Propose and review new legislative variables for the game.

Campaign Finance and Advertising

Postby BananaZebra » Wed Sep 04, 2024 12:33 am

This is a proposal that would allow players more in-depth control of their nation's electoral/campaign regulations, as well as the RP-opportunity of state-sponsored censorship to promote/demote an ideology (with the only real effect being the party that passed the law's position changing, obviously).

Private funding of political campaigns (if private funding is allowed)

Law/Policy Category: Administrative

Options:
1) All private donations and contributions are allowed, and do not need to be disclosed. (default).
2) All private donations and contributions are allowed, but they must be disclosed.
3) Third-party private donations are allowed, but self-financing of a campaign is not; all donations must be disclosed.
4) Third-party private donations are allowed, but self-financing of a campaign is not; donations do not need to be disclosed.

Effects:
1) Large increase to small government
2) Little increase to small government
3) Little increase to big government
4) Large increase to big government

Comments: This would allow players to RP their nation’s campaign finance laws in depth, and also give more opportunities for parties to define unique ideologies – an intent with all of my suggestions, quite honestly. (It’s all about deepening RP opportunities!)

Policy on political advertisements (Quantity per cycle, if allowed)

Law/Policy Category: Media

Options:
1) The national government sets a low quota on the quantity of political advertisements per election cycle.
2) The national government sets a high quota on the quantity of political advertisements per election cycle.
3) The national government does not set limits on the quantity of political advertisements per election cycle. (Default)
4) This issue is left to the local governments.

Effects:
1) Little increase to centralization, large increase of big government, little decrease to civil liberties
2) Little increase to centralization, little increase of big government, little decrease to civil liberties
3) Little increase to federalism, little increase of small government, little increase to civil liberties
4) Large increase to federalism, large increase of small gov, large increase to civil liberties

Policy on political advertisements (Content allowed)

Law/Policy Category: Media

Options:
1) The national government bans all political advertising.
2) The national government restricts the right-wing content of political advertisements.
3) The national government restricts the left-wing content of political advertisements.
4) The national government restricts the content of political advertisements to ensure factual accuracy.
5) The national government sets no restrictions on the content of political advertisements. (Default)
6) This issue is left to the local governments.

Effects:
1) Large increase to centralization, large increase to restrictive
2) Large increase to centralization, large increase to big government, large increase to regulator, little increase to restrictive
3) Large increase to centralization, large increase to big government, large increase to free market, little increase to restrictive
4) Large increase to centralization, little increase to restrictive
5) Little increase to federalism, little increase to small government, little increase to permissive
6) Large increase to federalism, little increase to small government, little increase to permissive

Policy on political advertisements (Restriction to a set election cycle)

Law/Policy Category: Media

Options:
1) The national government restricts political parties, candidates, and individuals from releasing political advertisements outside of the official campaign period.
2) The national government does not restrict political parties, candidates, and individuals from releasing advertisements outside of the official campaign period. (Default)
3) This issue is left to the local governments.

Effects:
1) Small increase to nationalization, small increase to restrictive
2) Small increase to federalism, large increase to permissive
3) Large increase to federalism, small increase to permissive
