Ahmadist Groups 'Form Coalition'

The Government in Lesako has received troubling news that the numerous Ahmadist radical groups in southern Harisani have come together in a 'coalition' and appear to be consolidating their strength. The still to be named new group has announced that it will pick a new leader in the days to come and vowed to 'oust the b*tch and her brat in the coming months'. This comes after years of division and infighting following a string of defeats at the hands of Asli nobles between 3917 and 3922. Defence Farin (Minister) Amadou Bathily said that the reorganised radicals could have a force as large as 25,000, a number dismissed by some independent defence experts as 'greatly exaggerated'. Bathily said the Government was considering its options on how to respond to the 'southern situation.

With Indralan and increasingly, Coburan influence in Lesako at unprecedented levels, the Ahmadists appear to be largely underplaying their religious tone, instead peppering their proclamations with increasingly nationalist slogans. As a country deeply traumatised by centuries, if not millenia of minority rule, the Government's foreign and economic policy has annoyed several nationalists and even the Ahmadists' recent brutal attack on a primary school in northern Harisani which left 53 dead, has not stopped some nationalists looking favourably at the group.

Ahmadists Begin Major Offensive

In what is the largest military campaign by the Ahmadist radicals in southern Tamoria in nearly 15 years, an army of an estimated 4,000 - the newly named 'Army of the Black Crescent' has begun besieging the south western city of Sabatili. The small coastal city came under siege a few hours ago when the Army of the Black Crescent showed up from the south east after weeks of seizing small villages and settlements, many of which welcomed the 'conquerors who would oust the depraved Sidibe witch'. Sabatili forms a symbolic but devastating target as it's the centre of tourism, a major part of the economy in the coastal regions. Talmorian military experts believe that another southern city, Minbuto is to be hit soon by a similar attack.

The size of the Army of the Black Crescent has shocked many observers in Lesako (the capital) They had expected the attack but not the size of it. Most believed that no more than 1,500 troops could be gathered by the radicals for such an attack. Others think that the radicals have deployed almost their entire force, in order to create this kind of panic amongst the royalists. Defence Farin Amadou Bathily has promised a swift response to the offensive but many are sceptical given the power games ongoing in Lesako between the Government and the legislature.

Peace in Talmoria

The Kingdom of Talmoria and Ahmadist militants the Army of Black Crescent have signed a peace agreement, stunning the world and diplomatic corps. The agreement came after the Kingdom announced that it would be sending 50,000 troops to the conflict ridden area in the far south of the country. Then several tribal leaders in the region renounced their allegiance to the Army of the Black Crescent and reverted their loyalty to the Kingdom. This development is believed to have been driven by fear of what a now united Kingdom could do to them as its army moved south. Money may have changed hands as well for the sheikhs have a long history of being open to bribery.

Under the terms of the agreement, the Army of the Green Crescent is to be integrated with the Royal Talmorian Army. A blanket pardon is to be offered to all militants while some of the major figures in the militant movement will be joining the Queen Regent's government, holding senior posts. The Crown has promised several reforms to personal status and education law, with a view to allow greater liberties to religious schools and courts. Many are sceptical about the durability of this agreement, pointing out that they have been a number of peace agreements in the past which have fallen apart very soon after signing. The militants appear to have withdrawn from their siege of the city of Sabatili and only isolated incidents of violence has been reported in the past week.
