Beluz War ("War of Light")

Postby zlopado » Wed Oct 17, 2012 11:00 pm

Background: Since the death of Edward Forstev III, House Forstev and the People's Great Society for Hope have become increasingly radical under the direction of House Matriarch Rebecca. In 3379, House Forstev was elected to govern the Counties of Negunia and Bailon, which promptly succeeded from the Union of Beluzia to form the Enlightened Republic of Northern Beluzia. Troops began to line the new border between the Republic and the Union, and in 3381 the Union county of Parlos Decina was invaded following a formal declaration of war. As the situation stands, the remaining independent Counties, Iliathar and Iker Ado, are governed by the Karav Dynasty.

The rise of the Forstev has been sharply polarizing: Rebecca Forstev and the Society claim they stand for justice, enlightenment, freedom, and respect for nature. The Karavs insist Rebecca is a would-be tyrant who stands for nothing but power, and the Forstevs feel much the same way about the Karav family.

Statistics:
Army DeKarav: 98,400
Forstev Army (in Union): 17,000
Arinidi Army: 2,000 (Foreign)
North Beluz Active Army: 211,400
North Beluz Army Reserves: 158,600
Union Armed Forces: 281,100
Union Reserves: 297,500

Enlightened Republic of Northern Beluzia goes to War

The inevitability of a clash between Good and Evil, Justice and Injustice, Light and Dark has begun. In an address this morning, President Rebecca Forstev officially declared war on the Sovereign Union of Beluzia. Already, the People's Guard has flooded into Parlos Decina, beating back the tyrannical Karavs. Coleshire, the new Regional Capital, was the first city to be liberated. Reports of spontaneous demonstrations of joy have been coming in since the War for Light began.

Rebecca Forstev wrote:In order to liberate our Brothers and Sisters who still live under Karav tyranny, there is nothing to be done but enter the sad state of war. The Karavs threaten our freedom and the freedom of those abroad.

The Enlightened Republic of Northern Beluzia therefore reluctantly declares war on the Sovereign Union of Beluz Counties, and issues a call for all other nations to join us in the struggle for justice.

Borders Re-Drawn?

The Karavs seem to have found support from citizens in Lower Negunia. The Williams Family has also allowed the Karavs to station troops in their territories. The Williams Family doesn't have a standing military wing, and will rely on Karavs to protect it. The Forstevs have advanced on Parloshire, and are involved in small skirmishes with Karav troops crossing the border from Iliathar. The larger conflict is further East, where Coleshire and South Coleshire have become 2 sides of a battlefield.

Republic launches an assault on Iliathar as ground is lost in Negunia

Image

The Karavs are once again demonstrating that cowardice in battle and reliance on evil can, very temporarily, put one ahead. On the East Negunia front, the Karavs have been gaining ground against Republican forces. Meanwhile, the People's Guard beat back the Karavs in Parlos Decina only to be rebuffed, and Kristov III's utter lack of regard for human life and happiness has continued to wreak havoc on Coleshire.

However, hope is on the way. Light and Righteousness cannot truly be defeated, only set back. Bailonese divisions of the People's Guard, which have been unable to evade Union ships and reinforce Negunia, have managed to establish a slim foothold in Iliathar. If successful, this attack will enable the Republic to supply the help it so sorely needs to its eastern border -- and could topple the Karav dictatorship in Port Tackstov.

In a letter to Rebecca Forstev, a 14-year-old girl wrote:There is no lack of regard for human life. Kristov III, the head of the Karav Dynasty, has tried his best to prevent civilian casualties. He has ordered the distribution of small arms to farmers in Northern Iker Ado.

There is no "Karav Dictatorship" in Port Tackstov. The council in Port Tackstov was elected by the people, and the Forstevs enjoyed a large share of the seats. Port Tackstov is democratic. It's okay to accuse them of being dictators in Iker Ado, but even then they could prove that Iker Ado isn't under autocratic rule.

The Karavs have never been known to be autocratic. They always promote regional autonomy. When the Karavs control the throne, they limit their own powers, instead in promotion of more powers for the individual county leaders. You know this, Rebecca. Stop trying to spread lies on our beloved leader.

Light Casualties as North Strengthens
(Details are approximations rounded to the nearest 100)

The centre of the war is the standoff in Parlos Decina, which still continues. In a standoff near the tip of Iliathar, there were minor casualties. The North Beluz Army lost 600 troops and the South Beluz/Union Army lost 700 troops.

There have been no reported casualties in Negunia, from either side. Both the North Beluz and South Beluz armies have grown, as more citizens become aware of the importance of the war, and therefore more motivated to fight for their side.

The Forstevs still have less than 30% control of Parlos Decina, but they retain full control of Bailon, and all of Negunia except the border. The Karavs have retreated, instead focusing now on defending, but some citizens of Lower Negunia donate food to the Karav troops, and supporters of the Liberal Socialist Party, in North Beluzia, have smuggled goods from the North to help the Karavs in the South.

In 3381, the (South Beluz) Union Army reported having 281,100 active troops, and 297,500 reserves.
Since June 3383, they reported having 287,900 active troops (700 casualties, and 7,500 recruits), but no changes in the number of reserves.
North Beluzia, on the other hand, has had increases in both its active troops and its reserves. In 3381, they reported having 211,400 active troops and 158,600 reserves. Since June 3383, they reported having 212,500 active troops and 159,300 reserves. They lost 600 active troops in battle in Iliathar, and recruited 1,700 new (active) troops and 700 reserves.

The paramilitary casualties in Parlos Decina weren't as light as the casualties between the actual armies.
They each lost around 7,400 troops, but the Forstevs managed to recruit 7,000 soldiers, while the Karavs only managed to recruit 1,000. Since the Forstevs are recognised by the Union constitution as the legitimate ruling house, it's easier for them to recruit soliders from that area. The Karavs would have to recruit soldiers from Iliathar or Iker Ado.

Karavs Bash "Kafuri Dogs"

It's one thing to say you support one side, or you support one side's agenda that should last through the end of the war, but how can someone say they support the war itself? That is among the highest levels of disrespect to the Beluz people. Let real Kafuri men speak. These Kafuri dogs should go back to their kennel. Do they even have seats in the Majlis Al-Umma? Who gave then the titles of Brigadier and Colonel anyway? How many soldiers are in their army, 2? I wouldn't take orders from dogs.

The House of Herbert, currently of Malivia, supports the Karavs stating that without their guiding hand, Beluzia is nothing. The House of Herbert shall help in any way possible to ensure a Karav victory.

Republic cracks down

Following a wave of anti-Society crime, the Enlightened Republic of North Beluzia has announced a dramatic increase in police and other domestic security forces. The crime waves are thought to be instigated by the Karavs, who are known to sink to any low to defeat an enemy and have been empowered by rogue elements within the Society. These rogues, who may themselves be secretly funded and influenced by the Karavs to stir up anti-republican sentiment, claim to be the vanguard of the North and protectors of the environment, which has led to attacks on miners, fishermen, and members of other "anti-nature" professions. The largest of these rogue groups, the "Natural Justice Army," is being heavily investigated in the North, but its activities in the Union are beyond the Republic's control.

Rebecca Forstev has commented on the development, saying it is "a tragedy that the NJA has resorted to terrorism." Forstev warned the NJA that "this is exactly what Kristov wants -- a radical, violent, unpopular Society."
