Attacks Unleashed on Egelion

Tragedy struck Nordland today as the city was struck by two major attacks.
During the after-election party rally in Nordland, Caille, the SDLP caucus was literally rocked as two bombs were exploded outside of SDLP headquarters. As Prime Minister Smith and SDLP Chairman Goedring were attempting to escape through the back, their escorts were ambushed by two gunmen. While Chairman Goedring escaped with only minor wounds, Prime Minister Smith was shot fatally through the neck. Officials report that in the attack 12 people were killed, including Prime Minister Franklin Smith and the two gunmen, and 124 were injured.

Simultaneously on the other side of town, armed militia members of the Caille Byltingarkenndur Vörður (Caille Revolutionary Guard) launched an attack on downtown Nordland. The coordinated attack saw the militia seize all major governmental building in Nordland, including Parliament, Caillean Supreme Court and Governor’s Office. The group, upon seizing Parliament, raised the former flag of communist Egelion and declared the Lýðveldið Sosialism Caille (Socialist Republic of Caille). Military officials of been unable to defeat the rebels and CRG currently maintains control of the Caillean government. There were reports of minor attacks in Northmoor, but these attacks were quickly quelled. Officials state that these attacks were too well coordinated and the militias too well armed to be a purely domestic attack and it is suspected that the shipments seized previously were only a small portion of aid flooding into Egelion from Dolgaria, Nou Endralon and Trugania.

The CRG is the remnants of Caillean wing of the now defunct Popular Communist Front of Egelion. The PCF dominated Caillean politics for nearly 25 years between 2786 and 2811. After the party’s collapse in 2821, the CRG took over its party structure. It was largely a dormant force until the rise of KCCP parties elsewhere in Keris and the mass exodus of radical members of the Egelion Leftist Front. It is unknown the level of contact that CRG has with other potential leftist groups in Egelion or whether they are working solely with KCCP organizations

The Jelbanian Monastic State of the Knights of St. George offers an alliance with the KCCP, as we are both crusading against the schismatic Orthodox church.

"My fellow Egelians. We are in crisis." Said President Jones to the camera. "Our country can only be held to be in danger. The Socialist Republic of Caille poses a serious threat to our territorial integrity. The UKSR poses a renewed danger. We are under threat. We are up against an enemy that will not stop until they force their bizarre ideology onto us. Our way of life, our nation, our people are at risk. We will not provoke a conflict, but as we speak I fear that conflict is being provoked. With that, the remains of the caretaker cabinet formerly headed by Prime Minister Smith and I has put forward 4 bills for the Senate's consideration. The declaration of a state of emergency and a national unity cabinet featuring all parties, an emergency budget that times the defense ministry's budget by 10, an emergency act instituting a draft and with a heavy heart, I declare myself in favour of the immediate postponing of elections for the foreseeable future. If there is war then Egelion will be ready, and we will triumph, for one our side we have all that is right and good, and the will of God himself."

Fighting Spreads from Nordland

The Egelion Army was forced to withdraw from Nordland as entrenched militants inflicted heavy casualties on Egelian troops. Commander Josea San Juarez, commander of the forces attempting to retake the city, stated that "our withdrawal from the city is in no way an indication that we are giving up the fight against the communist rebels."

Reports that fighting has spilled outside of Nordland began to appear shortly after the army's withdrawl, however. A second attack on Northmoor was reported. Sources state that the second attack has been far more effective than the first, with militants controlling anywhere from a third to one half of the city. Interior Minister Sarah Sharpe has denied these claims, however, and states that the situation is under control. Smaller attacks have been described across the province with various success.

When asked about the rebels declaring Caille an independent republic, Interior Minister Smith stated bluntly "there is no independent Caille. Anyone suggesting otherwise is plainly wrong. The UKSR has no right to recognized this group and by doing so is essentially declaring war on Egelion. Any actions taken in the name of the rebels will be treated as nothing short of an attack on Egelion's full sovereign rights." Foreign Minister Maria Sanchez added that "we are currently looking at a peaceful solution to the situation. The UKSR, however, has thus far been reluctant to show any sign of cooperation. While the Republic of Egelion is loathed to use their military in any form, any actions taken by the UKSR against Egelion will be met with the full power of Egelion's military. 'The will of Cailleans' is not to live under a communist dictatorship, and any comments to that fact are nothing short of delusional. The rebels will be crushed as will anyone aiding them."

Northmoor Lost

Communist rebels have taken control of Caille's largest city, Northmoor. Army officials have been slow to respond to the communist attacks and have thus far been largely ineffecting in quelling the attacks of the communist rebels. The rebels have control of an area deemed the "Red Corridor" stretching from Nordland in the west to Northmoor in the east. So far, most incidents have occured in interior Caille. A fortified border has prevented foreign aid to the rebels, leading army officials to state that the rebellion will soon be starved out and contained.

Response from Cailleans has been largely negative so far. Most criticism has focused on the slow response and ineffectiveness of the Egelian army. "If this was Amateria" declared one man, "the army would have already stopped the rebels, captured their leaders and executed them for treason. But it is happening here in Caille, so no one cares."

Cailleans fleeing the violence have begun to flood into Eder Gira and Amateria. While both provincial governments have offered support for the refugees, it is unclear how many either province can absorb.

Caillean Airforce Created

The Socialist Republic of Caille today stepped up the scale of warfare with Egelion by forming its first air-force. A large collection of modern Trigunian aircraft was exhibited today across the Republic, causing some confusion amongst witnesses as to how the fledgling state could afford such things.

I ain't seen no aircraft roun' these part's for nigh on three year' - Caillean Peasant

The key to the mystery appears to be the pilots themselves, who your valiant reporter attempted to intercept after their flights. Though I was unable to speak to them, the strong smell of vodka emanating from the individuals, and the provenance of their aircraft leads me to believe that Caille has received UKSR assistance. When I attempted to clarify this however, local officials tried to shoot me in the face. Luckily I escaped thanks to their extremely drunken state, and inaccurate weapons.

Comrade Dolgavan Chairman Boris Zakis comments on Caillean progress:
"Socialist Republic of Caille is an obvious example on how much communism is better than capitalism. In no time federal unit of capitalist controlled nation managed to become a Republic and develop its own military potential up to the level of world benchmark. World class aircraft and trained pilots in such a short period of time. No capitalist nation ever had this tremendous growth of power. It is all thanks to socialism being far superior to fascistic capitalists!"

Egelian Army Begins To Retake Caille

The Egelian military has mobilized and moved on Caille. The border is currently being fortified to prevent interference by the UKSR and the Egelian navy is in place to prevent any action by sea. With reports of the rebels holding aircrafts, the Egeilan Air Force is being prepared for air-combat during the mission. With the Egelian Army near Northmoor, Supreme Commander General Josef Farkas has stated that the reconquest of Northmoor is upon as and Caille will be returned to Cailleans.

Northmoor Recaptured

With Egelian tanks rolling through the city's streets, Northmoor was finally out of the hands of rebels. While initial fighting was fierce, the rebels soon began to fled as the well coordinated offensive overwhelmed their undermanned positions. Colonel Jacobs, commander of the effort to retake Northmoor, was quoted as saying that the weak resistance was a sign of the effectiveness of the initial response to fighting off the rebels the rebels and the the fact that they were ill prepared to hold the territory they had gained. Pockets of resistence are still being reported, but they are isolated and cut off from reinforcements.

Similar success is being reported in Nordland. Egelian pilots were reported to have shot down a rebel aircraft, but this report is unconfirmed. The rebels are still in full control of downtown Caille and a news report from the rebels state that such actions will not go unaddressed.

There has been no news on the status of the rebels outside Nordland and Northmoor. Experts predict a protracted guerilla war is being prepared by the rebels, but General Farkas denies that there is any real threat of such developments and believes that once cut off from UKSR support, the rebellion will collapse.
