Surprise Indralan Attack on Zardic Fleet
Skara Brae, Saqueya, 7th November 3343
Image

This morning, at 9:00 AM Zardic time, the Indralan Air Force attacked the fleet of Zardugal stationed at Skara Brae, Saqueya, in an unexpected surprise attack. The Indralan strike crippled Zardugal's naval capabilities, delaying the possibility of retaliation by several months. This attack comes after the July announcement from the government of the Federation of Zardugal of its retreat from all of its Dovani colonies. The government of Indrala has yet to issue an official statement, however it is clear that the attack took place in order to prevent the possibility of Zardugal protecting the independence of its former colonies.

The Indralan attack destroyed all 10 Zardic battleships stationed in Skara Brae, along with 9 cruisers, 22 destroyers, 231 aircraft, and 5 submarines. 1582 Zardic lives were lost, along the power station, shipyard, maintenance, and fuel and torpedo storage facilities, as well as the naval and intelligence headquarters building. Indralan losses were light, 3 submarines, 37 aircraft, and 149 lives.

The Indralan surprise attack will surely result in Zardugal's declaration of war, plunging Terra in yet another major military conflict, only three years after the official end of the Great Majatran War.

((OOC: Announcement appears to have been illegal: there was no vote in the Zardugal assembly to withdraw from its colonies, let alone one with the required unanimous vote behind it.))

OOC: The announcement was made here: http://classic.particracy.net/viewnews. ... sid=346067
Also, that was purely for RP reasons, merely to provide Indrala with an excuse to attack the colonies. They are, for all intents and purposes, still Zardic possessions.

((OOC: I know the announcement was made, but it was made without a vote of the Zardic parliament, so it's not a legal withdrawal of sovereignty. That's all I was saying.))

Ooc: the Zardic Congress doesn't need to approve of it. It's fully legal.

OOC: That was a simple RP device to make the beginning of the war more plausible. Sovereignty over the colonies was not transferred, and Zardugal still owns those territories.

Indrala Invades Federated States of Dovani
Dovani, 7th November 3343

Shortly after the Indralan surprise attack on the Zardic fleet at Portmouth, Indrala's forces began the full mainland invasion of Zardugal's former colonies. The Indralan invasion force is divided in two: the Northern Army, Indrala's most modern armed group, under the command of General Fan Huang, landing in the region south of Lourenne, and the Eastern Army, commanded by general Liao Shui, invading Hanzen from Kimlien. The two armies are expected to link in the middle of the former territory of Orléans and Vasser.

The LSS Crusader Council prepares to assist freedom-fighters

Image
Theoderic Lathander, General Secretary of the LSS Crusaders Council

We're mobilizing a paramilitary alliance of mercena.. *hum* volunteers, to Dovani. We're selling tickets to various Crusader-aligned militias for joining a division of 10.256 soldiers that shall be sent to assist the Indralan freedom fighters in Dovani, under the leadership of Colonel Astral Thael. The noble freedom-loving organisations that have applied for tickets are the Ultra-Conservative Resistance Barmenia, the Imperial Free Corps Abroad, the Clan of Lord Xarfaxis, the Southern Market Socialist Storm Troopers, the Crimson Cohort of Blood and Skulls, the Barmenian Death Knights Brotherhood, the Sanguine Order, the Barmenian Chapter of the Knights of S:t Micheil, and the Legion of the Fourth Sword.

The Lionist Crimson Crusade of the Sacred Feline Heart, which is under the party's direct control, will stay out of this, although members can apply for a ticket in the Battalion of Unaligned Crusader Knights (BUCK).

We hope to contribute to the spreading of freedom, stability, justice and good values across Terra. We also hope to give our warrior caste some experience that shall be useful, should the evils of Davostag, Vanuku or the illegal entity known as "pontesi" threaten our good folk again.

The government of the Holy Luthori Empire today issued a stark warning against those attacking the Zardic territories in Dovani. In a statement given to the press, His Highness the Grand Duke of Tinako, Henry Scrope, incument Imperial Seal-Bearer, made the following comments:

We say this to you: We will defend our colonies, our sovereignty. We will defend Dovani against your attacks. We will block any attempt to use Luthori airspace or waters. Any ship of either Indralan or Crusader origin that comes within firing range of our defences in Dovani will be fired upon without further warning.

At lunchtime today, the Holy Luthori Empire expelled all Indralan diplomats, citing 'long-standing insults to Luthori' by the Indralans.

Foreign Minister Darren Nicholson spoke to press this morning regarding the legal controversy over the Zardic Prime Minister's withdrawal of colonial claims, and the Indralan attack against the Zardic navy.

Image
Recently, the Prime Minister of Zardugal declared that Zardugal would withdraw its claims to its colonies, recognising only the territory of the states of the Federation as its sovereign territory.

As the Foreign Minister and therefore a subordinate of the Prime Minister, I am not in a position to rescind this declaration.

However, under the law of Zardugal, the Prime Minister, or for that matter, any other officer of state, does not have the power to withdraw colonial claims. Given that the Congress of Zardugal never consented to this act, it does not carry legal weight and is completely null, void and invalid. Under Zardic law, these colonial territories are still under the legal control of the government of Zardugal.

I must take this opportunity to tell the world how disgusted and stunned the people of Zardugal are at the acts of the Indralan military. We condemn the unprovoked surprise attack for the purpose of delaying our defence of our territory. We condemn their groundless aggression.

The sons and daughters of Zardugal have died. The Zardic fleet has been significantly significantly weakened. We will not tolerate such a crime - for it was not an act of war; it was a most grave crime.

Zardugal fights proudly for its sovereignity and for the liberty of its citizens. We will not bow down before oppressors and aggressors. Zardugal is at war. As long as this war lasts, regardless of how costly it is, we will fight to punish Indrala for its horrendous perfidy. We cannot rest until we have won over the aggressor.

Also, I must thank the government of the Holy Luthori Empire. They have condemned the actions of the Indralan government, and have declared that they will not sit back and watch as the sovereignity of an ally is threatened. We must march together in friendship in the face of adversity.

OOC: There must be a unanimous agreement of a nation's legislative body for that nation to withdraw from its colonies. Please see Pax Cynica article 6.6, and decisions made following the nation-raid on Hulstria earlier this year. It is decidedly not legal.
