Several candidate-nations are already moving in that direction. My position is that an official debate platform under the auspices of moderation would disrupt various countries' SC strategies, for instance by potentially drawing more foreign affairs-averse nations off the sidelines which would significantly change the current voter turnout situation.

I do not see this as a bad thing, and I say that as a nation which is currently enjoying a sizable lead for its seat. In fact, I would encourage higher voter turnout, and the promotion of foreign affairs RP that the Security Council mechanic allows us to enjoy. Bring on the debates!

A formal Moderation-organised debate (or set of debates) wasn't what I had specifically in mind, but its interesting if the debate idea is being talked about - maybe something will develop.

I like the idea of debates. The only issue might be nations where there are many parties. Kalistan only has two at the moment and me and Doc agree on most things but it might be a concern where there is division within a country.

Instead of having one participant representing each nation, perhaps it would be an idea to have debates where any interested player can role-play a distinguished individual (eg. politician, diplomat, academic, journalist/commentator...), and then have them on a panel or something. That way you'd get the maximum number of interested players involved.

I've got a friend from university to join in Mikuni-Hulstria and he's pretty keen to do some aggressive military RP (and frankly, he will probably be better at that side of Role Play than I ever have been, considering my lack of number crunching skills and vague understanding of military hardware). So, I figured maybe we could work out a way to link that up with all this Security Council election stuff. As you might have noticed, we've been pretty quiet in Mikuni-Hulstria for a while so I reckon perhaps we could suddenly start acting out as a Rogue State that opposes the new global institutions, present a sort of "Mad Dog" threat for the new security council to deal with. Perhaps have it become a key issue of the campaign, like ISIS is for the current US election, with candidates trying to out posture each other on the Mikuni-Hulstrian menace.

What does the RP team make of that? Also all you other scrubs?
