Nobody could quite believe it until the votes were all counted, but it has finally happened - the Dorvish Communist Party's Nuclear Disarmament Act has been narrowly voted through the Staatsrat by 260 to 250 votes.
Dorvik first acquired nuclear weapons 20 years ago in 4294, and many of the nuclear missiles have been named after prominent Dorvish politicians, which will make their dismantlement all the more embarrassing to them and the parties they represented.
For the Communists, the passing of this bill comes as the culmination of a long and hard-fought campaign against nuclear weapons. However, whilst celebrating the vote in the Staatsrat, Communist leader Anton Weinreich has said "our work is far from over and we still have a long way to go". He called for Dorvik to go further, and outlaw all research into nuclear weapons, and also explicitly make it illegal for other nations to site nuclear weapons on Dorvish territory. He also called on "governments around Terra to take heed of what we have achieved and the example we have set, and take a lead in putting nuclear weapons and the development of nuclear weapons to an end". "We will only rest," he said, "when we have a Terra that is completely nuclear free".
Weinreich has written to Arthur Faber, the Minister of Defence, asking him to "authorise the filming of the nuclear disarmament process live on television, so the whole world can see what we are doing, and be inspired to the follow the same path we are following".
