General Assembly Session IX (4234-4249)

The point brought forward by the Mr Amari, is a typically example of a misuse of the assembly. This assembly does have no right to correct decisions made by any democratically elected parliament in this world. This assembly should not be misused by those who fail to gather majority support among their countryman to pass laws in an orderly fashion.

Abdul Amari, Delegate Leader of the United Democratic Communist Party of Badara, released the following statement to the Assembly,

''The UDCP is interested as to what the Assembly is for then. If the Assembly's role isn't to uphold democracy and human rights in the countries of this world, then what is the point of the Assembly in the first place? Here in Badara we have a clear cut case of the governing party using its power to eliminate opposition and to maintain its rule indefinitely, and we, the very opposition who is actively being arrested and suppressed, are being told we are in the wrong because we don't have a majority of the seats in the house. The same argument put forward by Beiteynu's representative could be given to support any action carried out by a ruling party, including war crimes, slavery and genocide. An election carried out when only one party is allowed to exist is no true election.

Cynthia Amphion, Selucian Ambassador, finally raises her voice
What have we become? What has this assembly become? Only a group of people that argue, with the argument of the "you have done this worse than me", but without accomplishing anything to solve all that goes wrong in Terra. It should embarrass us. Here in this assembly we are sat the people who, supposedly, represent all those nations of this planet that believe in democracy, and in the coexistence of our race. But this is only on paper. In practice, many of the nations represented here still maintain regimes that can be described as anything but democratic, and are with us acting as one of us. As if some people were worth more than others for the simple fact of being born in one place or another. It seems that it will never enter our minds that the differences between one and the other, beyond the physical, exist only because we create them in our mind. I will always wonder what it is that leads one person to believe to be above the others and to have the right to make them servants or slaves, with the impassive sight of this camera. The latest news, brought by the communist party of Badara, and the respective response it has received, does nothing more than reaffirm me in my ideas and my position. How can anyone even say that a political party, whatever ideology may be, forbids something because it represents a threat to their own interests - not to those of their nation, what supposedly is the main function of a political party-and is describe the Government as "democratically elected". Of course, the choice was either that or that, there is no more. They were going to win, no matter if there would be a lot, little or no participation. And when a political rival appears on the horizon, they are censored and banned, so citizens can not choose another political option.

Gentlemen, this is very sad. That someone has to say what should be obvious in the eyes of all humanity shows everything we still have left to learn and overcome. But it also shows, as so does the history, that there will always be people who believe to be above others for reasons of race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation ... and there lies precisely what should be one of the main objectives of this assembly, which has been diluted with the passing of the years: to make understand to all the nations of Terra that we have to collaborate together, bringing together different opinions to find the best solution, but respecting all those who do not share our same ideas-as long as, in turn, they show respect for others, because we must remember that hatred is not an opinion. [she says that slowly, word by word]

Having said that, Selucia wishes to show its interest in the attempt to hold new elections in Badara in order to allow its citizens to decide whether they prefer the current government or choose a new party to guide them. Thank you very much, ladies and gentlemen of this camera.

She sits down, with a serious face and looking at her papers.

Hatred is of course an opinion, because the choice whether something is hatred or not is in itself discriminating and might be misused to censor people.
Coming back to the Badaran example: The bill which some seem to critizise is a bill which outlaws no party at all nor any point of view. It solely forbids supporting a party which aims to erect an undemocratic system of government itself, namely communism. Now, looking at the statement about hatred: What else is communism then the hatred of people who own anything?

In Badara there is also no evidence, that at the time of the last election there, which resulted in an absolute victory for the ruling party, there was any initmidation whatsoever. The people could have founded a new party. Therefore of course the government is democratically elected and the world community does have no right to put pressure on a democratically elected government. In this specific case there is no genocide, no violence or anything. Please stick to the topic.

Finally, we have far more important topics to talk about: just think of the recent statements by the government of Istalia.

Abdul Amari, Delegate Leader of the United Democratic Communist Party of Badara, released the following statement to the Assembly,

''It is interesting that the Beiteynu representative makes such an interesting destinction between banning a party and banning support for a party's main ideology; as if there is any real difference between them. A Party without supporters is no party. As for the representatives incredible strawman of communism we can only say that the representative has every right to be ignorant, but not to exert that ignorance onto world politics. We hope the representative apologises to the people of Beiteynu for the embarassment that they have been to such a great people.
Obviously this Assembly does not have the capacity to defend democracy throughout the world, and the UDCP must look to other methods in order to defend our nation from fascism and dictatorship.

Adriano Testanera, Istalian Ambassador:

The new Istalian President, Ms Lavinia Maggi, charged me to communicate to the World Congress that she has retired the proposal made by the former President Tajani about the Air-Naval blackade against Vorona.
Said that, we praise the words of the Selucian Ambassador, which seems to have described very well the current situation of this Organization. On the paper always seems work and also if the new administration critics the previous guideline to face the Voronan situation, we confirme the feeling about the World Congress. What represents a Resolution in favor of the human rights and the democracy and which condamns those who attempt to supprime them, if all this finally depends and is conditioned by the passport of the involved people or by the will of the majority of the involved nation, will of majority which we remember you that it is not democracy?
The Baiteynese "machine" expressed a good point: this organization cannot do nothing if a national parliament votes in favor of whatever it want, even if it's a bill which authorizes the persecution and the extermination of a ethnicity or of militants or supporters of this or that ideology. The National Sovereignty.

Before to conclude, we would express our closeness to the UDCP in its struggle to defend its freedom to express its political visions and positions.

Now excuse me but I have to return in Romula to confere with the President Maggi.

Have a good day

Thank you for summarizing your communist ideology in one sentence. As to the point made by the Istalian rep.: There was always the exact definition of a democratically (!) elected government. And a government which was elected democratically does have every right to exercise its politcal powers as it wants. What will happen if, e.g. the majority of security council members were dictatorships? Then suddenly they would be able to sanction democracies.

Message from the Istalian Delegation:

Still again from Beiteynu comes a fact: this Organization despite the goals which expressed to persue, have no mechanisms and tools to protect itself and this introduce us to the response for Beiteynu: a democracy is even more then an election and, as said, the will of the majority. Democracies provide rules which limit the power of the Governments and protect the minorities (electoral as well as ethincal or religious, ecc...). This is Democracy, not "do whetever I want because I gained the election".

If we have arrived to debate on what is a democracy at this point... This increase even more our concerns on the authority and the role of this Organization, which seems operates in helping, inderictly of course,
the ones which it condamned.

"Democracies provide rules which limit the power of the Governments and protect the minorities..."
This is precisly the reason why this world congress and its institutions do have no right to pressure nations into its artificial goals and believes, even if the majority of nations might agree on them. And now to finalize the solution: Stop meddling into the affairs of sovereign states then this organization might be able to work.

I"m interested to see what the Beiteynu representative expects us to do; just except our illegality and resign from politics? Or let ourselves be arrested, tortured and executed as outlaws? We asked for your help and we recieved nothing but ignorance and inaction. If you won't intervene on our behalf, we have no other option than to try other methods. How this has anything to do with our communist ideology is beyond me, especially when you regard communism as a dictatorial ideology. How can communism be both for and against dictatorships? I believe you may be confused as well as uneducated.
We thank Istalia and Selucia for their support for our cause. I must return now to Badara to defend my people from arrest.
