Disclaimer: Let's try this once again. No OOC posts are allowed here. If there are any problems or concerns, please either PM the players involved for clarification or create another thread expressing your concerns in the General Discussion area. In fact, I will create one myself for ANY concerns regarding this trial. Every time an OOC post is placed here, we will start all over. Don't try to be funny and post any OOC stuff or I will personally report you to the moderators for proper disciplinary action.

Thank you and have a great day!

*The bailiff signals those in attendance to quiet down*

"Ladies and Gentlemen, please rise. This Court is now in session. The Honorable Mr. Roland Lincoln presiding."

*Mr. Lincoln approaches the bench and sits down*

"You may now sit" said the bailiff.

*Mr. Lincoln opens a file and starts speaking*

"Ladies and Gentlemen, I will now go over the rules of this trial. These rules must be followed at all times.

1- Those present will remain silent at all times. Any interruptions will result in immediate removal from the courtroom.

Now, the rules for the Prosecution and the Defense:

2- The Prosecution and Defense will have ten minutes for opening statements. No evidence can be provided during the opening statements.

3- After opening statements, the Prosecution will be allowed to proceed with their first witness. The Defense will have an opportunity to counter examine the witness the Prosecution brings and vice versa.

4- Evidence may be presented during the testimony by a witness.

5- All witnesses must be cooperative with both the Prosecution and the Defense.

6- Any motions presented such as a motion to suppress evidence or a motion to dismiss will be presented to me. I will make the decision on whether to allow it or not after listening to both sides. My decision on such motions is final.

7- Both the Prosecutor and Defense must conduct themselves in an ethical manner. Any violation of ethical codes will not be accepted and proper action will be taken.

8- My decision of guilty or innocent in this trial will be final.

9- Any other rules of a trial may apply as appropriate.

Thank you.

We may now proceed to the start of the trial."

*Diordidas Drunksides rises and addresses the crowd*

"I shall make a haste statement as head of prosecution. I do apologize for the sudden intervention.

Since I woke up in the morning, a blunt question has been troubling my mind. Why have we gathered here today? Is this trial's sole purpose to impose a penalty or not upon the actions of a single man or is its goal focused on bringing justice? Because one can wonder, and I am sure the Defense is doing that right now, if those two mere and seemingly simple facts differ from one another. We are here, therefore, to determine the meaning of justice while contemplating on the case of Mr. Rodion. But would that suffice?

I represent the people's voice, your Honor; the world's outcry for light, for justice. Listen to the beauty of the word. Justice. Will this trial recognize its true meaning and enforce it, or will the, as determined by the international criminal code, illegal actions of Mr. Rodion be endowed with another chance, with hope? I am sure Mr. Rodion is not the one that needs hope, but this world, which is full of doubt and fear, and I am here to ensure that Pandora's box, as I can freely characterize the ideals of Mr. Rodion, will be closed once and forever, and its cruel, unethical keeper who opened it and spread its terror throughout the globe will be punished, or as most justifiably given, will be served with the springs of justice and once again light will see our world. My team certifies the people that our job will be met with enhanced standards."

*Drunksides looks deeply into the defendant's eyes*

"For pity will not be given to those who refused to share it. I trust this trial to be fair and neutral, and in my deepest wishes, I hope that the outcome of this session will prove the world how the international justice system can hold as the single most powerful peacekeeping and stability force. That is all I have to say, for now. Your Honor."

*Drunksides seats down and in total self control awaits for the rest opening statements*

Your Honor; I object to this blatant disregard for court procedure by me learned friend the head of prosecution, this 'sudden intervention' of non-legalistic political rhetoric on the subject of the "beauty of the word justice" shows clearly that the prosecution regards this a political trail in which the prosecution may confidently dominate the proceedings with impunity from legality. For what would this court be to give political and moral judgements based upon the politics and morals of the prosecution? It would be a kangaroo court, a sham, a show, a arbitrary enforcement of the will of the victor upon the defeated. Well, your Honor, I tell you the only good justice is when justice is blind. This is the bastion of our free legal system, the founding rock, the fundamental principle. A principle which I'm sure all members of this court profess to share and hopefully to strive for. But what does it mean, blind justice? Innocent until proven guilty?

It means the freedom of the legal procedure from the fires of temperamental passions and political demands. It means judgement without emotion, without prejudice. If we do not abide by these principles then what makes this court any better than a Saiserite one? How can we legally apply the crimes of an entire regime, an entire ideology, upon the head of a single human being, however highly vaunted that human being was by that regime and ideology? I will endeavour to prove throughout this proceduings that it cannot be done legally or morally, and that such a judgement against whom, for want of a better word I will call my client, would make a mockery of justice and bring this court down to the level of my client. We would be enchanted by the Saiserite personality cult ourselves to pass such a judgement, for what would be a better confirmation of the Saiser's power than to place all responsibility upon the head of the Saiser, allowing those who followed him to claim he made them perform those sickening acts which we read of in the pages of Terra's history? No, friends, no one has that much responsibility or that much power. My client sat at the top of the pyramid, so high he could not see the bottom, for it was the bottom of the pyramid friends that did the dirty work. How can this old man, who was surrounded by advisers, generals, ideologues, and followed by millions of murders be held responsible for the crimes of those generals, those advisers, those ideologues and those millions of slivershirted devils? My freinds it simply cannot be done.

I have to agree with the Defense here. Let's keep some order and not speak out of turn without permission.

After listening to the opening remarks, we can now proceed to the second stage of the trial.

Would the Prosecution please read the charges the defendant faces?

The prosecutor, a Trigunian named Fyodor Georgiev, begins speaking:

"Your Honor, this man, the former Saiser Rodion that is in the dock as I speak, has committed many crimes. He is not a three-kopeck thief that sits for a few years. He is responsible for heinous crimes against humanity, starting brutal wars of aggression against defenseless countries, committing genocide against millions of people arbitrarily deemed "undesirable", and ruthlessly suppressing political opposition and preventing Hutori from becoming democratic. These are only a few of his many crimes, but it is enough; heads have rolled for smaller things then this. Some say that if we dwell on the past we will lose an eye, but however much you feed the wolf he will just keep on eating. It is time for him to learn that when you cut down trees, the chips will fly. He many attempt to deny his crime, or say he only stole a few kopecks, but whether or not he crosses himself when the lightning comes, he will still be shocked. No matter how much it is said that we should not talk about rope in the presence of a hanged man, it is impossible to escape the conclusion that the only thing this man deserves is to be put up against a wall and shot. A good rope is long and a good speech is short; therefore I yield to the defense attorney."
"The FSB finally caught him for talking shit about replacing Putin with this "Saiser" character. I'm guessing they're up to his seventh toenail by now."

How does the defendant plead to the charges of: heinous crimes against humanity, starting brutal wars of aggression against defenseless countries, committing genocide against millions of people arbitrarily deemed "undesirable", and ruthlessly suppressing political opposition and preventing Hutori from becoming democratic?

"I plead not guilty to all charges. I am an innocent man who proudly inherits the glories of the greatest international organization Terra has ever known. The only crimes were the monstrosities committed and countenanced by the enemies of the New World Order."
