John Henry Bennots named to succeed Hashimoto
Suldanor Businessman vows continuity

Bennots accepts the mantle of Party Leader at SPoK's Spring Convention in Kaliburg

Businessman John Henry Bennots was acclaimed "Speaker of the Socialist Party" at the SP's recent Convention to replace the retiring Abe Hashimoto. Bennots comes from a family long associated with Socialist Politics in Kalistan. Most recently, his cousin, Michelle Marks-Bennots became CEO of the successful firm KalMM in Kalistan. Before that, his great aunt, Blythe Johnson-Bennots served at President of the Republic.

John Henry Bennots, who is 59, has thus far been successful at not following in the footsteps of his family's traditional occupation. But when he was invited to speak to the Convention this Spring, whose primary task was to find a replacement for Party Leader Abe Hashimoto, his words excited a significant portion of the gathered delegates, who promptly launched a successful effort to draft Bennots to serve. Two days later, Bennots was named "Party Speaker" by acclamation, and will be entered into the election in Suldanor's contest, as name 1 on the list.

Bennots' acceptance speech hinted at what sort of direction he will lead the Party.

John Henry Bennots wrote:"I am deeply humbled by the Convention's faith in me. My Brethrenist faith tells me that I should say little and listen a lot. If you will indulge me a moment, I think I owe it to the delegates here gathered here to say a few words about the way I think we ought conduct ourselves as a Party. First, we should make friends and try to govern as equal partners. We will not win all the elections, but we don't need to. I am especially proud of the association the Party has with the Conservatives. Protecting Kalistan's Institutions, the pillars which make our nation strong, more than all the bombs and ships we could ever make, will be my first and foremost goal, like it was my friend Abe's.

"We should not be afraid to support private sector growth. Nothing should dampen our fervor for the Dual Economy, but I think too often, the Socialist Party has prioritized the Public Sector, while private sector actors have shown the prosperity and quality of life which can come once human need is satisfied. People not only need to eat: Sometimes they like to watch tv too. Someone needs to make those tvs. Sometimes people like to float around in a pool... I don't know. I'm just throwing ideas out here, but someone needs to make those pools. Nobody needs a pool, and not everyone wants one, but for those who do, Kalistan needs a private sector to make them.

"At the same time, we should not erode the social contract we have with our workers. I am a businessman. My job is turning a profit for my shareholders. But that doesn't mean I need to do it unethically. We can make plenty of money and protect workers' rights. My prosperity is tied to the prosperity of those who work for me. To this, I feel it is my obligation, as a matter of fact, every employer's obligation to act ethically, toward our co-workers, and toward society as well. We can pay our workers well, we can protect their right to collectively bargain, and yes, even to strike, for better conditions. And meanwhile, it doesn't cost us much to let workers make decisions with us.

"While I am on the topic of ethical conduct of business, we also have an obligation to keep our air and water clean.

"Finally, we renew our commitment to social equality, which is the hallmark of Kalistani society. There are not two sets of rights or two sets of responsibilities to society. There is only one set of laws, for foreigners and Kalistani Nationals alike, while in the sovereign Republic. One set of laws for men and women, an every other way nature has attempted to divide people. But in all of us, there is that spark of God, which we recognize in one another when we show each other respect. We do this for all humanity, not just those lucky enough to have been born in Kalistan. I am a nationalist: I believe that Kalistan represents the apex of human social and political development. But humanity is made of the same clay. So we should not promote discriminatory laws, not in any sense of the word."

Bennots finished his remarks guaranteeing continuity between Hashimoto's government and his own should he be lucky enough to be put into the Premier's seat. He seeks to continue to expand Kalistan's consumer good market, but reiterated his unflinching support for both the Dual Economy, and worker's rights. He seeks to underscore Kalistan's traditional role of Guarantor of Peace in the Anantonese Ocean, and seeks to maintain peaceful relations with Kalistan's neighbors. "In particular, we should make an effort to reach out to Baltusia. Preliminary reports show that we have a significant amount in common with our closest neighbors." Lourenne is not to be forgotten though, especially since cooperation over mobile technology continues .

Bennots closed by thanking the Convention for the honor to serve.

KalMM builds AR into new Solaris Model
Augmented Reality to become "ubiquitous" in Kalistan, says CEO Marks

Sulari, Suldanor
November 2, 4467

Image
AR, already a popular app on Solaris models, becomes part of core OS in new Solaris XXV

Michelle Marks-Bennots, the long serving CEO of the Kalistan-Lourenne joint firm KalMM announced that the new Solaris XXV will have augmented reality, or AR built into the core operating system for the coming year. The announcement was made at the annual shareholders meeting which has frequently been used to tout new features and development in branded devices.

"We've noted the popularity of the app AR on our devices," said Marks. "But the issue was that AR had a number of problems when not native to the devices. It would occasionally crash the phone because it would draw too much computing power away from the device itself, especially in larger cities. Filters would be a problem, so for example, if you wanted to filter out everything but restaurants, it would devote extra power to finding restaurants that were very far away and stacking them with the ones near by. It always drained the battery too quickly, thereby significantly shortening the life of the device itself through frequent recharging."

But Marks announced that KalMM, already a regional leader in mobile technology, has resolved many of the issues. "Instead of leaving AR outside the phone, for users to bring in, given the massive popularity of the app, we decided to work with the makers of AR to bring it inside the phone. This resolves a whole host of conflicts by making the AR be a part of the architecture of the device. Now, instead of loading the app, it will run in the background, and can be activated or put in standby immediately with the side trigger, as if you are taking a screenshot. Since the device prioritizes internal, structural features, AR will not compete for resources anymore. You can load up overlays in the settings menu, And it no longer drains the battery the way the standalone app does. It is a win-win-win, for KalMM, AR and the consumer. With the new developments AR will become ubiquitous in Kalistan, and in all other places that buy our devices."

Marks also revealed news with regard to pricepoint. "Given market saturation, which we hit in Kalistan about 6 years ago, we have been able to scale our production and source most of our components locally, significantly shortening our supply chain and saving a great deal of money on production. Most of the savings are being sunk into development, but a large chunk of them will be passed on to the consumer. The Solaris XXIV started out at 1235, but the new model will begin at 1075. We feel that the new AR is an innovation worth upgrading for. AR isn't the only quality improvement, but it is certainly one of the most exciting, and so putting this device into the hands of millions of our loyal customers is a deal we are willing to make."

The news of the deal with AR was celebrated by investors, and KMM stocks are up 6.2% for the year in the Kalsie, with most of the gains made in the last two weeks.

Kalistan Radical Front rebrands, welcomes new members
KRF re-names and relaxes its positions.

Image
John Jackson leaving his latest meeting with party leaders.

John Jackson and the crew at the Kalistan Radical Front announced today that they will be re-branding in an attempt to normalize themselves with voters. For the past decades the party called "fascist" by some has been the KRF, today they have become "Kalistan First".

"No longer will we be regarded as a party for fascist or 'radicals', we now are a party that can represent anyone. Our main priority used to be restricting rights and ensuring that certain people are higher than others, our main priority now is that Kalistan and its citizens are first. In Kalistan our citizens should have the best water, the best police officers, the best military, and it shouldn't have to rely on foreign nations to get things done." said John Jackson. We also asked him about the party's controversial policies on segregation and race mixing he said, "We have certainly changed some policies on that front. As long as you are a Kalistan citizen you deserve the best. We dont care about what race you are, just as long as you are Kalistani. When it comes to immigration, we still believe in a closed border."

Reactions to this move have been mixed, with some calling it "a great step to normalization" and others calling it "a new mask on a still horrible party." We also are seeing some interesting reactions from some of the party's established base. Some are in-different to the change, while a good chunk are upset by the lax in policies by the party. A KRF voter from Ananto said, "I cant believe the party isn't gonna fight for segregation anymore, its an absolute outrage." We will see in the up and coming elections if this re-branding results in votes.

Dah Stadium saved by Last Minute Clarification
Socialist Party Members replace saftey at T Minus 02

Dahreil, Ananto
October 17, 4469

Image
Dah Stadium survives a neardeath experience

Owners of the Dah Stadium, Anantonese Promotions Ltd., thanked MPP politicians for clarifying their demands, and saving Dah Stadium in Dahreil from demolition. Anantonese Promotions worked with members of the Socialist Party to attempt to comply with the bizarre demands of the MPP in the Nouman peace talks, and members of the RSMoK had rigged the stadium with dynamite, aiming to completely demolish the stadium and cart away the rubble.

Corporation spokesman Jill Howard said, "We are committed to peace and tranquility in the world. We were prepared to demolish the historic stadium to achieve peace in Noumonde, and help resolve the conflict. The demolitions experts in the Socialist Militia had this place rigged to blow and the countdown had reached T minus 2 before ignition, when Party Leader Bennots telephoned the stadium to order a halt."

Apparently, there was a miscommunication with regard to which Dah the MPP wanted demolished, and the Stadium named for the Dah Delta was not the one they wanted blown apart. "It seems they were referring to a mansion somewhere else," said Howard. "There were 2 seconds left on the timer, seriously."

The safety was quickly replaced on the ignition switch, and the explosives were quickly removed from the stadium.

"The Stadium will be around for decades to come. We appreciate the clarification," said Howard. "This stadium is a landmark, and I'm sure fans of the local Baseball team The Delta Gators will appreciate it."

Suldanor Opens Al-Khali Solar Farm
KMD and KalNaPeCo to generate electricity

Sulari, Suldanor
November 12, 4470

Image
The Al-Khali Solar Farm, named after Sulari's favorite son, Premier Abdulaziz Al-Khali, will generate electricity for 350,000 homes

Cheap energy has always been part of the mandate for KalNaPeCo. But solar farms have never been on the agenda, until now. KALNAPECO, the national Petroleum company, has teamed with KalMD to develop the first great solar farm in Kalistan. Benefiting from inexpensive photovoltaics sold by overseas distributors, primarily from Baltusia and domestic production which has just begun ramping up, the large, double solar array collects the sun's energy during the day and charges batteries to produce an even flow of current throughout the day and night.

"These photovoltaics are so sensitive," said new AKSF spokeswoman Jill Dove, "that even in cloudy and rainy days, the farms operate at 57% capacity, meaning that as long as the sun is up, we are generating power. More power, in fact that is needed by the customers that we immediately serve." The Solar Farm produces enough power daily to power 350,000 homes, but since the more than 450,000 homes in Sulari and that doesn't include businesses, the farm is intended to act as a back up to other power generation from more traditional methods.

"Ultimately, the goal is to move off of natural gas," said KalNaPeCo CEO Frank Franco. "KalNaPeCo, in making investments in renewable energy, will guarantee our own profitability by extending the supply of oil we are pulling out of the ground. The Solar Farm that we have opened with KMD takes pressure off demand for current KNP production, so that we aren't being asked to pull ever increasing amounts of oil and gas up and depleting our reserves as quickly. It is a small investment, compared to the cost of running aground when the oil dries up."

Ultimately, the AKSF will not replace fossil fuel usage. "There's 100 million people in Kalistan, and 36 million homes in Kalistan," said Dove. "We'd have to build more than 100 of these farms to just barely meet demand Republic wide. So far, there is an additional one planned for Senvias, Vrassa. But it is a start. And it proves that it can be done."

KMD and KNP have sold the Solar Farm over to the nationalized power grid, as per the Law, guaranteeing an immediate and final onetime profit of 2.3%. The entire project cost the companies more than 23 million Rubles to build. The Solar Farm is now operated by the Kalistani Government, and serves Sulari primarily. The farm will be maintained by the NSP under instruction by KMD technicians who are on contract with the NSP for technical consultation.

Raymond Reiley-Carrangus nominated by SP for President of the Republic
Begins campaign against Oatis Perot

Kaliburg, Ananto
May 12, 4471

Image
Reiley-Carrangus, Political Commentator and Social Activist says "Time is up for the Reform Party"

Socialist Raymond Reiley-Carrangus, a political commentator for Eshar Radio 93.2 FM and a social Activist in Eshar and throughout Odufaray, has sought and obtained the nomination for President of the Republic from the Socialist Party of Kalistan. Reiley, who is 41, is a moderate Socialist and a newcomer to SP politics in Kalistna But he appears to be the right man for the Job.

As he accepted the nomination, he said this "The Reform Party has governed Kalistan fairly ineffectively. They have refused to use the Presidential Prerogative to name a new Government which is reflective of Kalistan's multi-Party political climate, and they neither sponsor bills, nor do they really vote all that often recently. Their Party, however, sits in the Assembly, keeping seats warm, and they basically take checks for doing nothing. The Party, with this vote feels that I could do better than this, but let's be honest: This podium I'm speaking at can do better than the current President. So we should change him: Time's up for the Reform Party."

Reiley, a life time dues payer to the SP, said he would not take a hard line. "Look, I'm a middle of the road guy. I'm not interested in tearing things down, and I'm not interested in shutting people out. I can already say, if I am the lucky recipient of the People's trust, I will share my table with all Parties who endorse me. Even the NCP, who we may not agree with all the time, but we've generally gotten along with, and who the SP has endorsed for years as an institutionalist antidote to the whackjob rightist anarchists arrayed against the Government. With cooperation from both sides, Kalistan's institutions have been protected for the most Part, and so I'll name the NCP Leader Premier if elected President. That's just what's going to happen. I've laid the cards out on the table. Of course I'll observe the Prerogative as well, and will seek advice for the plurality."

Reiley's positions are somewhat right of the traditional SP's positions, but he also fully endorses the social agenda of the Party. "We can't have worker's power without basic workers' rights. We will promote strengthening rights to strike and collectively bargain. A strong workforce is a happy workforce, and a happy workforce is a productive workforce. Those who make money can use that to expand investment in Kalistan's current projects, and to do so, we need to focus on the needs of the worker. Additionally, we need to continue to work to end poverty in Kalistan by ending the exploitation that causes poverty."

Reiley said he is no "social warrior": "Kalistan's laws should reflect the preferences of the legislature. There is a reason we have been elected here, and that is to do the People's business. So consequently, shutting out one voice or a million is the same whether those voices belong to leftists or rightists." Reiley is also in favor of decreasing the strength of the military, and looking into ways of solving all of Kalistan's territorial disputes with its neighbors. "I want peace. So that's what we should work toward."

Reiley will be in consultation with other possibly sympathetic Parties over the next couple years to see what can be done about obtaining their endorsement. Meanwhile, stay tuned.

Berrocal Expands On Political Agenda
In major policy speech, Agramontian League leader announces intention to back Reiley in election

Sulari, Suldanor
October 30, 4471

Speaking at the party's national convention this weekend, leader of the Agramontian League Guillermo Berrocal announced a wave of new policy initiatives in an attempt to expand the fledgling political party's legislative agenda. With support from the League's seven-strong contingent of Deputies, Berrocal emphasised the importance of state institutions to both the economic wellbeing of the country and to intersocietal relations. Building on an earlier address by Internal Affairs Spokesperson Eve Saraceni, he emphasised that an erosion of support for traditional programmes and organisations was eroding public trust in politicians.

Image
Berrocal prior to his key speech at the League's national convention

Berrocal also applied further pressure to the Reform Party, saying that "there is an increasing feeling in this country that the President and his party do not actually want to govern, rather they wish to receive all the privileges of holding office without fulfilling their fundamental responsibilities". In the same speech, he announced for the first time publicly that the League would be endorsing the candidacy of the Socialist Party's Raymond Reiley-Carrangus in the next Presidential elections. Highlighting their shared priorities for governance, he spoke of building an "institutionalist" coalition to combat the dominance of reactionary political forces in Kalistan.

Elsewhere at the convention, former miner Zacharie Romans was unveiled as the party's new Foreign Policy Spokesperson. In his set piece speech, he accented the need for Kalistan to respond to what he described as a "unipolar international environment" and to strengthen ties with other nations who recognise the importance of external sovereignty. In response to perceived weakness in the current administration's foreign policy, Romans remarked that Kalistan's international position "was at an all-time low" and stated that an increase in conventional military forces would be a central aspect of a government involving the Agramontian League.

Reiley-Carrangus stumps for office
Declares "We'll actually do something."

Kaliburg, Ananto
April 6, 4473

Image
Raymond Reiley-Carrangus campaigns for President in Kaliburg this week, along with his now-famous podium

Citing the ineffectiveness of the current Reform Administration, Socialist Raymond Reiley-Carrangus stepped up campaign efforts.

"For years now, I have said that the President of the Republic, Oatis Perot, is a do-nothing President. He has been successful because the opposition has been divided. We want to unite the opposition and create an institutionalist coalition. We are calling on all Institutionalist and Leftist Parties to endorse my candidacy."

The Socialist Party welcomed the Agramontian League's endorsement. "The first Party to join us is the Agramontians. This makes sense, of course, because we share some similarities. While the Agramontians need to differentiate in order to stay in business, we agree on many things, and it will be a fantastic opportunity to share governing responsibilities with them. We hope the NCP and the Workers Party will join us too."

Reiley then finished the campaign rally by leading the crowd in a call-response chant of "Perot-Podium." This gag, a frequent standby at Reiley rallies began when the candidate said that the podium would make a more effective President than President Perot. In the running gag, Reiley plays the role of the lone Perot supporter, and the crowd responds by demanding the Podium be the President. Some of Reiley's critics have taken to calling him "President Podium," which Reiley says is a term of endearment, in a bit of self-deprecation. "I think its kind of funny, actually. You could theoretically elect anyone and have a better President, even the podium. So it may as well be me."

Reiley Barnstorms across Kalistan
Whirlwind tour takes him to all 5 districts in 3 days

Yoshimi, Suldanor
November 12, 4473

Image
Raymond Reiley-Carrangus puts in work during his threeday, 19 city tour of Kalistan

Nobody can accuse Socialist Candidate for President of the Republic Raymond Reiley-Carrangus of not doing the hard work necessary to run for President. "So often, the election falls into the lap of who ever happens to get the most votes, but this year, we actually did the work. We got commitments for endorsements from other Parties, and we are aiming to build a grand coalition of people who care about Kalistan," Reiley said during a press stop between back to back campaign rallies.

When we caught up with the moderate socialist, he was 13 cities into a 19 city tour. "We've been going for like two days straight. I get some time to catch some shuteye on the bus, but to be honest, I hain't slept for more than a few minutes at a time since we started. We're doing Ananto tomorrow, and then I am going to stay in Dahreil over night, and then head back home for some rest."

Reiley is working hard: You'd almost think he was running a campaign against an opponent who was matching him stop for stop, ruble for ruble. "Naw, we ain't even seen Oatis on the trail this time. Or last time. He just has his party put his name on the ballot and he doesn't even talk to people. I mean, I don't even know what the dude looks like. I never even seen him. You might just call him a place holder."

The Reform President has been President of the Republic for most of the last 11 years, except during the term which was interrupted by the election fo another invisible candidate, Geniveve Smith. "Nope, never saw her nutha," said Reiley. "These people, they run, they get votes, and then they just sit around. We got stuff to do, man!"

Reiley apologized for being punchy. "Yeah, I've been up for 48 hours. But you know what? I am trying to show the people of Kalistan that I am serious! My first mission is to put together a unified government that represents a governing majority. They I want to appoint people to suitable portfolios and get the business of running the Country back in effect. We havent had a functioning government since 61, and the country has sort of been on autopilot. We need that to change."

Reiley has shown interest in revitalizing ODEN, supporting Kalistani institutions and handing control over policy to the cabinet members. "They should be working for Kalistan. Those aren't just seats. Anyway. Peace. I am headed to Sulari next. See ya." And with that, Reiley disappeared back into his campaign bus, and within minutes, the bus was back on the road, to appearance number 14.
