Rise of extremism in Luthori - The end of democracy?

Luthori is currently under the spotlight as a result of the latest political developments.

Background

Since around 5300, the right-wing Constitutional Democratic Union (https://particracy.fandom.com/wiki/Cons ... atic_Union) was the dominant party in Luthori. However, it became challenged primarily by the far-right Salvation and Fatherland Front parties. In the 5351 parliamentary elections (https://particracy.fandom.com/wiki/5351 ... y_election), the far-right Fatherland Front was already the largest party and caused a significant political crisis in Luthori that was resolved by the FF losing votes over time.
However, the political stability became threatened again by the surge of the far-left Worker's Party of Luthori in 5358 (https://particracy.fandom.com/wiki/5358 ... y_election). Another political crisis ensued and the CDU was faced with a dilemma : a coalition with republicans or the Fatherland Front.

A coalition with the Fatherland Front

In October 5362 was formed the Second Emily Harrington ministry (https://particracy.fandom.com/wiki/Seco ... n_ministry) , a coalition between the right-wing CDU and far-right FF. The leader of the Fatherland Front Dan Penning became Secretary of State for the Home Department and moderated in the first time, apparently as a strategy to gather the conservative vote over time.
Despite frictions and tensions, the coalition regained its majority in 5365 and 5368, with the right-wing faction of the CDU gaining ground in the 5368 election. As a result, a Third Emily Harrington ministry (https://particracy.fandom.com/wiki/Thir ... n_ministry) was formed in 5368. The new cabinet passed significantly more conservative policies than the previous ones, restoring the death penalty and banning euthanasia, pornography and prostitution. Feeling that a breach had opened in Luthori, the far-right Fatherland Front decided to propose more radical policies in parliament at the same time, in order to foster a revolution. Those policies were mostly struck down by the CDU.
Protests (https://particracy.fandom.com/wiki/5371 ... n_protests) broke out in December 5371, as a result of the conservative policies passed by both the CDU and FF. As hundreds of thousands of people gathered in the capital Fort William, the CDU ministers decided to submit their resignation from the cabinet and disavow the Fatherland Front as coalition partners, citing disagreements over legislation proposals by the FF. However, the Empress Elizabeth decided to refuse their resignation, citing the need for a caretaker cabinet.

The 5372 snap elections
The 5372 elections (https://particracy.fandom.com/wiki/5372 ... y_election) are seen as a shock by the international press. As commentators expected the far-right to lose votes as a result of the protests, the unexpected happened. The CDU voters flocked to the Fatherland Front as they echoed Penning's calls for a fundamental transfomation of the Luthorian society. Also, the far-left Workers' Party of Luthori made large gains in the election, becoming the third largest party with 17% of the votes.
Emboldened by the massive support received in the polls, the Fatherland Front proposal a controversial judicial reform in the Imperial Diet.
At the same time, the Kazulian government issued a strong condemnation of the Fatherland Front and their projects, turning away from their previous plans of making Luthori an ally (viewtopic.php?f=17&t=59&start=1160#p188131)

Still no coalition government in sight.

The situation in Luthori is a total deadlock, as no party wants to ally with the Fatherland Front and Dan Penning anymore. In addition to that, the Workers' party of Luthori doesn't want to govern or support a cabinet including the CDU.
Although the CDU had previously resigned from the cabinet, Her Majesty Elizabeth decided to keep the current CDU-FF coalition in power as a caretaker cabinet. Other proposals were made for a caretaker cabinet, but they all failed.
Experts see snap elections very likely, as the Luthorian political turmoil is far from being over.

Don't know if this is just for information or if this is an RP thread, but, I would push for the connection of this RP with this one which is being discussed in Luthori: http://classic.particracy.net/viewbill. ... lid=694545
