December 1, 4901Vascania's Noura Kathar, winner of FOMAT XIV performs her winning entry "Manda Manda" late in the ContestSulari Colosseum was packed with music fans for the 14th Edition of the International Festival of Musical Arts of Terra. Ultimately 12 bands performed songs at FOMAT XIV, with Endralon continuing its boycott of FOMAT due to cultural requirements and Likatonia's late disqualification due to inability to meet these same requirements. But the contest went off, for the most part, without any other hitches.
Attending the concert were contingents of many of the nations who were participating in the show, but not even every nation sent contingents to support their bands in the show. This noticeable absence of most nations in the audience was a double edged sword, with some bands complaining of lack of fan support, but the opening of large blocks of reserved tickets for Kalistani fans. Ultimately the Kalistani crowd vastly outnumbered all other nation's fanbase at the show, and uncharacteristically, Kalistani fans were more supportive of foreign nation's bands than the people of other nations were.
Ultimately, when the results were handed in, there were a number of surprises. The Kalistani Panel's opinions were frustrated time and time again, by the seemingly noisy results produced by a tiny sample of voters, with most of the Kalistani fans present opting not to vote given that the Republic did not have an act in the show. As a result of a small segment of the voting crowd's vote dramatically outweighing the judges' opinion, the results of the show different dramatically from the preferences of the Judges. FOMAT Committee chair and Show MC Dave Bennots smiled at the strange results and said "Yeah, I don't think we will be doing that anymore" if Kalistan ever hosts the Contest again.
Kalistan, never shy about advertising Kalistani products, also made sure the audience knew about KNF Steel, even declaring Sulari "The Steel Capital of the World" from the stage. During the show several commercials explaining the uses and benefits of KNF steel played during breaks, and the Host even talked about KNF Steel from the stage, much to the chagrin of many of the foreign music fans. "Well, Yingdala didn't bother to show up," said Bennots, "so we decided to take advantage of their absence and refusal to counterprogram."
Ultimately, the results came out as follows:
Results show wide disagreement between voters, whose votes were weighted at 70 percent of the final score, and Kalistani scoring sources, which were weighted at 30% overall. The Winner of the Contest was Vascania's Noura Kathar, with "Manda Manda", which means that FOMAT XV will be held in Vascania. Kalistan looks forward to travelling to Vascania to compete, and is currently beginning to consider candidates for the show.
While Kalistan was happy to host the Contest for a third time, and will continue to compete to win, the FOMAT Committee in Kalistan has hinted that it is unlikely that Kalistan will be hosting the Festival in the near future, in the event they ever win again. "We've got stuff to work on at home," admitted Bennots, "And while we put on our normally excellent program, for FOMAT XIV, there appears to be waning interest in the contest among other nations of the world, and winning the contest is beginning to be more work than it really is worth. If there is prestige left in winning the Contest, we would rather have other nations also have a chance to gain that honor and prestige as well, and shoulder some of the responsibility for organizing the Festival, while we focus on our building our domestic music scene for a while."
