KalMD to seek FDI from Indralan Firms
"Future is in Online Sales", says CEO

KalMD CEO Tashunke-Washte to visit Indrala to discuss online sales

Kalistani Microdivisions CEO, Vivian Tashunke-Washte announced plans to begin work with Indralan tech firms to grow the business into the area of online sales. Said Tashunke at August's stockholders meeting: "We have exciting new opportunities to expand our operations into a new sector of the Kalistani Economy. The future is in online sales. As our infrastructure continues to standardize and expand, and more and more people have access to the net via cell-phones and hand held devices, the next step has always been to give them something to do with these phones. In this way, the recession cleared the way for new growth and new opportunities in new sectors that the old Kalistan never dreamed of. And KalMD is leading the way."

According to Government Spokesmen in the Foreign Ministry, The State of Indrala has approached Kalistan with opportunities to cooperate with Indralan firms in making this launch. "We will review the various aspects of the market leaders in Indrala, and move from there. Naturally, this will be yet another opportunity to spin off and create yet another brand under the KalMD umbrella. Once the Indralan firms make their pitch in Kalistan, KalMD will utilize its significant liquidity and will begin working with them to develop a new brand that will offer shoppers consumer goods at their finger tips. It is a new day in Kalistan."

The negotiations are in their earliest phases, but KalMD's shareholders were excited by the news of expansion. Both KMD and KMM shares were up once more in the Kalsie with the KMD index rising to 1.79 and the KMM index up to 2.1. Ripple effects were felt in other areas, as the Nationalized Industry KalNaTexCo also saw a slight bump in prices, up .23 points over yesterday's closing. Analysts are convinced that expansion in the Textile Corporation is due to greater expectation of online sales of fabrics and clothing once KMD spins off.

Conservatives Abolish National Service
National Industries take a Dive in Kalsie

Kaliburg Ananto
10 October 4455

Investors rush to divest in National Industries as Conservatives Eliminate Half the Labor Market in One vote

"This is the disgusting result of neophyte government in Kalistan." Were the only words offered by the President of the Republic as the Conservative Government under Premier Maddie Kendall joined with the so-called "Reform Party" to abolish half of the labor Market in a single vote.

The vote, known as the "National Service Abolition Act of 4454" took effect in April of this year. By early May the effects were obvious. The result of the bill was the ending of the National Service Program, and suddenly 8.5 million 22-26 year olds flooded into the job market. The act also had the effect of essentially eliminating the Public Sector in Kalistan. Effects in the Kalsie were immediate: Nationalized Industry Stocks dropped through the floor, and all nationalized industry, including oil, natural gas, steel, fabric, drug and pharmaceutical production has virtually ceased since May. Additionally, the bureaucracy, which had been entirely staffed by the NSP, as well as schools, libraries, national Bank branches, universities, and infrastructure maintenance has ceased to function.

Leading Kalistani economist Frederick Everett said this: "We have once more entered recession, as we have now passed a quarter of negative economic growth. We have no police on the streets, schools and government offices are closed, and nothing is working. We are already seeing shortages throughout the economy in everything from fuel and therapeutic drugs to clothing and road maintenance. Luckily we are not a crime prone society, but the lack of public sector workers of any sort will be felt for years."

"Abolition of the National Service Program without any sort of corresponding effort to privatize anything but media, or even prepare for any reprocussions to a society which was based on equal parts public and private sector functions shows that Conservatives lack even the slightest appreciation for anything beyond their own tunnel vision ideology," said Foreign Minister George Foreal, the highest ranking Socialist in Government. "The President of the Republic has asked for the Socialist Party's Ministers to resign from the Government, and we have agreed. We cannot possibly serve with these destroyers."

The Kalsie Index has gone from a high of 152 in Early April to 83 in October. The Kalistani Economy is in shambles, and the fault lay at the feet of the Conservative Government.

Socialist Protestors Shut Down Capital
Socialist Militia, Serving as Police, Arrest Three Vandals

Kaliburg, Ananto
November 7, 4455

Image
Socialists and former NSP members protest the incredibly unpopular policies of the ruling Conservative Majority

Ahead of this January's Elections, agitated Socialists have taken to the streets to protest the massive economic dislocations caused by Conservative mismanagement of the Nation.

"We don't know if we'll win the coming election, but we can only hope that the Conservatives do not win it. The President was right: Nothing Good could possibly come of a Conservative Majority," said Danny Edwards, of Dahriel, who traveled to Kaliburg to join the Protests.

"What can we do?" said Suldanor Native Gina Hernandez. "Since I'm about to turn 22, I'm going to go join the Militia. Its the least I can do: Hopefully they'll put me to work teaching, or trying to keep the country afloat somehow, until we can get rid of this rotten government."

Youth protestors who have found their economic futures pulled out from under them by spiteful, malicious policies of the Ruling Conservatives have taken to the streets, and have literally shut down the Capital. A Conservative voter named Max Jones said, "Ah these stupid kids: What they need to do is get out of the way and go get a job. Its hard enough to drive around here with all the gas shortages, now I have to waste what little I have waiting for a five mile long procession to pass in front of me. These Socialists are just the worst, always begging for things. What about me? What about my job? I was just laid off last month because of the way these Socialists have totally mismanaged things for centuries." When asked if things were working better before, Jones said, "Yeah, the dual Economy and the National Service Program were great. But I'm a tax payer, and don't think I should have to pay for anyone else. I did my time."

Elements of the Revolutionary Socialist Militia of Kalistan, who were ordered to fill in for Public Sector workers who were fired when the NSP was abolished, served as security for the protest. Said Captain Dante Carrangus, "We had to break up some altercations, mostly frustrated people who were upset about how much the protests were disrupting their lives throwing things at the kids. We have reports of some localized vandalism of private businesses, and we've taken three students into custody for that matter. There is also one instance of a shuttered NSP office being set on fire. We're still looking into that one, but its safe to say, we are not police detectives, so it is unlikely that that will ever be resolved. We were luckily able to put the blaze out. But again, we also aren't firefighters, so I'm just hoping that nothing more serious happens." Carrangus was asked how the Militia is being paid, now that the NSP was abolished. "We aren't, I mean, we aren't making more than we did before. Its only a few bucks, but I got guys who have been out of work for 5 months now, and what little the militia pays, that's enough for them to maybe feed their family and make bills. Thank god they didn't abolish the UBI!"

The Protests are expected to continue throughout the week, raising tensions in the capital between the Youth protesting the meanspirited votes of the Conservative Majority, and the citizens of Kaliburg whose lives are being disrupted by the Protests.

"Hell," said Olga Gottmundsdottir. "What else is there to do? They cancelled the NSP and sent us all home. I have some money saved up, but good luck finding a job. I may as well come out here and protests. I'm not doing anything else with my life anymore.

Kalsie quiet on heels of New Promise to restore NSP
Socialists agree to rejoin the Government; Kalistani Motors opens for business

Kaliburg, Ananto
April 7, 4456

Image
Hashimoto prepared to return to Premiership of the Republic in new deal to Restore NSP

The Kalsie, Kalistan's stock exchange is quiet this month, despite taking a beating over the last year due to shortsighted policies of the Conservative Government, and resulting yearlong shut down of the Public Sector. The Socialists stepped in in October and partially reopened the Public Sector using Militia forces to supply desperately needed man power, and the Militia activation will continue until the NSP is restored, and restaffed.

The quick action by the Socialists resulted in more seats in the Assembly in January, but Maria Reina Rodriguez lost the Presidency in a resounding loss, as voters blamed the Socialists, at least Partially for the end of the NSP. Following the election, the jittery Kalsie began to smooth out, and the bottom of the economic crisis appears to be hit. The Kalsie hit its low on January 4th of this year, with the index sitting at 67.34, representing a loss of a third of the wealth in Kalistani corporations from its opening 13 years ago. Since early May of last year, as the Militia absorbed more than 750,000 of the approximately 8.5 million members of the NSP which were suddenly thrown onto the Job market and promptly put them to work attempting to ensure that vital national operations did not cease to function, even if on a skeleton crew level, investors slowly came back to National Industrial stocks. Late this March, as a compromise Government Bill and a promise to re-establish the NSP seemed in the works, the Kalsie rose to 72.19, and recovery seems to be in the offing.

The new Conservative President of the Republic, Coby Collingwood was quick, following the elections, to offer a new Government bill with moderate Socialist Abe Hashimoto as Premier. The effort to bring Socialists back into Government "reflects commitment to the institutions of the Presidential Prerogative and Separation of Powers, and inspires confidence in both the Government and the economy," Hashimoto reflected. Hashimoto added that once the Government bill passes, talks with both Indrala and Lodamun will be reopened concerning investment. "We were in the midst of negotiations with the State of Indrala to acquire investment to expand the National Shipyard in Kaliburg, and were on the verge of concluding a deal to help Lodamun built a new deepwater port and Naval Facility on their North Eastern Coast. The Abolition Act put a screeching halt to that, but it appears now that the Conservatives wish to work to rectify the problem, so I've reauthorized cooperation with the Conservatives in the Governance of the Country."

Image
Kalistani Motors, the remnants of the old National Motor Company, has officially reopened for business at the beginning of this month

In other news, remnants of the old KALNAMOCO, which was divested in 4441 during the last economic crisis, have finally been completely divested, and reorganized into Kalistani Motors. Kalistani Motors, listed under the Stock Symbol KMC, has two divisions: Automotive and Aircraft. It intends to reopen the old KalNaMoCo plant and begin producing Mocos again, which were popular among the RF subculture three decades ago, and plans to open an aircraft factory in Odufaray in early 4458, which will build aircraft for domestic and export sales. Initial Stock offerings place the value of the company at more than 16 billion Rubles, and as such, makes the Kalistani Motors the second most valuable publicly traded private sector firm in Kalistan, behind KalMD.

Kalistani Motors releases MOCO C-XV
Concept Coupe tests limits of City MPG

Eshar Odufaray
November 30, 4456

Image
The new MOCO C-XV, from Kalistani Motors aims at breaking the 38 mpg barrier

Designers at Kalistani Motors have released a new concept car with the aim of shredding the orthodoxy concerning Gasoline Engines.

Spokeswoman Katie Reynolds said at a press conference following the unveiling of the MOCO C-XV, KM's first concept car, "Kalistani Engineers have been struggling with this problem for years: The vast majority of fuel efficiency is lost in the form of heat. This problem was resolved by the development of electric and hybrid cars. But all gas engines were, themselves, entirely limited by the 38 mpg barrier: If you want to have a car that operates with the amenities that modern consumers expect in their cars, you had to sacrifice fuel efficiency. But not anymore. The MOCO C-XV is a full featured coupe which has been demonstrated to operate under normal conditions with a mileage rating of more than 60 miles per gallon, something that even the most efficient hybrids struggle to meet."

How does this coupe perform so well? Reynolds described new technological advances which captured most of the engine's heat and returned it to the engine rather than allowing it to escape as superheated gas out the exhaust. The returned heat for its part operates an electric power plant that operates the car. So the gasoline which is used in the vehicle serves only to recharge the powerplant. In this way, heavy batteries, gas usage and exhaust is significantly reduced, and the automobile performs as well as a standard gas engine, with much higher fuel economy.

"We have adapted heat cells that are designed to greatly reduce the weight of the vehicle. Consequently, on the highway, you will see MOCOs traveling hundreds of miles on a single tank of gas, which is a mere 3 gallon tank, I might ad. In the city, when coasting is not as reliable, and the engine remains active more often, fuel economy of more than 60 miles to the gallon is already a reality. All while maintain heated seats, a full sound system, automatic doors, windows, remote start system, and so forth that consumers love in their cars. We intend to begin building all MOCOs with this powerplant beginning in 4467."

The MOCO C-XV concept car is not for general sale, however, MOCO coupes built on this technology and this look will be the first to roll off the Company's new assembly line in the coming year. New MOCOs are expected to begin selling at around 56,000 Rubles, which makes them fairly affordable even for the working class. KM intends to create a coupe version, followed by a four door sedan. When asked if there will be an SUV with this new engine technology included, Reynolds said flatly, "No. We will not make an SUV."

Extremist Party to Reform?
Speculation comes after a secret meeting.

Political analyst in Kalistan are on the edge of their seats after hearing news that the Kalistan Radical Front may be starting back up. The news comes after several senior members of the now defunct party met on Tuesday.

The party, founded by John Jones was known for being a very extreme right-winged party in Kalistan, brining opposition to the Labour and Socialist parties at the time. The peak of the party's controversy was when the leader asked its members to hunt down the opposition leader after being "disrespected. The KRF has a strong electoral history, boasting many presidential and legislative wins.

The question now is if this will come to fruition, and how will the new Kalistani populace react to this strongly right party. Analyst are also looking at how the party will get along with the other parties now, as the KRF and the Socialist party, did not vote together much. We will see in the coming days if this party comes back and shakes up the political world.

GanJam Is Back
20 year hiatus ends as Festival returns with new ODEN input

Dahreil Ananto
April 12, 4466

Image
This years GanJam was held at Dah Stadium in Dahreil, Ananto

This year's GanJam returned from a two decades long hiatus with a low key, but still exciting festival. Sponsored once more by ODEN, the focus this year was on "good music, good art and good drugs."

New ODEN-Kalistan Director and GanJam promoter Johnny "Blaze" Edwards said, "The national mood over the past few decades has been pretty somber. In ODEN, we tracked the ups and downs of consumption and discovered that since the fall of One Party rule, Kalistanis have mostly focused on drinking and taking opioids. Its like Kalistanis are in a pain-killing mood. We see that reflected in their voting habits. Ahem. Anyway, only within the last couple years have their preferences for consumption changed back to Cannabis, and so we see that as our signal to go ahead and resume the GanJam."

Overall, the Jam was a financial success, but just barely. ODEN-K Director Edwards said "Well, we made a little money. Since we didn't get a cut of the concessions, and took a bath on the sale of ODEN products, ticket sales slightly outpaced our costs. We also only had two nights of ticket sales this year, compared to three nights in the past. But its no worry. The value of a Restored Jam to Kalistan is not measured in balances and bottom lines. We have needed an outlet for a LONG time in this country. Hopefully, this Jam energizes a new Generation, and maybe next year, the Jam will be bigger than ever!" The 4466 GanJam sold 78,345 tickets for the first two days, and the final day, as is traditional, was free. Attendance ranged between 76,300 for the first night to 92,400 for Night 3. The Jam was held at Dah Stadium in Dahriel Ananto.

This year's jam, the first of this generation featured mainly rock and reggae acts over the three night concert. "Many of the bands were political, no doubt," said Edwards. "There is always a close link between the cultural establishment in Kalistan and the SP. So many of our acts sang songs with overtly political themes in them. And we ended up booking the most political band in the Country, 'Fight the Establishment', as Show Closers. They aren't the biggest band in Kalistan right now, but they pretty much sum up the mood of the kids who were at the show."

Image
Carl Santa Ana, leader of the eponymous Santa Ana from Baltusia, opens GanJam to great delight of the Fans

The first night, Edwards combined the International Showcase with the Legends showcase. Featured on Day One were Baltusian rockers Santa Ana, who blasted the crowd with a shredding 20-minute medley of their hits "Dark Mystic Woman" and instrumental epic "Spirit Crusher". The music featured a great degree of technical expertise and an Egelion flavor which is so rarely heard in rock music. The band was such a hit with the crowd, that it was called back out for an encore, and in a master stroke of professional skill, picked up the riff where they had left off and played an additional 10 minutes of the "Spirit Crusher." Representatives of KMI records were on-hand to sign the band to a three record deal in Eshar, Odufaray based on the performance. Other featured acts during Day 1 were Kalistani stoner comedy duo Frank Marin and Theodore Chang, who entertained the crowd during set changes.

Image
Veteran Kalistani Comedians Marin and Chang are the first comic act to play the Jam

Night Two was designated L Night, as Dub reggae artists took the stage. The day was filled with heavy bass riffs, sonic tracers and sparse lyrics from bands like International Irie Squad, King Fatty and Dubsound, and Terry and James. The Headliners for L Night, Ras Kino and the Dubrock 5, took the stage at 8:30, as the sun was setting. Free tabs provided by ODEN were passed out among the crowd and people were free to take as many as they liked. Ras Kino played Reggae for about an hour, and then the band slipped into a dub session which lasted well into the early hours of the morning. The Dubrockers were joined by the reggae-rock band Four Nineteen, who were named after the famous Bicycle Day, when Dr. Alberto Hoffmeister famously invented LSD in the year 1947. Ras Kino, the Dubrock 5 and Four Nineteen kept the fryers entertained, playing each others' songs and jamming throughout the night.

Image
Ras Kino and the Dubrock 5 are joined onstage by Four Nineteen to Headline L Night

The final Day of the GanJam was all about hard rock. Four Nineteen returned to the stage this afternoon, where they played their entire album, the cult classic "Resistor" from cover to cover. The album was originally panned by critics, but later attracted an intense cult following before being favorably re-reviewed by the same critics who had panned it earlier. Fans of Four Nineteen were thrilled to hear the live rendition of the album, and one fan summed up the experience: "This is the best album ever produced, the most interesting, it was just fantastic to hear it live. These dudes are all about the fans anyway." Four Nineteen was not originally scheduled to play the Third Day of the Jam, but because the Suldanor rockers "Stuntman and the Dummies" were unable to make it to the show due to an aircraft malfunction at the last moment, the slot opened up, and Four Nineteen volunteered to play a second set.

Image
Four Eleven treats fans to a live Version of "Resistor" from cover to cover on Day 3

The Show Closers, Fight the Establishment, brought the political tint of the rest of this year's GanJam into sharp focus. Their unapologeticly Leftist lyrics called into question policies of the right-wing Government, as well as an explicit exhortation to fight to defend civil liberties and political freedoms from encroachment by Government officials who do so under the guise of protection of this or that group.

"Yo-Kalistan is not for sale!" said Lead Singer Zachary de la Mancha as the group launched into a powerful rendition of "Market Injustice". The mood was decidedly more militant during the Fight the Establishment set than it was during the previous two nights. The charismatic de la Mancha used breaks in the songs to rail against everything from empowerment of the police to the Right Wing anti-immigrant mentality of the current majority in the Government. "Kalistan is a country of immigrants. If these people had been in charge when my mother and father arrived from Egelion, they wouldn't have been let in- More like thrown in jail for wanting to be free and live a better life than the one they left behind. We're a better country because we welcome Immigrants. Its time to take a stand against this xenophobic bullsh-t!"

Image
Fight the Establishment, long called the Voice of Odufaray's Left, closed the show with their unequivocal support for Socialism

Most people in the crowd agreed that the juxtaposition between the cool chill reggae Rock sound of Four Nineteen in the afternoon and the Leftist Militant screed of Fight the Establishment in the evening was jarring. "But, you know, I mean... I get it," said concert goer Poppy Sandimas, who echoed the sentiment of most of the concertgoers. "This is my first GanJam. It was kind of weird, but then Kalistan is in a weird mood right now too. The Right wants us depoliticized. They want to keep us out of the street, and want to give the cops power to arrest us when we do march and beat us and search us and take away our freedom. And yet, we are a Leftist country. Like, I don't understand how these Rightists keep getting into power. Everyone knows that Kalistan is about freedom and being welcoming to all. But these politicians want the cops to beat us and they want to jail innocent people. We gotta do something, man. FTE taught us that. Its time for a new way of doing things."

All major Parties were invited this year to set up booths along Art Row to inform voters about their Party's policies, and to register new voters. SP sources said they made more than 35,000 new contacts at this year's Jam.

Political Society to Compete in Elections
Agramontian League, a left wing think tank, to stand in upcoming general elections

Sulari, Suldanor
September 2, 4466

Left wing political organisation the Agramontian League has announced that it has successfully registered as a political party and will be standing in the next set of national and local elections, currently scheduled to be held in January 4468. Over the past decade, the League has become increasingly partisan, aiming criticism at the right wing governing coalition in particular. The proposal to officially register as a political party has been discussed for several years and a motion was approved to that end at the organisation's national conference in May. Despite rumours of various high profile defections from the Reform Party and the Socialist Party, the League currently has few experienced political figures.

Since its establishment over four centuries ago, the Agramontian League has sought to preserve the legacy of Kalistani economist and thinker Oscar Agramonte. Developed throughout his lifetime, Agramonte's theories and ideas emphasised the important role of the state within the Ethical Socialist system. Described by some as nationalistic and others as Ruanist, this unique combination of ideas has maintained a hardcore following, owing in part to the work of the League. In their official summary of Agramontian thought, the organisation states that "the central tenet of the Agramontian way of thinking is that the individual and the state are intrinsically related and should seek to support each other in whatever way possible".

At a press conference last week, party leader Guillermo Berrocal highlighted the need for a political party which can bridge the divide between the hardline conservative factions and the orthodox socialists in the SPoK. Furthermore, he assured assembled journalists that the League would not be dogmatic, saying "the Agramontian League recognises the impact of the state on its citizens. With that in mind, proper and effective governance is a pre-requisite for a high quality of life and that means compromise, understanding and debate must be prioritised by politicians and government officials".

Former President Maria Reina-Rodriguez Dies at 71
Influential Socialist Leader leaves a mixed legacy

Sulari, Suldanor
October 2, 4466

Image
Reina, affectionately referred to as "Queen Maria" served in Kalistani Politics for more than five decades

First elected to the Assembly at the age of 19, Maria Reina-Rodriguez has led the Socialist Party for 40 years. But her powerful, heavily accented voice is now silenced. Her family has confirmed that Comrade Reina, former President of the Republic and Speaker of the Socialist Party died in her sleep last night. Her Grandson, Jorge Delgado, made the announcement in a brief news conference, saying that Reina had been diagnosed five years with congestive heart failure, and had undergone two outpatient surgeries to attempt to remove plaque from various arteries. The President had kept a low profile since leaving office, and tried to reduce her work load, but neither wanted to give up her leadership position, nor was asked to by the Party. "Last night, my grandmother lost her battle with heart congestion, and suffered a massive heart attack which took her life instantly. We request privacy while my family grieves the loss, and will have news at some point in the future concerning a public memorial, where those who loved her may say good bye to her."

Reina-Rodriguez was especially skilled in economic theory, and moved into the position of Leader of the Party with the fall of Comrade Al-Khali. During the 4430, Reina served as Premier of the Republic, following Al-Khali's downfall, and then moved into the Presidency when Al-Khali was assassinated. Comrade Reina served as President of the Republic for 17 years, including the period of One Party Rule, which saw the collapse and recovery of the Kalistani Economy, not once but twice. Comrade Reina was responsible for Kalistan's part in improving relations between our Republic and the Kingdom of Lourenne, and general prosperity of the Republic. But her administration was not without controversy. Under Reina, Kalistan's commitment to democracy was seriously questioned, as the SP under Reina instituted measures from preventing ephemeral Parties from participating in Kalistan. Those restrictions were eventually rolled back, and the restoration of democracy led to successive Rightist Administrations, though Reina has ensured that SP ministers remain in the Government.

Reina leaves behind a Kalistan in the firm grips of an inexplicable Rightist Majority. Her lasting legacy will be the dramatic development of Kalistan's Private Sector, especially in the technology, automotive, and financial sectors. She is survived by her husband, Jorge Jones, one daughter, Denise Delgado-Reina, and three grandchildren. Reina will be buried in Sulari, where she has made her home in the past decade.

Premier of the Republic Hashimoto to Retire
"Passing of the President allows me to re-evaluate"

Kaliburg, Ananto
November 15, 4466

Image
Premier Hashimoto, long serving Socialist Leader set to retire following next election

The death of former President of the Republic and Leader of the SP has weighed on the far left for a month now. It has also given Premier of the Republic Abe Hashimoto a catalyst to announce his retirement.

"I began my career more than 50 years ago," the Premier said in a recent interview. "It has been my life's work. But the passing of my very close friend and comrade, President Reina, has allowed me to re-evaluate how I will spend the few years that I myself have left. I sacrificed any potential for a family, and my personal life in service to the Republic, and while I am proud of the work that I have done, both as foreign minister and then as Premier, I still have things that I want to do. I'd like to return to Lourenne, and maybe see some more of Selaya. I still have a few good years left, and well, you never know what you have until its gone. I miss my friend Maria, most of all."

The Premier said it is his intention to retire from Public Service following the next election. "I'll remain in my current position as long as the President desires me to do so, as is the Prerogative. But I will not stand for re-election in 68. So, that will resolve matters one way or another."

The loss of Reina and the retirement of Hashimoto leaves a vacuum at the top of the SP's ranks. There are few obvious successors for leadership. The Socialist Party has historically reached outside of its established leadership at times like this, but as the announcement of Hashimoto's retirement is only just now public, the process of selecting a new leader is one for the future.
