Locals claim they hear explosions, Police declare it "...one of the most destructive acts of vandalism"Neveras City, Neveras
May 17, 4423Important rail line between Vrassa and Neveras is cut in overnight VandalismThe railroad bridge between Neveras City and Vrassa collapsed last night. Nobody was injured in the collapse, but local residents told
The Kalistani Republic that they heard what sounded like explosions.
Resident John Cheng, of Neveras City said, "Yeah, it was about 3:30 or something last night and me and my wife were woken by what sounded like cars crashing, you know, like just loud bangs. I thought it was thunder but my wife wanted me to go check and see if our car was alright, because y'know, she heard it too. The car was alright, I said to her, go to sleep, and she was like 'What was those bangs then?' And I said, probably some kids with fireworks."
The bridge collapsed at 3:15 am, Neveras time. The loss of the bridge over the Vrassa River cuts a vital artery into the heart of the Mountainous district from the North. Local authorities believe that the destruction, which has been referred to as one of the most destructive acts of vandalism in Neveras City's history, was deliberately caused.
"Well, you know, these tensions around these parts," said Police chief Tom Fernando, "I think it is giving people some bad ideas. Its related to this fighting by the Parties. And you know: with so many people out of work around here, and whatnot, I imagine that a lot of people are just bored and want to cause some chaos: If they had jobs they would be sleeping to go to work, but I guess since Privatization, there hasn't been a lot of work for the people of the District. But this bridge it's a hell of a loss, you know?"
None of the armed factions claimed responsibility for the destruction, but similar incidents, on a much smaller scale have occurred throughout the Republic in recent days. There were reports of downed telecommunications lines in Southern Vrassa and Ananto, a mysterious sinking of one of the ferries between Ananto and the Mainland in Port Devon, and car fires in intersections in Eshar, Kaliburg, and Sulari. The cars themselves had all been spraypainted yellow and black. It is unclear if those colors mean something at this point, but it marks a sharp uptick in oddly destructive occurrences across the Republic.
In other news, the Kalsie is sharply down on news of continued chaos in the Government. Most hard hit are joint firms with foreign countries, as investors pull their money our of the joint gambling interest with Keymon and KalMD who owns a major factory in Keymon, on news of potential Keymonese intervention in the Kalistani political crisis. Said one investor: "Well, nothing is free. I hope the Liberals in Keymon realize that their intervention is bad for their own business as well as ours." The Kalsie was down 3.4 percent today, with Kalistani stocks flat and joint venture stocks bearing most of the loss.
