Ahmadi Liberation Party launches coup aimed at capital
January 4688

Images from Der Globus East Dovani bureau headquarters in Wad Mabelat

Wad Mabelat - Self-proclaimed Grand Mufti of Mina and spiritual leader of the Ahmadi Liberation Party Shujaa al-Sadek alongside his temporal leader of the ALP, Shafeeq al-Mansouri have announced via a communication that they have seized large swathes of the capital of Mina, Wad Mabelat after launching a late-night coup attempt with elements of the armed forces and their paramilitary force, the Ahmadi Revolutionary Guard Corps. In the early hours of the mourning, roughly 0453, the East Dovani bureau of Der Globus, a Dundorfian-based newspaper that operates out of several Dundorfian majority countries, reported rocket attacks and the sounds of automatic rifle fire near its headquarters in Wad Mabelat. The first images of the alleged coup attempt were reported by Kazulian, Hulstrian, Lourennian and Dorvish news reporters in Wad Mabelat and were later published by the United Press Association. At 0547, the coup leaders the now "Grand Mufti of Mina" Shujaa al-Sadek and his contemporary Shafeeq al-Mansouri, reported that they had "overthrown" President el-Rahaim and were in control of 75% of the capital's metropolitan districts.

Conflicting sources came when President el-Rahaim appeared on state television with several members of the Interior Ministry, the armed forces and leaders of his political party and stated that a "...failed coup attempt" had begun and heavy fighting was taking place in Wad Mabelat. The commander of the Republican Guard, General Fayyad Al-Mokhtar spoke briefly regarding the deployment of forces throughout Wad Mabelat and mobilization of "loyal elements" of the Minan Army. It was confirmed by the Spokesman for the Council of the Republic that several dozen members of the Council of the Republic had been killed, many of them tortured and murdered by loyalist and supporters of the Ahmadi Liberation Party. While the capital was the focal point of the fighting, outbreaks of fighting across the country were also reported. In a statement by the Regional Secretary of the Minan region of Majatran Socialist Ba'ath Party, Hamood el-Edris and General-Secretary of the Minan Communist Party Zaaid al-Sani, the two had "aligned" and had formed the General Military Council for Minan Revolutionaries, an umbrella paramilitary for Ba'athist and Communist to fight against the government and radical Ahmadism, which both oppose.

Reports are limited but it is expected that the Armed Forces of Mina will likely be split into several factions and polarized during this new period of civil war.

Government resigns, elections scheduled for next month
February, 4688

Wad Mabelat - A temporary ceasefire has been agreed to by the government and paramilitary groups and political parties in Mina. According to Minan state television, the government will resign en masse, including President el-Rahaim, and allow for "free and fair elections" to commence on 1 March, 4688 and conclude the following day after a tally of the votes. While internal political commentators are skeptical, almost all major components of the "failed" coup attempt have agreed to be involved. It is reported that the Ahmadi Liberation Party will run the now official Grand Mufti of Mina, Shujaa al-Sadek as their candidate for President while Shafeeq al-Mansouri would assume the role of Prime Minister if they secure a majority. Two other blocs have formed, the Ba'athist and the Communist have formed an alliance and have announced MCP General-Secretary Zaaid al-Sani as their candidate with Ba'athist Regional Secretary Hamood el-Edris as the forerunner for the Prime Minister spot. A "secular, non-extremist" coalition has formed between the Minan People's Movement, the Popular Democratic Party and the National Liberal Party with a unified candidate of Hayyan Al-Kinani from the Popular Democratic Party. It is likely that whatever the outcome of the election, the country will continue to be fractured and continue to be ripe for political and sectarian violence. The Dovani Liberation Front announced Mu'taz al-Sharif, the former Minister of Justice and who some consider an "outsider" in the party, to be their candidate for the Presidency.

The Ahmadi Liberation Party has run on a platform of implementing Ahmadi, namely Israist beliefs, the creation of an Ahmadist Republic, the outlawing of other religions and the development of the ability to spread the Ahmadist message throughout East Dovani. While the ALP has what many consider to be a radical agenda, it widely popular in the rural and mountainous areas of Mina, which are mostly located on the interior of the country and border areas of Mina. Political parties such as the Ba'athist and Communist are popular in the coastal areas and major cities, especially with support form the wider Majatran Socialist Ba'ath Party national organization. The Minan Communist Party has close links to other Dovani-based communist and socialist movements and is thus well funded and the alliance between the Ba'athist and Communist, which has long unofficially existed, have provided some of the more stable governments to Mina. The "Modern Coalition" which includes the Minan People's Movement, Popular Democratic Party and the National Liberal Party have promised to "reform" Mina alongside secular and modern lines, similar to movements done in Istapali which has largely paid off.

East Dovani countries such as Istapali, widely considered to be the most stable and prosperous of East Dovani nations, has welcomed elections and members from its own electoral commission are going to oversee the Minan elections. Countries such as Dorvik, Ostland, Trigunia, Indrala, Vanuku, Deltaria, Lourenne, Hulstria, Kafuristan, Badara are also likely to send electoral overseers and will likely have competing results due to competing influences and ideologies. The Istapalian government announced that in cooperation with several other countries in East Dovani, it had launched the East Dovani Development Bank and rumors have surfaced about an East Dovani Economic Community (EDEC) to cooperate on free trade and economic association. Rumors alongside the EDEC have indicated that the East Dovani region, including North Dovani, will attempt to unify behind a common currency. Regardless, the outcome of the election will have a lasting regional impact.

Ahmadi Liberation Party wins presidency, largest seat share in legislature
March, 4688

Wad Mabelat - Despite the hope surrounding the cease fire and the elections, there was tense political and sectarian violence around the March general elections in Mina. International observers called the election, at best, "flawed" but the observers were satisfied that the elections were conducted in a relatively free manner. The most important election, the Presidential election, was won by the Ahmadi Liberation Party and their candidate, Grand Mufti Shujaa al-Sadek who won nearly 43% of the total votes. The second place vote was the Dovani Liberation Front candidate of Mu'taz al-Sharif, the former Minister of Justice and the "outsider" of the Dovani Liberation Front, he won nearly 20% of the vote. While the election of an Ahmadist President will allow a certain degree of influence for the Ahmadist but overall, the Council of the Republic election can provide a bulwark against the Presidency. In the Minan general elections, the Ahmadi Liberation Party won 100 seats, making it the largest political party in the Council of the Republic. The second largest party was the Minan Communist Party who won 73 seats, the third largest being the Ba'athist party who won 53 seats, the Dovani Liberation Front won 36 seats, the combined bloc of the Minan People's Movement, the Popular Democratic Party and the National Liberal Party won the remaining 38 seats in the Council of the Republic.

It is likely that the Minan Communist Party, the Ba'athist and the Dovani Liberation Front will form a coalition government which will provide them 163 seats in the Council of the Republic and with support from the "Modern Coalition" can effectively block all legislation from the Ahmadi Liberation Front. Interestingly enough, one mechanic of the constitution permits the legislature to appoint a Prime Minister without the consent of the President if they have over half the legislature, which would be 151 members voting in favor. This was prohibited by the Dovani Liberation Front since they held an absolute majority. Minan Communist Party spokeswoman Zakiyya al-Barakat noted that the aggressive desire for social and cultural change had driven the Minan people to "crown" the Minan Communist Party as the second largest party and that the "...harmful, hateful rhetoric of the Ahmadi Liberation Party..." could not be allowed to continue. The electoral bloc of the Minan Communist Party and the Ba'athist will likely hold a majority of the seats in the Council of Ministers but will face considerable opposition from the Ahmadi Liberation Party.

Foreign observers have noted a sort of "...eerie calm has beset Mina..." and they are concerned that the Ahmadi Liberation Party will not accept the selection of a non-ALP candidate as Prime Minister.

Ahmadi Liberation Party rejects MCP candidate, ALP Chair named in the interim
April, 4688

Wad Mabelat - President Shujaa al-Sadek, the Grand Mufti of Mina rejected the Minan Communist Party candidate for Prime Minister, the parties General-Secretary Zaaid al-Sani. In a 200 to 100 vote, the coalition government which comprises every other party outside of the Ahmadi Liberation Party, approved the naming of al-Sani as Prime Minister. Constitutionally al-Sani is the Prime Minister however this has been unilaterally rejected the appointment and with the backing of the Republican Guard and the Ahmadi Revolutionary Guard Corps cordoned off the Prime Ministers residence and all government buildings, effectively baring the legitimate government from assuming power. In a speech before the Council of the Republic the de jure Prime Minister Zaaid al-Sani declared that the President, the Republican Guard and the Ahmadi Revolutionary Guard Corps had to comply with the order or else they would face "consequences". The Armed Forces of Mina, continuing to be polarized have split largely between those who support the President, the commander-in-chief, and those who support the constitutionally legitimate government of Mina. The Council of the Republic, in a split vote, passed a resolution giving the ALP and President al-Sadek one month to stand down and allow the legitimately elected coalition government to assume power or face an "...unprecedented removal procedure..."

While the President has rejected the MCP candidate, the President named Shafeeq al-Mansouri as the "interim Prime Minister" while the "constitutional crisis" is resolved "...via peaceful means." The entire Council of Ministers were ALP politicians, including several prominent religious figures within the Minan Israist circles. The resolution passed by the Council of the Republic dismisses the appointed Prime Minister and his government as "illegitimate" and "constitutionally illegal." International observers and domestic political commentators are worried that Mina will slip into a violent conflict state again after several years of stability.

MCP and Ba'athist capture Prime Minister residence
June, 4688

Debris on fire outside of the Presidential Palace's secure area following attack

Wad Mabelat - The General Military Council of Minan Revolutionaries, the combined paramilitary forces of the Minan Communist Party and the Minan region of the Majatran Socialist Ba'ath Party launched an attack to break the hold that the Republican Guard and the Ahmadi Revolutionary Guard Corp have on government buildings, namely the Prime Ministers residence. The Prime Ministers residence would provide the legitimate government with the ability to communicate easier with citizens across the country, allow them to conduct diplomatic affairs as well as provide some limited command and control over loyal elements of the armed forces. The attack, which started in the early morning hours of June 11, 4688 was mostly of small arms, rocket propelled grenades as well as technical vehicles and some apcs/ifvs that the paramilitary forces had captured or been supplied. By the evening of June 11, the siege has broken through and several dozen RG and ARGC had been killed as well as several dozen GMCMR soldiers. Minan Communist Party General-Secretary Zaaid al-Sani took his seat within the Prime Minister's residence and announced to Mina and the world, that he had secured his place legally.

A series of weak counter-attacks were attempted by the RG and the ARGC but were repelled. Loyalist elements of the Armed Forces of Mina arrived with tanks, armor personnel carriers and infantry fighting vehicles including a single Trigunian-built Mi-24 helicopter to provide air support. President al-Sadek called the attack on the "government of Mina" a "...cowardly, terrorist-like act." He promise vengeance and revenge. According to the Minister of the Interior, the "interim Prime Minister" Shafeeq al-Mansouri had fled but Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense Lubaid Benzakour had been captured and had been handed over to the Ministry of Justice and Prisons for secure holding at Omdurhir Prison. It is likely that the violence will continue as promised by President al-Sadek. Across the remainder of the country Ahmadi Revolutionary Guard Corp, Republican Guard and Communist and Ba'athist militias clashed in skirmishes to full fledged battles.

The Republican National Congress takes Mina by storm

As the votes have now been counted and been announced it turns out that the Republican National Congress (RNC/MWJ) - which formed two months ago - have taken the whole country by storm and received and estimated 8,848,757 votes, that being 39%. The RNC got 117 seats out of 300 in the national legislature. But the most astonishing victory was by Azim Hamid, the Chairman of the Republican National Congress, who was elected President of the Republic with 67% of the vote, that being an estimated 15,278,854 votes. The now President-Elect Hamid and his party campaigned on the platform of Pan-Dovanism, social democracy and nationalism, they promised to open the country up for trade with other Dovani nations. The strongest message of theirs was the promise to make Mina live up to her name (Al-Mina, meaning The Port), by becoming the main trading center of the Sea of Carina.

President-Elect Hamid is currently talking to the leaders of the different parties in the national legislature. The most likely government partners would be the Popular Democratic Party and the Minan's People's Movement, the former holding mostly the same social-democratic values as the RNC, while the latter shares the same nationalism. The President-Elect has not commented on who he will appoint as his Prime Minister but that the process of forming a government will be quick to handle efficiency.

'Akhbar al-Jumhuria - Republic News
President Hamid appoints new Prime Minister

With Azim Hamid newly inaugurated, he appointed - as in Minan custom - at the same ceremony the new Prime Minister, Khalid Samad, who is a prominent politician formerly belonging to the Ahmadi Liberation Party but became non-partisan in 4775 and just recently joined the Republican National Congress. In the new cabinet, the President formed with the Popular Democratic Party and Minan's People's Movement, both of whom received two ministries each, the former occupying the Ministry of Religious and Ethnic Affairs and the Ministry of Social Welfare and Public Health, while the latter occupies the Ministry of Education, Sports and Youth Affairs and the Ministry of Information and Communication.

During his inauguration speech, the President reaffirmed the nation that Mina would open up to the world, especially to Dovani and its neighboring countries. He stated that his first step in foreign affairs would be to contact the Zhairi Republic of Medina to establish cooperation through diplomacy and trade. The President also revealed his plans for an ambitious renovation of the harbor in Wad Mabelat (the capital city) to a flourishing trading port of the Sea of Carina. This project has been met with praise from the public, but economical analysts are skeptical that the funding for such a project could be achieved. But how President Azim Hamid's term will turn out is up for debates already.

Government of Mina forms agreement with the multinational 3M

and the 3M representative Gáspár Dénes (middle).

Wad Mabelat - During the whole recent week, the Ministries of Social Welfare and Public Health, Finance and Economy, and Foreign Affairs and International Trade has sat in negotiations with the large multinational corporation More Medicament Manufacture, commonly known as 3M. It appears now that the negotiations and meetings have stated to bear fruit, as the recent press conference this afternoon held by the Ministers of the mentioned ministries have expressed their optimistic news of beginning to cooperate with the corporation. In the negotiations, the 3M is to provide for the 16 Minan states 48 pharmacies with three in each state until December 4782. The agreement continues with expanding up to five pharmacies in each state until June 4783. The plan is to build and operate 10 pharmacies with full medical equipments and medicines for the local populations up to January 4787. The government of Mina has promised to help with the construction as much as possible. Prime Minister Khalid Samad has openly endorsed 3M as a "international tool used as a means to provide underdeveloped nations and peoples a sense of national sovereignty and self-determination", not a full explanation has been given to what the Prime Minister means, but one can be sure that he probably views 3M as a force of good that all Terra's underdeveloped nations should use. In the agreement it is stated that the profit 3M receives from its investments in Mina is to be used by the discretion of the corporation to continue helping different people around Terra.

The Minister of Finance and Economy el-Rehmann said this during the final minutes of the press conference:
I would like to give my absolute gratitude to the More Medicament Manufacture and their help in developing the Minan economy and assuring that our people's health is maintained. Thank you Gáspár Dénes and bless you.

The 3M representative responded to Minister el-Rehmann:
Well I would like to thank Minister el-Rehmann, Minister al-Yacoub and Minister al-Azam for their swift negotiations. The fact is that 3M always love to help and for us the people's health is the number one priority. Thank you.

The Minan opposition has raised a very low and careful sarcastic criticism, to the government. Asking what happened to the idea of "Dovani for Dovanis". A issue which was campaigned on by the current President of Mina, which gave him a landslide victory. The government press secretary gave a quick response stating that "for an undeveloped nation like ours, depending on foreign means is necessary in order to become self-sufficient". An answer which has been generally accepted by the Minan population.
