Murro Elected President
November 4179

Deborah Murro a founding mother of the Free Will Party has been elected President of Kalistan. Murro, a 51 year old business executive ran unopposed for both her party's presidential primaries and the presidency itself. Her campaign proposed extensive economic and social reform with a view to restore Kalistan's reputation as a libertarian haven in Terra. In an interesting change though, she hopes to extend this libertarian atmosphere to the field of economics. Plans include budget cuts, tax reductions and privatisation of as many state owned enterprises as possible

The new President, already nicknamed "Demolition Debby", has already begun employing her executive powers to effect change within the administration, several days before her Cabinet is voted on by the National Assembly. Many of those reforms are symbolic such as auctioning several cars from the presidential motorcade and reducing her official entertainment budget. Murro has said that she intends to execute her role in an unpretentious and details-oriented fashion.

So far, her office has been quite mum on what direction her administration will take in foreign policy. In his confirmation testimony to the National Assembly, incoming Foreign Minister Federico Llosa said that Kalistan would continue to engage with the world, uphold all her obligations and remain committed to free trade, globalisation and human rights . The President herself has only stated that she intended to execute a "humble but effective foreign policy" and decried both excessive interventionism and isolationism. No specifics have been given so far.

Labour Reorganised Under Trade Unionist Basran
Rebrand and restructuring work begins following the procurement of funds by the NTWU

15th October 4322

Shaminder Basran is the new leader of the National Labour Party

Former Secretary-General of the National Telecommunications Workers Union (NTWU) Shaminder Basran was today unveiled as the leader of the National Labour Party (NLP). Following confirmation that the union will provide the necessary funding to enable the political party to reorganise, elections were held among the new party membership to determine a permanent successor to interim leader Stefano Martínez. Basran was the front-runner from the outset, articulating a vision of a renewed labour movement working in co-operation with existing left-wing political organisations in the country.

The National Labour Party is the successor organisation to the Labour Party, formerly the Labour Party of Kalistan, which governed the Republic in coalition with the Socialist Party of Kalistan (SPoK) during the Kalistani Age of Affluence. Martínez has overseen the reorganisation of the party since it was acquired by the NTWU and has sought to eliminate what he referred to as "the outdated and elitist structures" which prevented the party from remaining electorally relevant during the economic turbulence after the prosperity disappeared. The new administration faced an immediate challenge when they sought to officially register withe electoral commission. In an attempt to differentiate themselves from the existing Kalistan Labour Party (KLP), Martínez renamed the party the National Labour Party.

Questioned on how she intends to inject some life into a sleeping political giant, Basran has said that her focus will be appealing to a broad coalition of the Kalistani citizenry. Support for the dual economic system which was synonymous with the Age of Affluence is the foundation of the NLP political programme however there was no commitment on other previously important matters such as the partisan militias. Furthermore, Basran is a supporter of the "united through diversity" movement which has been gathering steam within the underground political scene on the island of Ananto. Referred to by adherents as a form of civic nationalism, it advocates for the erosion of the Kalistani identity and the celebration of different traditional cultures.

Basran Seeks Fresh Constitutional Settlement
Recently-elected President puts forward ambitious legislative agenda

20th February 4324

Shaminder Basran, leader of the National Labour Party and President of Kalistan, has unveiled plans for extensive constitutional reform over the course of her executive term. Although she will require the support of the legislature if the reforms are to be implemented, the ambition to propose such comprehensive change to the manner in which Kalistan is governed is being praised by commentators who argue that the current system is ineffective and outdated. Under Basran's new system, the powers of the President and the Prime Minister would be significantly changed to remove the overlap which currently exists between their respective roles and responsibilities.

In addition, Basran is hoping to appoint a new government to implement and support her legislative agenda. Assuming her coalition partners agree, the new Premier will be Benito Capmany, a former civil servant and a trusted ally of Basran throughout her leadership of the National Labour Party. Like Basran, Capmany is closely associated with an emerging force in the party which seeks to radically alter the Kalistani sense of identity by cultivating pride in historic traditions. At a party conference, he gave a passionate speech about how the lack of a national identity was the cause of many of the political struggles which have troubled Kalistan over the last two centuries.

Members of this rapidly developing political movement argue that the grouping of all citizens as "Kalistani" ignores the linguistic and religious divisions which exist between communities and creates resentment between them. They argue that the government needs to recognise the existence of the distinct ethnic groups among the Kalistani population instead of only considering nationality when defining culture and heritage. One of the largest communities pushing for change is the Egelian-speaking population, with some even adopting the terms "Pensio" or "Bentaran" to differentiate themselves from other Kalistanis.

Today The KDP kicked off their refounding with a campaign event in Ananto. Speakers were party leaders Alexander Michaels and Chelle Sveglio. The speech by Mr. Michaels, the billionaire owner of Michaels Tech, gained attention with his attacks on the ruling NCP. In his speech, he said
It's really unfortunate what's happened to the NCP. See, 30 years ago, they were moderate party with good people. [Travis] Scrivener, [Daniel] Lynchfield, those were moderates who we could work with. Now, I see a bunch of extremists. It's like the NUP took over the NCP. All of them seem like far right radicals. This is why we're back. I don't want this reign to continue.

New party leader Chelle Sveglio also spoke. She emphasized unity and inclusiveness in her speech, saying
I'm a second generation immigrant. My parents immigrated from Istalia, and worked hard to get where I am now. Thanks to their hard work, I got to go to law school and eventually became a prosecutor in Vrassa. Now, I want to promote these values that my parents taught me that have gotten me so far: Fairness, Kindness, and Perseverance. These are true Kalistani values, and these are what we will be fighting for going into the next elections.

The KDP also announced that they would be building a new headquarters complex outside Ananto, and another on the mainland in Vrassa City.

DEMOCRATS ESTABLISH THE KALISTAN DEMOCRATIC PARTY.
RALLIES IN NUMEOUS CITIES, GATHERING ALMOST 300.000 PEOPLE IN TOTAL.

KALIBURG/SAN MARTEEN - The political duopoly in Kalistan has been interrupted by the sudden establishment of the Kalistan Democratic Party, which has just finalised work on its framework and held the first-ever convention of the party in Temmon/Los Fuertes during which people behind the whole idea of the party - Frederick Arbor, Johnatan Gauland, and Leslie Morgan - presented their recipe for Kalistan. The convention attended by more than 8 thousand people, has certainly taken the political scene in Kalistan by surprise. Democratic Party wants to truly revolutionize Kalistan, by transforming it into a more unified republic under the name "Republic of Kalistan" and reform the governance system.

Image
One of the Leaders of the Kalistan Democratic Party - Frederick Arbor.

During the convention, Frederick Arbor presented the party's vision for the system of government in Kalistan. The DP's agenda includes keeping the office of the President of the Republic of Kalistan which would be the official head of state, however with a primarily ceremonial role in the system. Political newcomers want to establish the office of the Governor of the Republic of Kalistan which would serve as the head of government and be elected from the 365 Representatives in the proposed (by the party) Federal State Assembly which would become the unicameral parliament of the new Republic. The overall agenda of the party is enrooted into liberal and libertarian values, as during the convention, its leaders numerously pointed out that the party supports limited government interference with a moderate welfare state.

To prove their dedication to the reformation of Kalistan, leader of the new party unveiled the new flag and seal of Kalistan which are the main symbols of the agenda of the new party. Arbor said that the party would like to see a referendum in the near future on all of the given proposals and that it should be up to the people whether to enjoy a truly liberal, and friendly state. In one of his last sentences during the convention, Arbor said that it is the Kalistani People who should decide whether to put their national animal, their symbol of pride, Royal Kalistani Tiger, on their flag.

DEMOCRATS CELEBRATE MASSIVE VICTORY AND SET OUT TO FORM THE CABINET.

Results of Tuesday's General Elections in Kalistan.

KALIBURG/SAN MARTEEN - The general elections in the United Republic of Kalistan are over, Kalistani people elected 750 new legislators and a new President. The elections caused a great joy within the ranks of the Democratic Party, as the freshly founded popular move, established just 1.5 years ago managed to secure a majority of seats in the 750-seat Chamber of Deputies winning 54.01% of all votes, which gave Democrats a safe majority of 394 seats, the Liberal Party won 25.86% and 200 seats and the National Conservative Party won 20.10% of all votes and 156 seats. it seems like the Kalistan Democratic Party has managed to break through the duopoly of the LURK and NCP. Critics say that it is mainly the liberal and progressive values the party represent and that the movement has managed to present a series of comprehensive bills to the Chamber of Deputies which were supported by thousands of people and the legislators unilaterally, without even debating the civic proposals turned them down. According to political analysts affiliated with the Kalistan Today, the lack of a proper debate and firm opposition of LURK and NCP cause a dramatic drop in their popular support with the support for KADEM rising. A week before the elections polls gave the Decmorats around 33%.

Another surprise during the recent elections was the victory of the Democratic candidate Frederick Arbor in the presidential election. In the polls prior to the elections, Arbor was given little chance of passing to the second term and in both scenarios (one against Zhou, and one against Ramford) Arbor was given around 5 percent less than his competitors. But the election for the highest office left everyone speechless and officials of the Democratic Party excited, as Frederick Arbor won the race for the Presidential office in the first round with 53.23% of votes (Zhou (LURK) - 25.74%, Ramford (NCP) - 21.02%). It all seems like for the upcoming three years the Kalistani politics will see a splendid cooperation between KADEM-run President's office, and KADEM-run cabinet. It is almost certain that the KADEM government will now set to implement all those reforms presented prior to the elections to fulfill its electoral promises. One of the first decision of the new government will be to drastically cut the income and sales tax alongside significant cuts made to the government's expenditures. The proposal presented by KADEM proposed cutting the government's budget from the level of 2.7 trillion to 1.7 trillion combined with drastic cuts in the income tax system (the highest tax bracket lowered to 40%).

DEMOCRATS ENJOY HIGH SUPPORT IN POLLS AS FURTHER REFORMS PASS TRHOUGH THE CHAMBER
Kaliburg/San Marteen, July 4391

Geraldine Reynolds.

KALIBURG/SAN MARTEEN - Despite minor drops in support for Kalistan Democratic Party, it seems as the Democrats are most likely to recover and once again enjoy support at rates higher than 50% in recent polls conducted by Kalistan Today. According to the same polling research President Arbor, who has just announced that he will not be seeking second re-election, and recommended Geraldine Reynolds as a suitable person for the next candidate from KADEM, enjoys high support with 64% supporting his actions, and 19% opposing, and the rest undecided. Joanne Prudnicki, chief analyst of Kalistan Today points out that the recovery of KADEM in recent polls is the result of further reforms implemented by the Democrats, which are supported by the public majority. Prudnicki point out one more important factor - KADEM was the first party in decades to propose tax cuts, and with the scale of the cuts proposed by the Democrats, the party easily gained public support, and according to Prudnicki the effect of the tax reform proposed and implemented by the Democrats will be visible for at least couple of years. Aaron Posner, the chief economist of the Kalistan Today, said that the economic reforms proposed by the KADEM had a positive effect on the economy, especially in the investments sector, with more than 100 major foreign-based investments made during the first 10 months after the reforms. Posner says that the Valruzian companies like Bonning, Reaglair and BFS quickly became the largest net foreign-based investors in Kalistan, with Bonning commencing the works on their first factory in Kalistan. According to Bonning's management, the company wants to launch additional manufacturing line for all its SUVs. With such major investment, it is estimated that more than 1.400 jobs will be created over the period of the next 48 months.

According to the first presidential opinion poll including Geraldine Reynolds, who is not yet KADEM's official candidate, but with the recommendation from Arbor she is most likely to win the nomination, Reynolds wins in the first round with all included candidates (within the range of 39 to 44% of votes). Reynolds is a well-known politician in Suldanor, she served two terms as the Provincial Attorney, and two terms as the Mayor of Temmon/Los Fuertes between 4383 and 4390. She is a strong supporter of President Arbor and is expected to follow his policies. She strongly advocates for the accession of Kalistan to the Alboro Agreement and further integration of Kalistan with its Seleyan partners, mainly in the SU.
