Announcement: Changes to inactivation rules

Postby jamescfm » Mon Aug 31, 2020 6:51 pm

From the beginning of 1 September 2020 (server time), Moderation will be extending the period of time during which a player is able to log in to the game before being inactivated. At the moment players who do not log in to game for three days (72 hours) have their accounts routinely inactivated, from tomorrow this will be extended to four days (96 hours). In some respects it is possible that this change will have a minimal impact but we have decided to relax the rules slightly for a couple of reasons.

In the recent past players were only expected to log in to the game every four days (with some notable exceptions) however this was tightened to three days in the past few years. Part of the motivation for the change was that we had a significant number of active countries that were in high demand among players, as well as a relatively high overall player base. In the past eighteen months or so the number of active players has reduced and there are fewer countries that consistently operate with a high number of players (6-10).

At the same time we have observed a trend of some (active) players semi-regularly missing the three day deadline by only a couple of hours. The process of reactivating an account after being inactivated can be frustrating and with player numbers lower than in the past we want to maximise the opportunity for these players to remain a part of the game and the role-play community. In a situation where we have a significant number of empty countries too, it does not appear that it would be too detrimental to extend the deadline by an extra day.

With that said we do recognise that the change will be frustrating to some players. If you are highly active (logging in multiple times daily) and you play in a country with players who are relatively inactive (perhaps only logging in every 3-4 days) then you may believe that the change is going to restict your ability to role-play. Hopefully the various provisions in the rules (particularly the clauses on "party sitting" and "dodging inactivation") will be able to combat these potential issues, however we remain open to feedback from players about the impacts.

For the moment we have not decided whether this will be a long-term change or a temporary measure and much will depend on the experience of players. With that in mind if you have thoughts about the issue then please share with us wherever you feel comfortable doing so. Below are the changes to the Game Rules to reflect the new rules, please do let us know if you have concerns or queries.

Section 5 - Moderation Procedures and Administration
1. Users will have their party routinely in-activated if they have not logged in for 4 days;

2. Moderation reserves the right to inactivate players for breaches of the Particracy Game Rules or behavior that runs contrary to warnings or other sanctions that Moderation has provided (this includes issues related to the forums or the official Discord);

3. Users can request on-time or early inactivations of other parties HERE for the following reasons:
-- 3a. They have not logged in for 2 days (48 hours) and have not updated their party description or their party name or their party color or have not voted on any bills currently active for voting;
-- 3b. They are "Party Sitting" which means that they log on, do not vote on bills in order to avoid being activated by automatic sweeps or by reporting, inactivation will only happen when this behavior has been on-going for 4 or more days;
-- 3c. Similar to "Party Sitting" a player will be inactivated when logging in every 4 days and voting this is known as "Dodging inactivation";
-- 3d. Moderation reserves the right to inactivate players who are breaking the rules, contribute negatively to the gameplay of others, present a block to RP without reasonable objection or for any other reasonable cause.
