I'm not sure I need a full request but could 'The nation's policy on the separation of the police and the military' be changed to something along the lines of 'The nation's policy on the separation of the police and the military (if a police force is in operation)', given that there is the option for the government not to operate/fund one and all of the options for this variable refer to a police force existing?

This is further complicated because there's another law set ("National military policy") which includes the law option:

The nation does not maintain any professional or voluntary army, naval or air force.

That could sit with the option which says the military plays no part in the police force, though.
