Oscar Machado, Kalistani Ambassador to the Security Council, responds to the comments made by his New Endralonian/Kizenian counterpart:
First, I want to make clear that neither Kalistan nor the Security Council in any way permits, endorses or supports the rhetoric or potential action from the Trigunian Empire. While Kalistan and Trigunia are historical allies and we retain a strong affinity, we must condemn them when they are in the wrong. Like in any friendship, it is important that we do not turn a blind eye to our friend's flaws instead we must encourage them to be better people. During her Presidency, Sophia Conti spoke with her counterparts in Trigunia and made clear that a Trigunian presence in the mission would not be necessary, especially given that they have recently emerged from a conflict with Deltaria.
Furthermore, we agree that a peaceful, diplomatic solution is ideal. The proposed mission is not an invasion. It is a humanitarian mission. However, having spoken with the government of Saridan, specifically the Council of Elders, it is the sense of Kalistan (and of Istalia, Hawu Mumenhes, Cobura, Talmoria and Hutori) that a military accompaniment would drastically reduce the chance of an attack, by the Saridanese armed forces, against the humanitarian vessels. In that sense, the accompaniment can be accurately described as a 'deterrent'. With that said, the suggestion that we are using 'might', by the gentleman from New Endralon/Kizenia, is inaccurate to say the least.
Next, the gentleman begins his rant against drugs. How many times must we have the same debate? To begin with, he claims we are 'purpesfully export[ing] illegal substances, drugs, to nations where it is illegal', which is thoughtless at best and ignorant at worst. Throughout his tirade the gentleman conflates two completely different things, drugs and illegal substances. He declares a 'war on drugs'! Does that war include tobacco? Does it include alcohol? What about penicillin? Does his war include caffeine?
Kalistan could decree tomorrow that it will stop exporting drugs but what would be the material consequences of this? Initially, thousands would die as they lose access to substances which they are dependent on. Later, even more would suffer as they are forced into the black market and required to use contaminated needles or sub-par substances. The repercussions would be catastrophic. If you want tangible and beneficial ways to help your children, the first thing to do is to stop telling them that they are criminals!
