Apostolic Union of Nordland of the Ancient Bishopal Churches

The Apostolic Union of Nordland of the Ancient Bishopal Churches is one of two major subcurrents within the wider Bishopal Communion, in full communion with the Luthorian Communion. Unlike the members of the Luthorian Communion, which derive from the High Church branches of the Luthoran Abjuration and arose from colonial branches of the 21st-century Holy Luthori Church, the Union of Nordland is older, arising from a conflict of investiture of a Holy Apostolic Hosian Church Bishop in contravention of the Aurorian Hierarchy, leading to their abjuration of Archipatriarchal infallibility. This conflict was related to Juanezitism (= Jansenism), a radical predestination-based reading of the writing of the Church Fathers that the Caillean Bishop was accused of.

Today, the Union of Nordland unites a number of Bishopal Churches who first and foremost consider themselves "Ecumencial but not Patriarchal". They are under the spiritual guidance of the Metropolitan Archbishop of Nordland, who is the primus inter pares of the Communion. Their ecclesiology and theology are typified as Septenterrine, after the Selucian name of the Diocese. This gives them a High Church liturgical outlook, faithfully celebrating the Apostolic liturgy of Holy Revelation weekly, coupled with a much more progressive theological and social outlook.

Archbishop Jorge calls for Women's Vocation to the Priesthood

Jorge Amicresta, the Metropolitan Archbishop of Nordland and Primate of the Union of Nordland

Nordland, Egelion - the Primate of the Union of Nordland of the Ancient Bishopal Churches, Archbishop Jorge Amicresta of Nordland, has convened a synod of Bishops in the Egelian Ancient Bishopal Church to consider whether women can be Vocated to the Priesthood. Given the increasingly progressive signature of Septentrine theology in recent centuries (their clergy haven't been required to be celibate, for instance for over 200 years), the Synod is widely regarded as a foregone conclusion in favour of the Archbishop's stance that women should be Vocated.

In his opening homily, the Primate called the whole matter a "slightly bewildering arcane debate", noting that since Apostolic times, the question had in fact been reduced to the question of whether the Spirit's manhood was essential to His being and whether He called only men to serve in on purpose. The Archbishop himself explained in his homily: "To us, the main thing about the Incarnation of the Spirit is not Our Lord's manhood but His humanity - and if this is so, if we are all equal in Gods eyes, as men and women we were created, then why shouldn't our sisters in Hosios be able to serve in His stead to Revelate Him to us and to offer to God the Most Holy Sacrifice?"

Observers note that a recent shortage of priests in the small Church may have something to do with the problem, although Archbishop Jorge is widely known to be a theological progressive who, since his time in Aurorian Patriarchal seminary before his reception into the Bishopal Church, has written glowingly of various progressive causes at odds not only with Auroria but also with more progressive Ville-des-Saints. The Archbishop of Midmont, the Aurorian Primate of Egelion, immediately reaffirmed that "there can be no question of women being Vocated validly to any of the three Vocations, diaconal, presbyteral or bishopal."

(OOC: I'm assuming the Bishopals are a bit behind on women's ordination for the sake of the RP. In principle I'm assuming the Septentrine Bishopals will all fall in line, whereas the Luthori Communion will, as the Anglicans have, more trouble with it.)

Bishopal Church of Egelion vocates first female priest; other Septentrine churches expected to follow suit
Feast of Sts. Michael and Thomas, 4211

Archbishop Jorge ceded to Madre Helena, the first woman in the Egelian Bishopal Church to celebrate the Holy Revelation

Cathedral of St. Erico, Nordland, Egelion - In what is considered a milestone for the Bishopal Communion and the Hosian faith worldwide, Archbishop Jorge Amicresta of Nordland, the Primate of the Union of Nordland of Ancient Bishopal Churches, administered Holy Vocation to the Priesthood to a woman for the very first time since the Church's Synod had decided to allow Women's Vocation. Up until then, only the diaconate was considered open to women, based on scriptural evidence in the Acts of the Hosioi suggesting the existence of female deacons. The vocand, Madre Helena Riviera, previously a deacon attached to the Cathedral Church of St. Erico, the Archbishop's seat, celebrated Holy Revelation immediately afterwards.

Though the move was received with positive reactions ranging from open praise to mere personal congratulation of the vocate within the Septentrine Communion, which is known for combining a more progressive theological outlook with a traditional liturgy within its national churches, it is bound to be controversial, not least with the sister Luthorian Communion, where the theological outlook is more diverse. Archbishop Jorge spoke of a "milestone" in his address congratulating the new priest; the Primate of the Kalistani Bishopal Church announced in response, as more of his colleagues did, that they would convene a synod to consider priestly Vocation for women in their national churches. Nevertheless, though the Archbishop of Oalapo, primate of the Luthorian Communion, appeared receptive to the concept, other Luthorian bishops have given more icy responses, with the Primate of Alduria going on the record to state: "the concept of women's Vocation has not yet been established as fully scriptural." In similar vein, the Aurorian Patriarchal Church in Egelion immediately dismissed the notion.
