This Afternoon in New Indrala the head of The YFF Rabbi Waldeck sat down with the chief of New Englia's Constabulary to sign a non aggression pact that would effective end any existing hostilities with the police in return for the following -

1. The Police will arm and train Yeudish Freedom Fighters in defense of their neighborhoods against Metzists and Inglian Anti Yeudites.

2. The Police will turn a blind eye to YFF operations

3. The Registration of Synagogues shall be declared null and void without exception. In return we shall fight the OLA.

OOC: Could we change this a bit? Three main points, really:

(i) I don't think it's unrealistic to suggest informal "deals" between the police and various paramilitaries are going on in parts of New Englia, but they would never be publicised or openly admitted to.

(ii) I don't think the police would give any arms or training to the YFF, given that that the YFF has targeted (and is targeting) the New Englian government.

(iii) I think it's plausible that the police might go a bit "lax" with registration of synagogues in certain areas of the country, if they see advantages in that...but if this was done, it would be done informally and would probably not be openly admitted to.

Government welcomes Beiteynu's commitment to end support for insurgency campaign
...and requests Uinseann Mac Giolla Phádraig extradition

Lord Protector Rafe Shevington has cautiously welcomed Beiteynu's announcement that it will cease its support for the Onglian Liberation Army (OLA) and will end its policy of harbouring OLA members. "This is positive news and a step in the right direction," he said, "but we do need to see them match their words with actions".

He furthermore suggested that "as a first step", Beiteynu should fulfil New Englia's request to arrest and extradite OLA leader Uinseann Mac Giolla Phádraig.

Government welcomes Trigunian observers

The government has welcomed the team of observers from Trigunia and promised to "give our Trigunian partners every co-operation and assistance that we can". Lord Protector Rafe Shevington added that "there are many, many misconceptions about New Englia all over Terra, and we hope that these international observers will be able to put the record straight".

Agricultural corporations agree to give shares to Onglian farmers

After the Onglian uprising in Central Province was crushed, the government seized the agricultural land there held by Onglian farmers and sold most of it to a series of large Inglian corporations. To the surprise of many, yesterday Agriculture Minister Wolstan Chaundeler announced at a press conference that the 5 largest agricultural corporations in Central Province, who own 90% of Central Province's agricultural land between them, had agreed to grant 10% of their company shares to their (mainly Onglian) employees. Chaundeler said the agreement was "a far-sighted move" which "proves beyond doubt that the Onglian farm labourers are not being treated unfairly". He added that the initiative for the scheme came as a suggestion from the Trigunian Observation Team.

Critics are pointing out that even if the corporations are giving away 10%, they are still holding onto the other 90% which was violently seized from Onglian owners at the end of the uprising. It is also being pointed out that at least part of the motivation for the shares giveaway is pure self-interest, as the corporations are keen to reduce the risk of further international sanctions and international consumer boycotts, which have already dented their profit margins.

Also, the Onglian Civil Rights Association (OCRA) claims to have studied the proposals in more detail, and to have noticed that in practice, the bulk of the shares are to be distributed to what are called "key workers". These "key workers" apparently disproportionately consist of senior managers, almost all of whom are well-paid Inglians.

Sure. I will delete my post and we'll conclude a deal via PM.

Government thanks Dorvik for support

Lord Protector Rafe Shevington has thanked the Dorvish Staatsrat for its proclamation of support, whilst also thanking them for voting down a counter-proposal to impose sanctions on New Englia. "Dorvik is a great and a well-respected nation in Terra", Shevington said. "We are greatly honoured, humbled and privileged to have their support, and we hope to work with them in every way we can to strengthen the ties between our two nations".

Parliament votes down bill to criminalise rape within marriage

Charles Panshawe MP of the National Party's liberal faction has failed in his effort to introduce a bill which would have finally made rape within marriage a criminal offence. The bill was voted down by 50 to 42. Internal Affairs Minister Timothy Chetwoode argued the proposal "would undermine the sanctity of private married life", "encourage women to rebel against their husbands" and "give women incentives to invent false allegations against their husbands". Lancelot Hoare, the Minister of Health, said "women do not have entirely logical minds when it comes to sexual consent", arguing that "wives often change their minds over whether or not their husbands raped them, so you can never tell whether what they are claiming at any one time is true". Godfrey Sibill, a populist backbencher from the conservative faction, claimed that passing the bill "would be the first step in the direction of opening the floodgates of the whole Feminist Agenda".

Beyond Parliament, Josias Brownflet, the Archbishop of New Indrala and leader of the Church of Engles, warned the bill "would create a situation where more women were cruelly refusing to have sex with their husbands, which would inevitably lead to more frustration, aggression and violence in our society". The bishops of the Aurorian Patriarchal Church (APC) in New Englia released a join statement supporting Panshawe's bill, although critics have accused the APC of not doing as much as it could have done to make its voice heard on the issue. Laighneach Mac Connmhaigh, the General Secretary of the Onglian Civil Rights Association, spoke out passionately in favour of the bill, although it has been noted that some of his senior colleagues within his organisation have been much more lukewarm on the issue.

Perica sends priceless historic Statrican bracelet to Claudia Thaller-Merenbürg

Image

Evard Perica, the former Statrican dictator now resident in New Englia, has sent Claudia Thaller-Merenbürg a precious ancient Statrican bracelet as gift for her upcoming wedding. This has provoked international outrage, as Perica is believed to have looted the artefact from the National Museum of Statrica in the months before he was forced from power. Thaller-Merenbürg and her husband, Otto Jäger-Wu, are coming under pressure to return the bracelet to Statrica.

YFF bombs Sewer system and Water treatment center

This evening the YFF detonated two bombs in New Indrala. One in the middle of the sewer underneath the city streets while another was detonated at the local water filtration center on the outskirts of town. So far no civilian casualties have been reported. However 4 security guards at the filtration center were killed during the latter operation. The YFF has claimed responsibility for the attacks. It is not yet certain as to when the next will occur.

Government de-funds Yeudish schools

Education Minister Fulke Harley has announced the government will no longer offer funding to Yeudish schools. The move is almost certain to lead to several dozen Yeudish schools closing across the country, although some private fee-paying and community-funded Yeudish schools will remain.

Harley denied the funding decision had any connection to the activities of the Yeudish Freedom Fighters. However, according to highly-placed sources, government ministers were becoming frustrated with what they saw as the failure of high-profile Yeudish rabbis and community leaders to provide a strong political endorsement of the government.

Avner Goldschmidt, the Chairman of the Yeudish Schools Association, and Isaac Paliakov, the Chief Rabbi of New Englia, issued a joint statement expressing "profound disappointment with the attitude of the government" and accusing the Education Minister of "playing politics with the educational, social, cultural and spiritual welfare of our children".

Anti-circumcision bill voted down in Parliament

Puritan MP Titus Leventhorpe has proposed a bill before Parliament banning the Yeudish ritual of circumcision, which he branded "unnatural, Satanailic child abuse". The bill was voted down by 73 to 19.

The Yeudish Freedom Fighters order Yeuds to cease paying taxes to the government and to boycott government businesses and schools

This morning Rabbi Waldeck of the YFF issued a proclamation requesting that all Yeuds cease paying their taxes and to instead take up the spirit of self reliance. Waldeck is quoted as having told reporters that "we don't need you anymore we can pull our own wait thank you very much!" Waldeck also asked that all Yeuds conduct a boycott of businesses affiliated or in support of government policy.

Onglians join Yeudis in local ratepayer strike

Following on from a tax strike by groups of Yeudis, the Onglian Civl Rights Association (OCRA) has orchestrated a series of local ratepayer strikes against the councils with the worst records for discriminating against Onglians (with council employment and housing provision being amongst the key issues). In New Englia, almost all citizens pay a tax on the property they live in, which is distributed to their local council. The ratepayer strike has been most successful in Valley County Council in Central Province, where this month's ratepayer revenue has fallen by 15%. Central government has had to provide Valley County Council with emergency funds, and it is being predicted other councils may need similar financial bail-outs if the ratepayer strike persists.

Finance Minister John Kyllyngworth has criticised councils for "not taking a robust enough approach to the non-payment of rates", urging that "these people need to be taken to court and forced to pay". Most council leaders share his impatience, although they are hoping the ratepayer strike will just fizzle out, fearing that if they take too provocative a stance, it may encourage the protest further. There are also fears of the courts become jammed up if large numbers of people are prosecuted.

Laighneach Mac Connmhaigh, the General Secretary of OCRA, has urged Onglians and sympathetic Inglians to join the ratepayer strike, and is calling for international support for the protest as well.

According to some sources, OCRA was reluctant to embark on an illegal protest for fear of a harsh government response, but felt under enormous pressure to be seen to be taking a strong stand, due to a concern that otherwise Onglians will be tempted to desert them and instead take the more radical path of joining the paramilitary Onglian Liberation Army (OLA).

Onglian civil rights lawyer assassinated by IVF

Agata Uí Banáin, one of the few high-profile female Onglian lawyers in New Englian, has been murdered after a gang of Inglian Volunteer Force (IVF) gunmen broke into her house and showered her with bullets. The IVF claimed responsibility for the attack within minutes, although nobody has been arrested in connection with the incident.

Agata Uí Banáin, a devout Aurorian Patriarchal and passionate activist in the Onglian Civil Rights Association (OCRA) built up a reputation defending Onglians in the courts. She faced an uphill struggle in many cases, as New Englia's courts are notoriously biased against Onglians, but she nevertheless chalked up some impressive achievements, and won the respect even of many leading Inglians in the court circuits.

OCRA issued a statement paying tribute to Agata Uí Banáin as "a fine woman who dedicated her life to social justice, and will be much missed by all whose lives were touched by her". They also called on the government of New Englia to "invite an independent, international inquiry" to investigate the murder, arguing that "we know from bitter experience that cases like this will never be properly investigated by the New Englian Constabulary and the New Englian judicial system".

Internal Affairs Minister Timothy Chetwoode questioned the claim that the murder was carried out by the IVF, saying "the IVF is a very small and insignificant organisation, so they are always claiming credit for murders they never actually committed". He also suggested Agata Uí Banáin "was a bit of an alcoholic and had a violent relationship with her husband".

YFF raids police armoury

This Evening underneath the cover of darkness a team of twenty operatives from The YFF conducted a raid on a small police armoury on the far side of New Indrala dressed in ski masses and black uniforms. After having taken out security personel the men proceeded to loot forty rifes and five crates of ammo before setting the building alight via petrol and flame. As the flames rose the operatives drove off.
