Lewis Wright, Conservative Party of Baltusia
I would like to take the opportunity to abjectly apologise for previous institutions in my party making aliases with Beitenyu. As I previously said, it is truly regrettable.

Now we must move on and may I refer you to this piece of legislation proposed by my party to Baltusian Congress: http://classic.particracy.net/viewbill. ... startvote=

My partywascomplicit in and supported "crimes against mankind", but constantly sitting there pointing fingers at what our party did years ago means nothing for the future of Baltusia. We are a new institution and will vow to give Baltusia a good voice on the international stage and hope to work collaboratively with everyone.

Lets move on together. Baltusia is finished with Beitenyu and their racist, genocidal policy. Lets move on.

Otto Vanderijk Blick, Patriotic Party of Baltusia:

Ambassador Montreal,

May I also suggest that to point the finger at Baltusia is proving divisive and not attending to the matter at hand - namely sanctioning Beiteynu for its heinous segregation policies. As our Security Council representative I would expect your support for our decision - not remonstrations for decisions made by Baltusian parties, both left and right, in the past.

Our neighbouring nations have a colourful shared history but our party has been one of the strongest advocates for closer ties with Kalistan over the last few decades – to the point where we persuaded our nation to drop its own Security Council campaign to back yours. Whilst I understand this should not be a precursor for unadulterated support, I hope it sets into context that we are very much "on your side" in this matter and are taking steps to endorse the sanctions set out by the World Congress and the Security Council.

Giovanni Paolo Fulgi, Ambassador to the World Congress of the Repubblica Istaliana

the Istalian Delegation would express its satisfaction to see more and more nations open the eyes and recognize the hateful and inhuman regime installed in Beiteynu.
Personally I think it's even more satisfying to see other change their opinions and finilly realize the horror and the inhuman events in act and I think we should recognize the courage to change, the courage to admit the existence of these horrors even if this means putting an end to many years of diplomatic and trade relations with Beiteynu.

Thank you

Eleanora Montreal, Kalistani Ambassador to the Security Council responds to the discussion thus far:
Words are rather meaningless. A retroactive apology does nothing to bring back those who you endorsed the murder of. It is better that Baltusia no longer supports the regime in Beiteynu but it is one hundred years late. Kalistan will not allow any nation, not even a close partner, to be pardoned for their role in crimes against humanity.

Otto Vanderijk Blick, Head Baltusian Representative to the General Assembly:

Ambassador Montreal,

When accusing us of crimes against humanity and murder, I think you are confusing ignorance - which we are surely guilty of - with a pre-meditated and informed policy of endorsing Beiteynu's inhumane actions.

Like the vast majority of nations on Terra we were not aware of these attrocities. How could we have known? We are hardly in a position to send a task force there and demand to look around unilaterally.

This is why we rely on the World Congress and the Security Council, which equips us with the international eyes and ears to see and hear what is happening. But, of course, this fine institution has only been in operation for a few years. Before that we could only peer through the fog of diplomacy and international relations and hope to gauge a clear view.

The Security Council's work in revealing what is happening in Beiteynu certainly opened our eyes but prior to this they were only shut because we did not know what was taking place - rather than we were turning a blind eye. I hope you, and all members of the assembly, can see the difference.

Regardless, we have apologised for our naive complicity and hope to move on with this Assembly's blessing. Furthermore, I re-iterate: we welcome the Security Council's decision and our nation will do everything in its power to support it and we call on other governments to support it too.

Rutania is expected to enforce sanctions against Beiteynu, but will not intervene. The Rutanian Foreign Secretary has publicly announced his support of the Leftists

Eleanora Montreal, Kalistani Ambassador to the Security Council responds to the discussion thus far:
I know I have said it already but clearly it has not been understood: ignorance is not an excuse. When deciding who to endorse and support, it is the responsibility of a nation to at least do some research into the conditions and attitudes of the nation they are throwing their weight behind. What is the difference, after all, between knowingly supporting atrocities and unknowingly supporting them? Whether the intention is there or not, the same number of people are murdered and the same number of lives destroyed. I understand that you want to move past this but it would be unfair for the World Congress not to hold Baltusia accountable for their actions in some way. Otherwise, we have no recourse to criticise other nations in future when they plead ignorance.

Otto Vanderijk Blick, Head Baltusian Representative to the General Assembly:

Assembly Members,

I believe our nation has been extremely contrite in this matter. Both Foreign Minister Wright and myself, as Baltusia's Chief Representative to the General Assembly, have apologised for our country's "unknowing support" of this regime's practices. I have set out our mitigation for this behaviour and believe that any wise judge of the facts would surely take it into account when considering a ruling on sanctioning us. In any court, in any land, pre-meditated action and ignorant complicity are not one and the same thing.

But surely, now, we must move on, and to that end I would like to point out the measures we are taking as a nation. We have now voted to remove our support for Beiteynu and will look to back another candidate for Security Seat B. We have also unilaterally called on Beiteynu to abolish its Final Solution Act and believe we are making progress on this matter.

Furthermore, our president has taken measures to ensure we play a more active role in the World Congress - and we aim to be an advocate for its work around Terra and will take our duties on behalf of this organisation extremely seriously.

Court Minister Tutak Esfahani of the Glorious Shahdom of Aldegar rises to address the General Assembly:
Given that the so-called 'government' of Baltusia has shown itself to be completely inadequate- supporting regimes which are totally repugnant- on behalf of His Most High Majesty Shahnam I, I would like the Security Council to pass a resolution confirming that he is the legitimate and lawful King of Baltusia and that the individual claiming to be President of that nation is in fact an imposter.

Baron Dmitriy Naryshkin, Trigunian ambassador to the World Congress, addresses the General Assembly.
The Court Minister of Aldegar, Tutak Esfahani, is demanding that the World Congress force the Baltusians to make their Shah also the King of Baltusia. First of all, the World Congress cannot force any nation to amend policy. They may merely encourage and demand a change in their policies. Furthermore, forcing a nation to adjust the way their nation is run can only be proposed by an ignorant and selfish person. It is limiting even the basic sovereignty of a state. Let us hope that the Aldegarian Shah is not ignorant and selfish, and that the statement on behalf of him is simply what his government, and not him personally, view as correct. Otherwise, the Shah is disgracing the name of monarch. Thank you.
