry, the National Defense Consortium, had worked out an agreement with the Company VanuTech for the transfer of schematics and technical knowledge of several last gen weapons in Vanuku's national arsenal. The thinking was that Kalistan could either buy weapons, as it is seeking to do now from Lourenne, or it can begin producing its own. We have engineers in Kalistan, though the military engineering side of the discipline has been sorely under utilized and therefore has all but dried up in recent decades. We have a national ship yard which has been unused for decades now, since privatization of its precursors, and so we figure, with nationalization looming, it will be an excellent time to procure these blueprints and begin building and modifying them for our own needs, utilizing modern technology which we currently possess. The National Defense Consortium was in the process of getting capital together for the purchases when the conflict broke out and put a halt to all that sort of activity. Now, with Nationalization all but a done deal, the matter will become a Republican matter, and purchase will be no issue. We are also still working on procuring armor from Keymon but that was paused too.

CG: Will this move upset others in the region?

DM: It is hard to say, but if it does, we beg them to remember: Kalistan looks to its own interests first. Just as we would expect any other nation to do. Where our interests collide with the interests of another nation, it is our own that we pursue. We are willing to be friends with all other nations on the Globe. But they must never seek to get Kalistan to promote their own National interests over ours. Because we never will. Even if something is in the interests of the whole rest of the world, but it is not in the Interests of Kalistan, we will still promote our interests first. So if other nations wish to deal with Kalistan, they must remember this. As a life long Kalistani, we are taught in schools, regardless of who is in power: The entire world is Kalistani, they just do not know it yet. You could say Kalistan is very catholic in this fashion. SO we welcome all efforts to deal with us, but please do not attempt to dictate to us that which is not in our interest.

CG: Strong sentiments, Comrade Foreign Minister.

DM: This is true. But we have neighbors who try to push us around far too often. If those countries would instead deal with the Kalistan which is rather than the Kalistan which they think we should be, we would have no problem whatsoever.

CG: Indeed. Thank you for your time, Comrade Marley.

DM: Thank you for your time, Comrade George. And my greetings to your new editor in chief, Maxine. She and I were great friends in school.

CG: I'll let her know you said hello.

DM: Thank you.

Coastal Vrassa Peacekeeping Area Officially Ends, Keymon Government Hands Over Executive Power

November 19th, 4526
——————————————————————————————————————————————————
The Coastal Vrassa Peacekeeping Area has officially dissolved, as the local Legislative Assmebly has voluntarily dissolved itself.

A ceremony was held in Vrassa City, the unofficial capital of Coastal Vrassa. The ceremony was attended by the President of the Kalistan and Keymon Republics, Ministers of Foreign Affairs from both Republics, the Lead Speaker from the Coastal Vrassa Legislative Assembly and several senators from Keymon.

The President of Kalistan, Oleg Guttersnipe, made a speech at the ceremony surrounding the “reunification” with Coastal Vrassa.

Image

Blimey! To da people ov Coastal Vrassa, we respect yew an' vank yew fer bein' such great people.

Kalistan 'as ended its civil strife an' da Keymon governmen' 'as agreed ter end it’s tempawary peacekeepin' mission in Kalistan.

You 'ave always been Kalistani citizens, yet a tempawary division needed ter be constructed fer da safe'y ov you.

So now, yew shall be fully in'egrated in'er Kalistan an' become full fledged Kalistani’s once mawer. Nuff said, yeah?

The Kalistani Presidents speech caused rounding applause, to which the Keymon President spoke.

Image

We thank the Kalistani side for respecting and highlighting our noble reason for this intervention. We intervened and risked the life’s of our soldiers for the Kalistani people. To defend them. And to protect them.

We thank the people of Kalistan for there understanding and cooperation with our forces and there continued preservation of diplomatic and social change.

We shall now wish you a great day and welcome Kalistani rule back to the area.

The Keymon President was met with a mix of boos and applause.

Several other speeches were made by the foreign ministers and other important officials.

Once the speeches had ended, the Coastal Vrassa Police Department’s Police Chief co-signed a bill to officially dissolve the police force.

Afterwards, the ceremonial lowering of the Keymon and Coastal Vrassa flag occurred, both being replaced by the Kalistani flag.

We asked locals of there opinions on the ceremony.

One women said-“I believe this was a great ceremony and a respectful way to change hands of the area to Kalistan”.

Another women said-“I’m glad the neocolonialist of keymon is gone. However we must continue to try and stop continued Keymon efforts”.

Similarly, the rest of the area is divided upon whether this was a peacekeeping mission, an occupation, or neocolonialist attempt.

However one thing is certain, a chapter of Keymon and Kalistan history is coming to an end.
