Trial of the Saiser Part 2

Postby Mr.Yankees » Sat Apr 18, 2009 9:24 pm

*The bailiff signals those in attendance to quiet down*

"Ladies and Gentlemen, please rise. This Court is now in session. The Honorable Mr. Roland Lincoln presiding."

*Mr. Lincoln approaches the bench and sits down*

"You may now sit" said the bailiff.

*Mr. Lincoln opens a file and starts speaking*

"Ladies and Gentlemen, I will now go over the rules of this trial. These rules must be followed at all times.

1- Those present will remain silent at all times. Any interruptions will result in immediate removal from the courtroom.

Now, the rules for the Prosecution and the Defense:

2- The Prosecution and Defense will have ten minutes for opening statements. No evidence can be provided during the opening statements.

3- After opening statements, the Prosecution will be allowed to proceed with their first witness. The Defense will have an opportunity to counter examine the witness the Prosecution brings and vice versa.

4- Evidence may be presented during the testimony by a witness.

5- All witnesses must be cooperative with both the Prosecution and the Defense.

6- Any motions presented such as a motion to suppress evidence or a motion to dismiss will be presented to me. I will make the decision on whether to allow it or not after listening to both sides. My decision on such motions is final.

7- Both the Prosecutor and Defense must conduct themselves in an ethical manner. Any violation of ethical codes will not be accepted and proper action will be taken.

8- My decision of guilty or innocent in this trial will be final.

9- Any other rules of a trial may apply as appropriate.

Thank you.

We may now proceed to the start of the trial."

*Diordidas Drunksides rises*

I, Diordidas Drunksides, representative from the Marshian - Outter Galaxy Central Ministry of Justice will be the head the Prosecution. May I request your permission to start with the opening statements?

OOC: If anyone objects to the location I picked, he may say it now.

OOC: No, that sounds excellent, if you can just give me 2 minutes to make a small statement at the end of your opening statement. My character will be Sir Leroy Locke, attorney of law (of Hutori ethnicity) and advisor to the prosecution.

*Diordidas Drunksides rises and addresses the crowd*

"Since I woke up in the morning, a blunt question has been troubling my mind. Why have we gathered here today? Is this trial's sole purpose to impose a penalty or not upon the actions of a single man or is its goal focused on bringing justice? Because one can wonder, and I am sure the Defense is doing that right now, if those two mere and seemingly simple facts differ from one another. We are here, therefore, to determine the meaning of justice while contemplating on the case of Mr. Rodion. But would that suffice?

I represent the people's voice, your Honor; the world's outcry for light, for justice. Listen to the beauty of the word. Justice. Will this trial recognize its true meaning and enforce it, or will the, as determined by the international criminal code, illegal actions of Mr. Rodion be endowed with another chance, with hope? I am sure Mr. Rodion is not the one that needs hope, but this world, which is full of doubt and fear, and I am here to ensure that Pandora's box, as I can freely characterize the ideals of Mr. Rodion, will be closed once and forever, and its cruel, unethical keeper who opened it and spread its terror throughout the globe will be punished, or as most justifiably given, will be served with the springs of justice and once again light will see our world. My team certifies the people that our job will be met with enhanced standards."

*Drunksides looks deeply into the defendant's eyes*

"For pity will not be given to those who refused to share it. I trust this trial to be fair and neutral, and in my deepest wishes, I hope that the outcome of this session will prove the world how the international justice system can hold as the single most powerful peacekeeping and stability force. That is all I have to say, for now. Your Honor."

*Drunksides seats down and in total self control awaits for the rest opening statements*

After the end of the prosecutor's speech, Sir Locke stood up:

"Your honor, I am here today to represent the voice of those who were for so long voiceless, the will of those who were slaves and to protect those who were defenseless. All the victims of the horrors of the Saiser have chosen me as advisor to the prosecution. I will do my utmost best to help the prosecutor and assure that justice be served."

OOC: Please, let's keep OOC to a minimum and by that I mean none. If you are the Defense, Captain Socialist, then request permission from the judge (me) as the others did and then you can make your statement.

OOC: And when exactly did the Athlorcaean Ministry of Justice agree to this?
