Grand Duke Magnus passes
April, 4439

Grand Duke Magnus has passed away at the age of 87; he had complications from heart surgery. Crown Prince Magnus II, who for the last 5 years of his fathers reign acted as Regent when his father was away. The Wolfsheim Stock Exchange dipped slightly on the announcement of the Grand Dukes passing but regained shortly after. The Grand Duke accomplished many great feats, including bringing Ostland into a powerful Dovani ally of the Northern Council, bringing economic success and openness to Ostland as well as bridging the gap between Kunihito and Ostlander's. Chief Minister Wakasugi Tomohik spoke immediately following the death of the Grand Duke and stated his sorrow at the lose of such a great man. Crowds of Kunihito were seen marching through the streets carrying banners and carrying candles, commemorating the memory of the Grand Duke who stopped their repression. Chief Minister Tomohik announced that the Grand Duke of Ostland would also inherit the title of "Prince of Touryou" which the Chief Minister noted is the "...leader of the Touryou state and the leader of the Kunihito people in Ostland."

Several days of mourning have been planned. Aging State Chancellor Karsten von Prochnow has announced his retirement; it is expected he’ll announce that Florian Riechert will overtake the Ostland government as State Chancellor. The State Chancellor is appointed by the Grand Duke and is primarily responsible with government operations in Ostland. Several days of mourning will commence 1 May 4439 and end on 6 May 4439 where the Crown Prince will overtake his father as Grand Duke Magnus II. The new Grand Duke was educated in Dorvik, Hulstria, Kazulia and spent several years in the Ostland Navy where he achieved the rank of Captain of the Sea (Dundorfian: Kapitän zur See), the equivalent of a Colonel (Dundorfian: Oberst) in the Landwehr. Crown Prince Magnus is currently 37 and has a very popular image within the Kunihito community, he is currently engaged to Nishiyama Shino, the daughter of the powerful Nishiyama family, who hold the rank of "Count" in the Kunihito nobility. Crown Prince Magnus is the first Ostland royal family member to be engaged to a Kunihito and is widely seen as a reformer much like his father.

Despite the fact that the Crown Prince has effectively ruled Ostland in the past several years, the Crown Prince has done little of his reform program that he is expected to announce at his coronation.

Ostland set to benefit from NC-based re-construction
May, 4439

Wolfsheim - In the wake of Grand Duke Magnus I death, the Ostland economy was a little rocky but the prospects of Grand Duke Magnus II and his new attitude on Ostland was further reinforced when Ostland alongside New Alduria was chosen as the jumping point for the Northern Council's Dovani Transitional Authority; which seeks to re-build Dovani. State Chancellor Florian Riechert spoke at a press conference with the Grand Duke and the Touryou State's Chief Minister Wakasugi Tomohik which all agreed that the presence of Northern Council troops, officials and businesses will provide a stable basis for Ostland's economy. State Chancellor Riechert announced a massive government reformation was in the works and that he had been personally tasked by the Grand Duke Magnus II to carry out these reforms.

Ostland has already promised to do what it can to support NC operations out of Ostland. Ostland has formed several dozen constructional battalions of citizens to work to build roads with funding directly injected into Ostland by initial investments by both the Dovani Transitional Authority and the State Commissariat "Dovani". Aayden Krauszer, a noted air port engineer was charged with building a larger airport in Richtersfelden, located in central Ostland. To be known as Grand Duke Magnus I International Airport will be the center of further operations in Dovani for the NC and will provide a welcoming path for many goods and trade into Ostland.

The Ostland Landwehr Chief of the General Staff Florian Magnus zu Zÿmern und Behm has raised several dozen new regiments which are meant to augment the NC operations, most notably giving them underneath the direct control of the State Commissariat "Dovani". The Touryou State has also raised several dozen construction battalions and new divisions meant to augment security operations located throughout Dovani.

Aging Grand Duke Magnus II plans for retirement
May, 4484

Wolfsheim - A meeting behind closed doors today was held between State Chancellor Claus Wilhelm von Pölzl and Grand Duke Magnus II, the successor of now entitled "Grand Duke Magnus the Great" in high-level talks to discussion abdication. A crowd gathered outside the Grand Duke's residence, waving flags and celebrating the accomplishments of the Grand Duke who brought Ostland in the 45th century with many reforms and economic changes to Ostland. It has been known for sometime now that the Grand Duke's health was failing and more and more Crown Prince Florian was seen at political events, such as the annual new years celebration and the opening of the Eastern Land Council. Shortly after the meeting the Grand Duke's household announced that the Grand Duke would abdicated in June of 4484 and that Crown Prince Florian would succeed him as the Grand Duke. State Chancellor von Pölzl, a newcomer to the position and part of a political dynasty that has seen service in Dorvik, Dundorf and in the Volksdundorfische Cultural Association, has stated that he is eager to get to work and that the support of the Eastern Land Council is integral to success of Ostland. The meeting was also attended by the the Touryou State's Chief Minister, who has pledged to work with State Chancellor to "...build Ostland into a modern nation continually."

The Wolfsheim Stock Exchange dipped slightly on the news of the retirement of the Grand Duke but recovered before close at the end of the business day. Economically, Ostland had a boon following the Dovani War where Ostland had been the launching point for many of the rebuilding efforts during the "State Commissariat for Dovani" in which Hutori and Dorvik poured billions of LOD into Dovani. Ostland benefited greatly from a further relationship with Dorvik and numerous Dorvish businessmen and women found themselves with a second home in Ostland. Since the rise of tensions in Artania many former Dundorfian and Dorvish nobles have fled to Ostland and have taken up semi-permanent residence in Ostland where they are welcomed due to favorable policies of Volksdundorfische. One notable feature is the inclusion of the VDKV as essentially a functional government agency in Ostland, allowing them to work as a sanctioned political organization and almost an organ of the state.

A New Era for Ostland?
August, 4484

State Chancellor Claus Wilhelm von Pölzl Announced today a wide-scale constitutional reform. Entitled as the “Law on the Organization of the State” the new law returned ministries and focused more on solidifying the position of the Touryou State within the Grand Duchy of Ostland, formally entitling the Grand Duke as Prince of Touryou. The State Chancellor also announced that Grand Duke Florian has approved a new massive railway project; a focal point of von Pölzl’s chancellorship. The new project would connect Ostland via new and upgraded existing railway lines.

Ostland also will undergo a significant change in its national sub-division structure. Information is scarce but the Interior Ministry was given a wide berth on the reform. What is know however is that Ostland will have elected local officials for the first time outside major metropolitan areas and will have a significant focus on localized government in a move seen to further strengthen the economy. While super-projects and national mega projects remain the focus of bringing Ostland continually up to speed, these smaller projects boost local economies and overall increase the national economy.

Several further port expansion projects have been launched. Alongside the railroad project the Ostland government has launched a program to build up small and mid-sized businesses in the areas of railway stations; including restaurants and service industries. The Ministry of Economics and Finance has launched a new program focused on such efforts and has allocated nearly 250m Ostland Marks to the program. The Ministry of Economics and Finance also announced a new natural resources mercantile exchange; mostly focusing on Ostland abundance of natural resources and it’s access one of the largest fishing industries in the world.

What also should be noted is that the Interior Ministry will have it’s own separate structure for these new national sub-divisions; likely to remain what they currently are to ensure that the central government remains in control. One notably feature is that the Legislative Council of the Touryou State was granted 25 elective seats, making only 100 of the remaining seats appointed. The new law also granted the Touryou State controls over their local government.

An important piece of legislation also followed the passage of the summer legislation. The VDKVs Security Service was granted “armed forces auxiliary organization” status underneath Ostland law; effectively making them a legal paramilitary organization. A flood of recruits have flocked to join the Security Service since being granted the auxiliary status.

The Ostland Landwehr underneath the auspices of new Minister of Defense and Chief of Staff of the Landwehr General Staff Augustus Friedrich von Rohr-Mauss, stated that a significant reform of the armed forces would be undertaken. The Fliegertruppe would have a paratrooper regiment added to it modeled after the Dundorfian and Dorvish Fallschirmjäger, while infantry and armored divisions would be reformed and reorganized. 2 new mountain/alpine divisions would be added from smaller infantry units and the addition of security or static infantry regiments would be added to major cities.

Ostland procures military equipment
November, 4485

Wolfsheim - The Eastern Land Council approved an arms deal last night of roughly 5b LOD between the Ostland Landwehr and the Artanian Defense Group for a wide variety of equipment, notably the introduction of AWCS into the Ostland Air Force as well as a variety of aircraft including a batch of 12 Unionfighters. It is the first time that the Ostland Landwehr has approved an arms deal since the end of the Dovani War, any purchases have been with contracts that existed prior to the outbreak of the war. This arms deal is seen as a means for Ostland to further cement its position on the continent and the addition of aerial forces coincides with the announcement that the Ostland Air Force has added a Fallschirmjäger (paratrooper/airborne) regiment to the ToE of the Ostland Air Forces; the excitement was clearly visible when General of the Paratroopers Karlheinz von Eisenhaus-Pilc, the first man to be promoted such a rank, spoke to a gathered crowd of reporters outside of the ELC building in Wolfsheim during an early morning snow. "Ostland is in a position to make a positive change for Dovani, the addition of the feared Fallschirmjäger training program will provide Ostland the ability to have a quick response force throughout Ostland and in the surrounding area." General von Eisenhaus-Pilc stated; he was joined by former Colonel Laurin von Wandel of the Dorvish Air Force and a descendant of storied airborne instructor Lieutenant Karlis Wandel, a bearer of the Dorvish Cross.

The deal also includes maintenance and supply training for the Ostland Air Force on the Unionfighter; while slowly aging, the continual updates and modernizations being conducted by various air forces have provided the Artanian Defense Group with a steady stream of modifications to make to the aircraft to keep them updated. It is likely that the bloc of 12 Unionfighters will be deployed to Wolfsheim International Airport where Wolfsheim Air Base is located and will provide the primary support for the Ostland Air Force when necessary, replacing a variety of aging (but still relevant and being updated) ADG Tornado-series aircraft.

Eastern State Railways completes first leg of project
April, 4488

Mistelfeld Province - Grand Duke Florian alongside State Chancellor Claus Wilhelm von Pölzl were at the ceremony finishing the first leg of the Eastern State Railways, the national railway of the Grand Duchy of Ostland. The primary route carries the railway from the Wolfsheim Central Station and carries it through all provinces south of Wolfsheim and ends in Mistelfeld; the Grand Duchy is hoping to make connections with public and private railways in Sekowo and Hulstria & Gao-Soto. The project was ambitious and was primarily funded by Ostfirma and the Reich Construction Service, a wing of the Volksdundorfische Cultural Association that focuses on construction projects throughout the world and is one of the largest construction companies and owns dozens of subsidiaries. The estimated cost of the project is close to 250m LOD with the second leg of the project looking to finish within the next two years, and the final two legs over the next six years. The Grand Duke himself rode on the train, it was a symbolic gesture but was met with much enthusiasm by the people of Ostland including attendance from the leadership of the Touryou State who have contributed thousands of laborers to the project.

The event was underneath heavy guard from the Ostland Landwehr and the Security Service of the VDKV; the first public presence of the Security Service since its inception as a formal state auxiliary of the Grand Duchy of Ostland. The Security Service personnel that were in attendance were equipped with smaller caliber weapons such as handguns and other small arms, the Ostland Landwehr provided the majority of the security for the event. The presence of the Volunteer Security Battalion 1 of the 1st Volunteer Security Regiment "Felix Bellegarde", named after the commander in the Narik-Malivian War who commanded the regiment, was followed by the presence of the VDKV's recruitment teams who were seen signing up potential new members. The Ostland Air Force also provided a fly over by the 12 new ADG Unionfighters that were recently purchased, a sight that shows that Ostland is seriously interested in shaking off its "colonial" past. What might be even more interesting is the presence of a company of the Eastern Army, the Touryou State's military force, as additional security to the event this is the first time that the Eastern Army (known as the Togun) provided security at a public event.

The presence of nearly 1,500 Kunihito and 2,500 Ostlander laborers were paraded around alongside their machinery and their equipment; the usual fanfare for the Grand Duchy of Ostland.

Ostland condemns Tropicas undemocratic nature
May, 4488

Wolfsheim - State Chancellor Claus Wilhelm von Pölzl spoke earlier today to a crowd gathered outside of the State Chancllery building. The State Chancellor regularly holds press conferences alongside key government officials and if weather permits, takes the speeches outside. The speech today focused on the developing Ostland economy, he was joined by State Forest Association head and several other logging specialist when talking about growing the timber industry in Ostland as it was a central staple to the northern provinces economies. Much of northern Ostland is covered in dense forests, often known as the “Schwarzwald” or Black Forest In Luthorian.

The State Chancellor also condemned the move by undemocratic Tropica, a neighbor and a fellow Dovani nation for their banning of political parties. The State Chancellor swiftly condemned the move and the Main Office of Foreign Affairs echoed this move by releasing a press statement alongside the State Chancellors comments. “We’ve struggled in our past with such actions and I can say for certain that we should not have such undemocratic actions being enforced in the 45th century. This is appalling and we are actively exploring all measures against Tropica.” The State Chancellor noted he was concerned for Dovani citizens even so many years after the Dovani War that killed millions from around the world.

Ostland celebrates independence, bevy of political and military appointments
October, 4488

Wolfsheim - Outside of Wolfs Den (Dundorfian: Wolf Höhle) the Grand Duke held an elaborate ceremony which was presided over by outgoing Chief of Staff of the Landwehr General Staff Augustus Friedrich von Rohr-Mauss (who returned to the service of the Dorvish Armed Frces); the new incoming Minister of Defense and Chief of Staff was unsurprisingly General of the Paratroopers Karlheinz von Eisenhaus-Pilc, the feared special forces commander whose got his eyes set on a massive reform to the Ostland Landwehr and a professionalization quest that has Grand Duke Florian I salivating for more. The appointment is also joined by the announcement that the Major Aayden Sydel von Völknitz-Siezenhaus was be taking over the role of Chief of the Political Intelligence Bureau; the de facto domestic intelligence and counterintelligence agency of Ostland. Karlheinz von Eisenhaus-Pilc will be promoted to the rank of Generaloberst which roughly translates to Colonel-General but does not translate into Luthorian very well. General von Eisenhaus-Pilc will be one of the first Ostland officers promoted to such a rank.

The Grand Duke announced that the second leg of the Eastern State Railways had almost been completed and was nearing completion "soon". The celebration was followed by the opening of the October session of the Eastern Land Council where a bevy of new legislation was approved. Grand Duke Florian I announced that Ostland would be seeking greater cooperation with Dovani and non-Dovani nations, citing the fact that Ostland needed to enter the modern world and needed to ensure that it survived. Ostland is also a large launching point for trade with Sekowo and Hulstria and Gao-Soto but the regions tensions have a tendency to boil over. The future of Dovani in the post-Dovani War world relies heavily upon the cooperation between Dovani nations, any further tensions could break down the lasting success that the Dovani nations have had following the war.

Ostland and Dorvik celebrate state visit
November, 4489

Wolfsheim - Dorvish Minister of Foreign Affairs Eckhart Röhr had a stop over in Ostland in order to celebrate the foundation of relations between the two nations. Grand Duke Florian joined the Foreign Minister of Dorvik as well as several other officials. The meeting was scheduled but had been moved up upon request of the Dorvish delegation, namely at the request of General-Plenipotentiary to Ostland Heinz Schädler. The discussion between Ostland and Dorvik focused on deepening industrial ties to the country and directly impacts the investment of the Eastern State Railways, which the Dorvish State Railways has shown interest in investing in. The departure of Dorvik from the Northern Council leaves questions for the Dorvish naval base that served as a joint operations center for the Northern Council, namely the Hutorian, Kazulian and Dorvish joint forces which operated during the Dovani War. The Chief Minister of the Touryou State was also present for the meeting and the Dorvish showed great interest in an industrialization of the heavily agricultural south of Ostland.

The Minster of Trade and Industry Thaddäus Florian von Desidier is expected to make a visit to Ostland in the coming months to finalize the deal.
