Fall of Lanbsburg
Counter-Revolutionaries Seize Capital

Image
Battle of Labsburg

March 4155 - A major Counter-Revolutionary offensive initiated in June 4154 has managed to take over large swaths of land from the Constitutionalist government and turn the tables in the ongoing civil war, known by both sides as the War for the Emperor's Protection. Having mustered his forces for years, Prince Yasusada-no-Mikoto initiated a massive assault against territory held by the Constitutionalist government and its allied militias, striking from its new stronghold in the northwest. As the Constitutionalist regime had been primarily focusing on countering a potential Kazulian threat, forces loyal to President Hofuman have been redeployed from Mitorania and from around Labsburg towards the Hulstro-Mikun-Kazulian border. This proved to be a mistake, as the Counter-Revolutionary Army was a far more immediate and thus dangerous threat. In June last year, as the capital was defended only by Mamuryūken forces, the Counter-Revolutionaries were able to overwhelm defending forces and take over most of Harusutoria. Then, helped by the defection of high-ranking commanders in the Constitutionalists' armed forces, the Counter-Revolutionary Army moved south towards Mitorania. The defense of the region had been delegated primarily to the Deseret Legion, the Sacrificial Sisterhood of Saint Sharika, and the Army of the King in Yellow, militias affiliated with the religions granted sanctuary in Mikuni-Hulstria in 4148 on condition that they defend the regime. The religious militias were however no match for Prince Yasuda's well trained and well armed forces, and thus the entire region was occupied by March 4155.

Thus the Counter-Revolutionary Army, having liberated Labsburg, have gained the upper hand in the civil war, while the Constitutionalists and the Imperial Court have relocated to the old Gao-Soton capital of Miyako, paralleling the situation before the Constitutionalist assault on Hirugā in April 4152. The regime does nonetheless have control of roughly half of the territory of the nation, and its armed forces and those of its allied militias are similar in size and strength to those of the Counter-Revolutionary Army. In the meantime the Terra First! Army still retains control of areas in Harusutoria, from which it continues to launch improvised missile strikes across the Kazulian border. With both sides in the civil war being roughly equal in terms of manpower and materiel, the War for the Emperor's Protection may drag on for years unless a diplomatic solution is found to end the conflict.

Kingdom of Kazulia launches Operation Soul Rebel

March 4th, 4156

Moments after the passing of the declaration of war against the Great Reich of Mikuni-Hulstria, the Kongeforsvar immediately launched the long anticipated Operation Soul Rebel. Around the early mornings, the Kongelig Luftvåpen launched Operation Fly Swatter. According to military officials around one hundred and twenty (120) fighters launched a massive attack against Mikuni-Hulstrian airfields and airstrips. The Mikuni-Hulstrian infrastructure was well protected as the government had invested much into civil defence infrastructure. Nevertheless, the Kongelig Luftvåpen did not launch the preemptive strike blindly. Aware of this factor, much of the involved multi-role fighters were equipped both bunker busting bombs and anti-runway busting bombs. The route of approach of the various squadrons of the Kongelig Luftvåpen were both over the Anantonese Sea and over the Sea of Carina. Many flew low as to avoid radar detection from Mikuni-Hulstrian radar posts on the Barrier Range.

It could be said that the Mikuni-Hulstrian hindered their own defences. As apart of the government's guise to show that it is a "civilized" society, the Mikuni-Hulstrian government either decommissioned several radar posts or neglected many from repairs. This did not make much of a difference as the Kongelig Luftvåpen jets flew under the point at which the out dated Mikuni-Hulstrian missile defences could render a formidable response. Signals Intelligence reports stated that Mikuni-Hulstrian radar stations intercepted waves of fighters but were unable to send a warning to the government as the Kazulian Navy Electronic Warfare Vessel, KNOS-Jan Opsal and a series of electronic warfare plans buzzing above Mikuni-Hulstrian airspace jammed radio frequencies for the period in which Operation Fly Swatter was being executed.

As to the Kongeforsvar had drilled several times in the past, the Kongelig Luftvåpen employed a mixed-approach strategy of bombing and strafing runs against planes parked on the ground, and bombing to disable runways with special tarmac-shredding penetration bombs. To Kazulian Defence High Command, the Operation was successful. Nevertheless, the Kongelig Luftvåpen was not short of its loses. Although the Mikuni-Hulstrian lost around 288 aircraft, some fighters of the Kongelig Luftvåpen were shot down either due to being hit by surface to air missiles or losing in dog battles. It is estimated that around thirty-eight (38) of the initial one hundred and twenty (120) fighters were shot down.

Upon hearing news of the success of the operation, Chief of Defence Staff Sigve Aagard ordered the ground forces - who had been waiting throughout the entire ordeal - to move forward and cross the border into Mikuni-Hulstria. The success of Operation Fly Swatter is a testimony to the consistent training/drilling of the Kongeforsvar, the effectiveness of the Kongeforsvar and impact of technology superiority and support. The Kongeforsvar ends the first phase of Operation Soul Rebel with a success as the ground forces punch swiftly and quickly into the Mikuni-Hulstrian homeland with 95% air superiority.

Kongelig Landethær launches Operations Soul Rebel Phase #2: Operation White Wash.

12th, August 4157

Defence Command has announced the commencement of the long anticipated Operation White Wash, Phase Two of Operation Soul Rebel. The Operation has one sole aim in mind: Secure the northern country side of Mikuni-Hulstria. The battle for the northern country side of Mikuni-Hulstria would commence the beginning of large scale infantry operations by the Kongeforsvar in the form of the Kongelig Landethær. The announcement of the commencement of operations was announced by a spokesperson from Defence Command during a press conference.

The Kongelig Landethær is expected to receive stiff opposition from both the Counter-Revolutionary Army and the Terra First! Army. Official statistics from the Military Intelligence Service have confirmed the presence of around 20-50k Counter-Revolutionary Army and the Terra First! Army fighters in the northern region of Mikuni-Hulstria, but have also confirmed the movement of forces of the Counter-Revolutionary Army to the southern regions as it is being stated that they are planning a counter-offensive against the Constitutionalist government.

The Kongelig Landethær is currently pushing four (4) divisions in the northern country side and from reports, clashes are still ongoing. It was stated by officials from Defence Command that once the Kongelig Landethær secured the northern country side, reinforcements will be sent as the remaining six (6) Divisions of the Kongelig Landethær prepare for mass mobilization. Reports from on the ground stated that there have been sighting of stolen Mikuni-Hulstrian government heavy equipment such as armoured personnel carrier and tanks.

The current efforts of the Kongelig Landethær will be reinforced by the Kongelig Luftvåpen who are expected to conduct a series of combined arms roles, most important ensuring the air superiority achieved is kept and conducting close-air-support missions. It is uncertain as to whether, the Kongeforsvar will commit the entire of its capabilities whilst it is engaging the Counter-Revolutionary Army and Terra First! Army. But many believe that once and/or if the Kongeforsvar engages Government Forces, they will need to commit all assets.

"White Terror" in Counter-Revolutionary Held Territory, Emperor not Found in Palace
Image
Yasusada Loyalists take out their frustration at finding the Imperial Palace Empty on "evil capitalists". Though the Constitutionalists hastily claimed to have relocated the Emperor to Miyako, many rumours have begun to spread that the Emperor has "escaped" and is in hiding.

What could have been the ultimate victory has turned to a grave disappointment, as the Counter-Revolutionary Army has found no sign of the Emperor in the capital city. Whether the truth lies in the the persistent rumours amongst the peasantry that he wonders the countryside, living amongst the poor and suffering people, or in the Constitutionalist insistence that he is safe and sound in Miyako, it is a severe blow to Counter-Revolutionary morale that their thrust to the capital has failed to yield the legitimacy they need. Yasusada has insisted in his radio addresses to the nation that his nephew the Emperor was a prisoner, an allegation strong enough to divide the nation but without proof incapable of uniting it behind him. The Counter Revolutionary Armies High Command probably believed they could end the war quickly if they could only acquire the Imperial personage and have him address the nation on their behalf, resulting in the collapse of Constitutionalist legitimacy. Then, with the nation united behind him, Yasusada would have had a free hand to push north against the Kazulian invaders as the saviour of the nation. Now the Counter-Revolutionaries face a longer, protracted, conflict without a clear endgame. Caught between the Constitutionalists to the South, the Kazulian Army and the Terra First enclave Army to the North, a swift return to power seems more distant than ever. Now it shall be Kazulia that strikes South, while the Constitutionalists have not received the knock-out blow required to free up enough Counter-Revolutionary forces to defend against it. Rumbling of a Septemberist rising will have done little to ease Imperial Socialist nerves.

While it seems hard to believe the almost mythic stories, of the "Barefoot Emperor" who tramps the mountains pathways seeking enlightenment, bringing luck to the poor and helpless, speaks to animals and cures illness with a touch that have been circulating amongst the common people, but the fact the Constitutionalists have not simply brought the Emperor before the public in Miyako has lent a certain credence to the rapidly spreading legend. The Jihibukai Emperor was always seen as a messianic figure, and now a common people increasingly disillusioned with both sides of the war fought in his name whisper of the time he shall return to save them from foreign invaders and tyrannical governments alike.

Meanwhile, the Imperial Socialists have struck out against those who removed from power decades ago. Upon assuming control of the capital, the High Command of the Counter-Revolutionary Army has declared marital law and has begun brutally suppressing so-called "capitalist customs" and "enemy cults." Determined to cement their power with terror, now the symbolic authority of the messiah Emperor is denied them, Yasusada shows little mercy to those who defy the edicts of his military government. Sympathisers with the enemy, religious groups loyal to the Imperial Patriarch, known supporters of the Constitutionalist Revolution and suspected Septemberists have all been forced to either commit Tēnko and renounce their crimes or else face death, torture and imprisonment. Public executions and humiliations of those deemed enemies of the Counter-Revolution have become common.

Kongelig Landethær Secures Northern Countryside; Launches largest deployment of forces.
Kongelig Landethær launches Operations Soul Rebel Phase #3: Operation Night-shift.

12th, August 4157

Earlier this morning it was announced the Kongelig Landethær that its 7th-10th Divisions secured the Northern countryside of Mikuni-Hulstria, where members of the Counter-Revolutionary Army and the Terra First! Army operated. With the Kongelig Landethær being able to secure the northern countryside, Defence Command mobilized the remaining six (6) divisions of the Kongelig Landethær which were on stand-by for rapid mobilization. The northern countryside was reported of having the highest concentration of Terra First! militia men - a statistic from the Military Intelligence Service pointed out. Currently the 7th-10th Divisions are reported to be creating a defensive line from the territory which they have secured in northern Byūdenrā to southern-eastern Harusutoria. Although there are reports of pockets of resistance in the Kazulian controlled northern countryside, officials from the Ministry of Defence have confirmed the commencement of joint operations between Military Police and the 2nd Etterretningbrigaden to "weed out" said resistance pockets.

Focusing on the Kongeforsvar's recently launched operations in Western Mikuni-Hulstria; The Kongelig Landethær supported by the Kongelig Marinen and the Kongelig Luftvåpen, launched a series of attacks against the Constitutionalist Army, the Mamuryūken. The Kongelig Marinen, in the form of the Regional Response Task Force and the Support and Auxiliary Task Force are currently engaged in surface and submarine warfare with the aging, ill-equipped and ill trained Mikuni-Hulstrian Navy. Under the cover of the conflict in the Eastern Anantonese Sea, the multi-role amphibious assault ship/aircraft carrier, KNOS-Queen Ingrid launched combined operations on the western coast of Mikuni-Hulstria. It is reported that two (2) Jegerbrigadens, and the entirety of the Division of Kultiverts launched a massive amphibious assault in the province of Kārasā.

The amphibious assault allowed for the Jegerbrigadens and the Division of Kultiverts to secure northern beachhead of the province. It was reported that three (3) Fallskjerm-brigadens reinforced the efforts of the Jegers and Kultiverts by launching an airborne assault on the western city of Māchō, which is considered to be shipping centre of the country. Clashes between the Fallskjerm-brigadens and the Mamuryūken are still ongoing, but many defence analysts have confirmed that these clashes will end in an unconditional defeat to the Mamuryūken in the city, as the Kongelig Luftvåpen are conducting airstrikes on sorties throughout the country as they exercise their reign in air superiority. Although the momentum is strong, with the deployment of all divisions of the Kongelig Landethær, it is expected that this momentum will slow down as it would become apparent to Defence Command as to the size of the Kongelig Landethær. But once against Defence Analysists have pointed out the existence of conscripts and massive reserve force of the Kongelig Landethær, approximately 200,000 reserve troops stand ready for deployment, with around an additional 200,000 conscripts.

Chief of Defence Staff, Sigve Aagard announced that under direct orders from King Arvid II, that he was to ensure the suffering of Kazulians in Mikuni-Hulstrian captivity in the past, will be repaid with the death of the Emperor of Mikuni-Hulstria, the Head of the Counter-Revolutionary Army, the Head of the Terra First! Army and the Head of the Mamuryūken and subsequently anyone who dares to step in the way of the Kazulian steamroller. It was reported that King Arvid II had specifically requested the Head of the Mikuni-Hulstrian "Barefoot" Emperor, but officials from the Directorate-General for Kingdom Affairs have denounced these claims.

A memorandum of understanding on military coordination between the self-governing Septemberist Gemeindens and the Kingdom of Kazulia was signed in the Septembrist capital of Hennersdam-Numamura. This is a landmark agreement for the Gemeindens and the wider September Movement in Mikuni-Hulstria, forming partnership with the Kingdom of Kazulia separate to the Government of Mikuni-Hulstria. The memorandum is intended to encompass the war against both the Imperial Government and the Constitutionalists, with the liberation of Syakusen being an initial focus. The Agreement was signed between Commanding Officer of the Kongeforsvar in Mikuni-Hulstria and Chief of Defence Staff, General Sigve Aagard and Septembrist Chairman Bürggraf Goddestreu.

In the memorandum, the Kingdom of Kazulia committed to provide military and financial support to the Landsbürgerwehr forces on the front-lines and also to provide support for the Landsbürgerwehr in the war against the Imperial Government and the Constitutionalists, with particular focus on southern operations. In his address to the heads of the various Gemeindens, General Aaagard stated that the Landsbürgerwehr are a crucial force in upcoming operations in the southern end of Mikuni-Hulstria. "The Landsbürgerwehr will play an extremely important role in the operations to come, operations which are centred/focused on the southern end of Mikuni-Hulstria."

It is expected that the Kongeforsvar will dispatch a contingent of military advisers to the Landsbürgerwehr as a means of guiding their campaign with strategic sense. It was assumed by defence analysts that the Kongelig Luftvåpen will be the only direct military support to the Landsbürgerwehr as they are expected to conduct airstrikes on behalf of the Landsbürgerwehr, they does not have air capabilities. The reason for the Landsbürgerwehr not having direct Landethær support, as in actual Landethær soldiers fighting side-by-side with Landsbürgerwehr militiamen comes as Lieutenant General Aaagard wishes to keep to the objectives and the capabilities of both the Kongeforsvar and the Landsbürgerwehr parallel. Executive officer of the Kongeforsvar in Mikuni-Hulstria, Lieutenant-General Magnus Handeland stated that he too supports for marginalization of objectives between the Kongeforsvar and the Landsbürgerwehr.

Septembrist Defection
Constitutionalist forces defect to Landsbürgerwehr

Image

September 4158 - As the three-way war between the Constitutionalist government, the Counter-Revolutionary Army, and the self-governing Septemberist Gemeindens in alliance with Kazulia rages, the fortunes of the former governing regime of Mikuni-Hulstria are now dimmer than ever. Although Hofuman Hideshi's forces managed to recover some of the losses suffered since the fall of Labsburg to the Counter-Revolutionary Army by taking advantage of the fact that the Kazulian invasion continues to primarily target Yasusada's army, a number of militias affiliated with the Constitutionalists have since switched sides and officially aligned themselves with the self-governing commune in Hennersdam-Numamura. The Constitutional Party has from its very beginning contained a strong if subdued Septembrist streak, resulting in the creation of the uneasy coalition between Septembrists, ecologists, adherents of new religious movements, Hulstro-Mikun nationalists, and conservatives which governed the nation following the assassination of the previous Emperor, however apart from an as of yet unrealized commitment to establishing a constitution for the Reich, there was little holding this divergent coalition together. And now that the 15th of September Movement is gaining momentum, the Septembrist members of the governing party in the South are defecting to the re-established civilian administration in Mitrania. And it is not just some of the civilian membership of the party that defected to the Septembrists. A number of Hosian and Kamist militias under Constitutionalist control operating in Hirugā (Hilgar) have formally cut ties to the regime in Miyako, established their own cantonal government in Hirugā, and pledged allegiance to the interim government in Hennersdam-Numamura. Although, due to the small number of the defecting militias, estimated to number not more than 30,000 troops, this may not be enough to turn the tide of the conflict towards the still small Landsbürgerwehr and the Kazulian invasion, these defections will now prevent the Constitutionalists from taking full advantage of the Kazulian attacks on Counter-Revolutionary forces and casting themselves as the defenders of Hulstro-Mikun independence and freedom, and more dangerously for President Hofuman there is now a Septembrist foothold not far from his temporary capital of Miyako.

Septembrists in full control of Syakusen
Virtually all of Crownland Mitrania now under Septembrist control

March 4159 - After months of fighting to protect the large parts of the Mitoranian capital that had joined the Septembrist uprising already against the aristocrats in control of the city, the Reichsbürgerwehr militia of the Free Imperial Crownlands, assisted by loyal officers of the Syakusen Police Department, has secured the entire city of Syakusen-Graaffsberg for the Septembrist rival government. Festivities abounded in the Mitoranian capital as citizens welcomed the government of the Free Imperial Crownlands (whose nominal capitals are still Miyako and Kien, controlled by the Constitutionalists and Counter-Revolutionaries, respectively) and of the new Crownland and Free State of Mitrania to the city, singing spontaneous choruses of Golden Empire, the Gao-Soto national anthem, and the Septembrist Hymn, Land of Our Fathers, officially the anthem of the Free Crownlands. At its first sitting in the Crownland Diet building at Syakusen, the Imperial Diet confirmed a Basic Law for the Free Imperial Crownlands as a provisional constitution until a more permanent constitution could be drafted following a potential reunion of the Crownlands under Septembrist rule.

Bürggraf Florian Goddestreu, the provisional Governor-General and Chairman of the Septembrist Movement, said the welcome had moved him: "Here we are in a city that hasn't had its best of times in the past months, and the amount of hope for the future, the amount of warmth is quite frankly astounding." Egon Gubler, the Minister-President of Mitorania's Septembrist government said "... with the liberation of Syakusen, Mitorania has its heart back." Meanwhile, the Commandant of the Reichsbürgerwehr, Mainratto Kogoyama, said members of the militia would be assisting the civil police forces in maintaining order while forces continue the fight to protect self-governing Cantons in the as-of-yet unreformed Crownlands, specificially Hilgar and Kuratha: "As increasing parts of the country turn to freedom, we do what the Diet has charged us with: protect the free and loyal Imperial citizens who have made that choice. We're a defence force, not an aggressing army."

Kongeforsvar reinforcements arrive to Mikuni-Hulstria: Kongelig Landethær hard-charge to Mikuni-Hulstrian capital.

12th, August 4157

The Ministry of Defence announced the mobilization of all reservists of the Kongelig Landethær and of the Kongelig Heimevernet. With the momentum of the initial force slowing down, the Ministry of Defence has decided to reinforce said force with reservists. There are estimated to be around two-hundred thousand (200,000) reservists of the Kongelig Landethær current being deployed to the battlefield in Mikuni-Hulstria, thus bringing the number of Kongeforsvar military personnel to around three-hundred thousand (300,000) persons. Currently Defence Command has already integrated some reserves into a series of operations to come in the future.

Focusing on the Kongeforsvar's push to the Mikuni-Hulstrian capital of Miyako; With the sea-side city of Māchō besieged and currently under control of the Kongeforsvar, the initial three (3) Fallskjerm-brigadens have been reinforced by a considerable three (3) Pansrede infanteribrigadens as a means of reinforcing the push of the Fallskjerm-brigadens through-out the province of Kārasā. Recently the Kongelig Luftvåpen along with various Etterretningbrigadens conducted a series of listening operations by which they either tapped into the radio frequencies of the Mamuryūken and the Counter-Revolutionary Army whilst other operations were focused on jamming radio frequencies.

Official reports from Defence Command state that the Kongelig Landethær in the form of three (3) Fallskjerm-brigadens, three (3) Pansrede infanteribrigadens, the Division of Kultiverts, three (3) Artilleribrigadens and the apparently the Hæren spesialkommando are expected to hard-charge to the provisional capital of the Great Reich of Mikuni-Hulstria, Miyako. The currently clashes are on-going, but many expect the operation itself to be extremely long and may even need its own phases. It is expected that as the conflict progresses, reinforcements with pour in as conscripts have also been sent into active service, with around two-hundred thousand (200,000) conscripts being sent into training as of this morning.

It is reported that the Military Intelligence Service is currently on a man-hunt for the "barefoot" Emperor as many say that he is an imperative to the establishment of Kazulian dominance in the region. When asked to confirm said reports, officials from the Ministry of Defence denounced the statements calling them "preposterous and a spore of the Hulstrian psychological campaign."
