Honourable dignitaries from throughout the international community,
I address you this morning as the representative of a small island nation whose people refuse to die in ignorance and misery any longer. After centuries of anarcho-capitalism, colonialism and segregation, the diverse peoples of Orono have come together to cast off these demons and win a new future for their children.
Our nation was built on the sacred soil of the Mātou and Oroni peoples, with the labour of Keobi, Kintoto and Asli slaves, directed at times by Deltarian colonists and contributed to by numerous refugee and settler groups, yet none are the richer for it. Our corner of Terra, long-ignored and dejected, has remained throughout history one of the poorest regions in the world.
The
Orono Truth and Reconciliation Commission, as we speak, is holding forums across the island and with the contributions of scholars from around the world, to compile this history in a cohesive way for the first time ever. I hope that the Commission will be received well by our friends around the world, at least for the historic undertaking for which it is.
But today, I wish to speak of the extraordinary May 4660 Revolution.
Throughout our history, reactionaries, "monarchs," and colonial forces sought to impose a national government on the people, and each time the people have rejected it. These pretender governments have humiliated the people by inflicting a thousand and one indignities upon them, from racial apartheid to slavery.
The triumph of the May 4660 Revolution is that instead, in the spirit of self-determination and equality, the people have begun to build a new unitary government from the ground up. From local democratic cooperatives born out of centuries of anarchism, as well as the traditional tribal governments who have remained resilient despite the pressures of colonization, we have aligned our common objectives and built the foundation of our new country. We have imbued these preexisting entities with greater responsibility through the May 4660 revolutionary action.
The primary goal of our revolution is to raise the station of the people from misery to poverty with dignity. If we can at least achieve this, we will have accomplished more than any other unitary government in the history of Orono. It is with the courage of our hands and the faith of our hearts that we shall get there, though the road is a very long one. We must ensure that all Oronans can eat three meals a day, that no child is uneducated, that no person is illiterate.
To this end, we must speak to the billions of dollars our island has received over the centuries. Aid helps only to meet the needs of basic survival of the people. Beyond this, aid serves to continue developing unproductive sectors, further disorganizing our countryside, and accelerating the destruction of our ecology. From this point on, the people of Orono shall only encourage aid which assists them in doing away with aid. We shall only ratify trade agreements which further our development. We seek to build a new relationship with members of the international community predicated on solidarity, peace, friendship and diplomacy.
I hope, fellow dignitaries, that you will get to know these realities by coming to visit Orono. I invite you in the spirit of solidarity and comradeship, to experience the hospitality of a people who have nothing to spare and yet everything to give.
Thank you all.
Orono together, we shall win!
